Book description

Saira, the Keeper of the Light and the Tides, found Ava a

long time ago and raised her. Together with Niam, the

Keeper of the Writings and Teachings, Ava was trained to

be one of the best students in the Council of Light. After

Ava's trial, she was given the title “The Ambassador of

Fate” and the task “Bring the message to those for whom

it is time.” from Saira. Ava is to leave the gorge and go out

into the world to fulfill her task. With Lana, Akim,

Amazons and many others, Ava came closer to her goal.

But she doubted and did not let anyone get close to her. As

a white person, she saw how white people put people of

color in chains and did terrible things to them. The people

confused Ava. On the one hand she saw only hate and

suffering and yet people could love. Ava fought for the

people who were important to her, but she saw no end to

it. When one chain was broken, a new one was created.

The land is soaked in blood. Some celebrate life, others

mourn death. It is an illusion that one side wins. But Ava

goes to the end.

Julia Rimkus

My name is Julia Rimkus, and I was born on September 5,

1989, in Auetal, Germany. I grew up near Hanover in

Germany and moved to Hanover city center in 2016. I

started my first apprenticeship as a chef in 2007 at the age

of 17. After the second attempt in 2008, I dropped out and

started training as a geriatric nurse in 2009. I stayed in the

nursing home until July 2011 and then dropped out. From

2011 to 2012, I completed my training as a care assistant.

Until February 2014, I remained in geriatric nursing and

care for the elderly and worked in various care facilities.

After taking a break and reorienting my career, I took

further training from 2018 to 2019 and became an

integration facilitator. From August to November 2020, I

attended further training to become a caregiver and am

authorized to work in elderly care. What sets me apart

from the authors is that I paint my book covers in acrylic.

There will be more books to come. I promise.

Ava

A little girl ran through the streets laughing and

accidentally bumped into people passing by. „Hey!“, said

a woman, looking after her. „Sorry.“, Ava called. Ava ran

into a side street and suddenly stopped in front of a tall,

bald man with a beard. „Ava. It's time for your lesson!“,

said Niam. „I still want to play. Please.“, said Ava. „Come

on! Take my hand!“, said Niam and held out his hand to

her. „Mhm.“, said Ava and put her hand on his. They

teleported into a ravine. Niam walked with Ava to a stone

table and a stone stool. „Have a seat. I have a new task for

you.“, said Niam. Ava sat down at the table. Niam held his

palm up and made an arc around it with his other hand.

Suddenly there was a candle on his hand. „Wow!“, said

Ava amazed. Niam smiled and placed the candle in front

of Ava. „We talked about lighting candles last time. Can

you remember how you light them?“, asked Niam. Ava

thought about it. „With the light inside me.“, said Ava.

„That's right. I'll show you how to use it.“, said Niam.

Niam rubbed his hands together and held them to his

heart. A green ball of light appeared, and he spread the

light like dust over the candle until it burned. Niam flicked

and the candle extinguished. „Now you!“, said Niam. Ava

concentrated on the candle. She rubbed her hands and held

them to her heart. But nothing happened. She rubbed her

hands faster and did the same. Nothing happened again.

She looked disappointedly at Niam. „Don't focus on the

candle in front of you. Concentrate on the light.“, Niam

said. Ava took a deep breath and rubbed her hands once again. She held her hands to her heart. A sliver of light

