CHAPTER 1

Angelica peeped through the narrow opening. It was almost time. She had studied every single detail, and yet her heart was pounding furiously. Air. She felt she needed air. She took a long, deep breath. There could be no mistakes. It was all up to her.

“Are you sure you can do it?” said the tall, blond, athletic guy who walked up to stand next to her. “You know what you have to do, right?”

Angelica turned toward him. Antonio. She nodded. “Hand me the gel. There’s no way I’m backing down. Not now.”

He passed her the jar. “Go heavy with it on your face. You still have to be careful.”

She flashed a tense smile. “Don’t worry, I’m not afraid.”

Antonio shook his head. “You know, he’s not going to be happy about this.”

She shrugged. “He’s never happy with anything I do.”

“Maybe because you always do things your own way?” Antonio chuckled. “I’m going to get ready. See you out there.”

Angelica unscrewed the lid from the jar and began smearing the foul-smelling stuff on her skin. For a moment she wondered why so many women were obsessed with beauty creams and special oils. She just didn’t get it. Rubbing gooey concoctions on her body was not her idea of a good time. To hell with beauty, she needed her body to be a perfectly oiled machine. The stuff she was rubbing on her skin stunk, and it cost a fortune too. But, in this case, it was worth it. She applied the gel to her long, shapely legs, her flat, sculpted belly, strong arms, and full breasts. Thank God for inventing the minimizer bra. Big boobs got in the way and attracted undesired attention. Finally, she applied the gel to her face. There was a small mirror on the wall and it reflected back her large, dark, sparkling eyes, pert nose that was wrinkled from the strong smelling gel, full lips drawn back with excitement, and a mass of wild dark curls barely dominated by a barrette.

When she was done, she pulled on her jumpsuit. She was ready, and today, everyone would notice her.

Engines roared behind her. Angelica accelerated full throttle and the motorcycle shot away, leaving the two chase cars in her dust. Her black jumpsuit, with red flame-like inserts, hugged her slender, agile body and showed off her muscled curves. After the straightaway there was a sweeping right which she and her vehicle took as one, moving at incredible speed and nearly grazing the ground as she leaned into it. With a wild maneuver, one of the two cars overtook her just before Angelica launched into a spectacular spin, which she pulled out of by accelerating and lifting the bike up into a wheelie. Adrenaline raced through her body, making her blood pump with exhilarating violence.

Ready…One…Two…Three…

The other car cut her off, positioning itself sideways in front of her. She squeezed the brakes, the motorcycle slid across the blacktop, and Angelica leapt backwards off the vehicle to avoid collision. She pulled herself to her feet, looked around, and ran toward a nearby building. Gunshots rang out. Heavy car doors slammed shut.
