We have heard about herbal medicine, holistic medicine, aromatherapy and many others. But, have you ever heard about Apitherapy, which has been used to treat many serious medical conditions? Apitherapy is the medicinal use of products that are being made and produced by the honey bees. ‘Apis’, is a word originated from Latin and it means ‘The Bee’. Hence, there is no doubt that Apitherapy surely means ‘the Bee therapy’.
Among many products of the honey bee, the most commonly used in our lives are bee venom, bee honey, pollen, royal jelly, propolis and bees wax. Different therapies using these bee products existed since thousands of years ago and some treatments can be called as old as human medicine and Ayurveda.
Even though bee honey venom is the most famous in Apitherapy, it is important to know that bee venom is not the only bee product used in Apitherapy. The use of all the other bee products is one of the main concepts in this ancient treatment method. The use of bee venom is also called as ‘Bee sting therapy’ and it is a sub-branch of Apitherapy.
In Apitherapy, combinations of many hive products are used very frequently. There is also an enormous amount of times where the hive products are mixed with other products such as essential oils, herbs and others in different treatments. Furthermore, these treatments showed that use of hive products enhanced the effectiveness of the other products when they are combined together.
With the discovery of the power of bee products by modern science, many medical practitioners paid attention in Apitherapy.