came forth, but before Ava could bring the light to the

candle, the sliver of light fizzled out. „Don't give up. Keep

practicing. I'll be right back.“, Niam said and vanished

from sight. Ava sat alone in front of the candle and tried

again and again. Saira appeared and smiled when she saw

Ava. When Saira saw Ava despairing, she stood next to her

and said, „Look. I'll show you.“. She rubbed her hands

together and held them to her heart. A white ball of light

appeared and Saira cast the light over the candle. Then she

blew out the flame. „Try again.“, Saira said calmly. Ava

rubbed her hands together. Saira put her hands on Ava's

and showed her how to rub her hands. Saira brought Ava's

hands to Ava's heart. A white ball of light appeared and

Ava guided the ball of light to the candle. She spread the

light over the candle until it burned. „I did it.“, Ava said

proudly. Saira smiled with satisfaction. „Now try it

alone.“, Saira said calmly and blew out the candle. Ava

rubbed her hands together again. This time, she created

the ball of light on her own and lit the candle. She looked

at Saira and smiled. „Very good. You did very well.“,

Saira smiled. Ava's smile changed to a broad grin. At that

moment, Niam appeared. „Niam! Look what I did. I got

it.“, Ava said proudly. „I can see it. You did very well.

You're very clever and a quick learner. I'm very proud of

you, Ava.“, said Niam. Ava was very proud of herself.

„That's it for our lessons today. We'll continue tomorrow.“,

said Niam. „Then I'll take care of our Ava now and show

her something special until it's time to sleep.“, said Saira.

„She's yours. I'll see you later, Saira. Sleep well Ava. See

you in the morning.“, Niam said and disappeared into thin

air. Ava was excited and looked alternately between Saira and Niam. „Come on Ava. I want to show you

something.“, Saira said and walked through the gorge with

Ava. „Where are we going?“, asked Ava. „Be patient.

We'll be there any minute.“, said Saira. They came to a

cave. There were shards of light everywhere, illuminating

the cave. „Wow.“, Ava said astonished. Saira smiled. They

came to a pool of water. „Come, take a seat by the pool

and see inside.“, Saira said calmly. Ava looked over the

edge into the water. Saira stirred the water with her finger

and Ava could see the sky. „The stars.“, Ava said excitedly.

„See how the light changes.“, Saira said, holding her flat

hand over the surface of the water. Ava saw the stars

forming a sphere. Saira made several hand movements

and the ball of light rose out of the water. The sphere of

light left Ava open-mouthed in amazement. Saira made the

luminous sphere spin. „Look into the sphere!“, said Saira.

The sphere became transparent and Ava saw a crystal of

light. With her hand, Saira reached into the light and

removed the crystal. The ball of light sank into the water.

Saira conjured a chain on the crystal. Then Saira blew

against the light crystal and it turned a vibrant red. She put

the necklace on Ava. Ava looked at the crystal and then at

Saira. „Are they stars?“, Ava asked. Saira smiled. „It's

starlight with my blood. The crystal will protect you.“,

Saira said. „Protect? From what?“, asked Ava. „Ava. You

have to know. There are many shadows on this earth.

There are people who harm others. You will grow up and

be an adult soon. Very soon you will be faced with

difficult decisions and the crystal will protect you on your

way.“, Saira said. Ava held the crystal of light in her

hands. „What kind of decisions will it be?“, asked Ava.

„You'll find out soon. Until then, you'll learn a lot more. There's so much more to it than just lighting candles.“,

Saira smiled and stroked Ava's cheek. „Like what?“, Ava

asked curiously. „You will learn about rituals. You will be

taught the history of light. You'll learn how to use light.“,

Saira said. „So much? That will be a lot of studying.“, Ava

said and sighed. Saira smirked. „Yes, it will be. It sounds a

lot, but you'll see, the time will go by faster than you

think.“, Saira said. „I can't wait.“, Ava said and yawned.

„Come on, it's getting late.“, Saira said and walked with

Ava out of the cave to an open area where a rock ledge

served as a roof. Saira swirled her hands and a bed of

starlight and shards of light appeared over the bed. Ava lay

down in the bed. Saira tucked her in and sat on the edge of

the bed. „Will you stay with me until I fall asleep?“, Ava

asked. „I'll stay with you.“, said Saira. She twirled one

hand in the air. Now Ava could see the starry sky. „Close

your eyes and sleep carefully Ava. Dream of the infinite

vastness of the universe. The stars are watching over you.

Sleep.“, Saira said in a calm voice. Ava closed her eyes

and began to dream.

The Task

Ava grew into a young adult and was trained in the

knowledge of the Light by the Council, especially by

Niam and Saira. Now her final test was approaching. She

spent every night on the cliff near the gorge practicing the

rituals. Over time, she had learned how to use the light of

nature and in her heart. Ava has the ability to influence the

elements of nature and practiced moving stones with her

will. Saira appeared behind Ava on the cliff and watched

her. Ava sensed Saira's presence and turned to face her.

Her eyes were white. Saira wiped the air with her hand

and Ava's eyes returned to their natural color. Ava closed

her eyes for a moment and had a burning feeling suddenly

and then looked at Saira. „Never merge our two souls

without my permission!“, Saira said sternly. „I'm sorry.“,

said Ava. „Remember that! But I actually wanted to see

how you progressed. You've been sitting here for hours.“,

said Saira. „Do you see that stone tower over there?“,

asked Ava, pointing to the stone tower on a large stone

cliff. Saira saw it and was impressed. „Very good.“, said

Saira. Ava put her candles in her bag. „Tomorrow is your

test. Are you prepared?“, asked Saira. Ava hung her bag

across her torso and stood up. „I think so.“, Ava said

thoughtfully. „Hey, what's wrong?“, asked Saira. Ava

looked at Saira. „Everything will change after then, won't

it?“, asked Ava. „Ava! You've become a grown woman.

You look at the horizon every day and dream of exploring

the world. Ava, you are strong and self-confident. You are

on fire for the good things in life. Your test is not the end, after that you open a new chapter.“, said Saira. „What if I

fail?“, asked Ava. „You won't.“, said Saira. „What makes

you confident?“, asked Ava. „Because I know you. Seeing

as I believe in you. I know what you're capable of.“, said

Saira. „Have you seen my future?“, asked Ava. „We

should go.“, Saira evaded. „You're avoiding me! You have

the gift. Tell me! You've seen my future, am I right?“, Ava

shouted. Saira turned around and looked into Ava's eyes.

Their souls merged. Her eyes turned white. „Look at me!

Never question my decisions. Look into the future

yourself and never look back. The light will guide you and

one more thing. Never question me, the head of the

council, the guardian of the light and the tides. Never!“,

Saira said sternly and interrupted the connection. „Come

on. We're going!“, said Saira. Ava went down into the

ravine with her without reluctance. Saira walked on, but

Ava stopped at a pool of water and looked into it. Saira

looked back and walked back to Ava. Ava wiped the

surface of the water and saw the starry sky. Saira stood

beside her. „You've never affected me before, especially

not being as strict with me. You've changed.“, Ava said.

„Ava! I've raised you since you were a baby. You're my

foster daughter. But I am the one who will test you

tomorrow. I have to give you a quest. I have to tell you

your destiny. Giving you your title. It is my destiny to

decide your future. I'm one of the council's supreme

leaders and I have no choice. If I have been strict with

you, then I want you to be independent. I want you to

believe in yourself as I do. But I am also your tutor. I often

have to treat you differently than you deserve or expect.

Do you understand that?“, said Saira. „Yes.“, said Ava and

pulled a shard of light out of the water. She formed a heart from it and held it in her hand. Then she brought it to

Saira's chest and let it into her heart. She looked at Saira

and Saira held Ava's hand against her heart. „You don't

have to say anything. I know.“, Saira said. She hugged

Ava. „I will never leave you alone. Never!“, whispered

Saira. „I'm worried.“, whispered Ava. „You don't need to

be. You have the gift of making the powers of the

elements yours. A strong sorceress, you are by far the best

student I have ever had the pleasure of training. I am

already so immensely proud of you. You will succeed.“,

said Saira. „Thank you on believing in me.“, Ava said and

looked at Saira. „Look inside yourself, and you'll believe

in yourself too. Go to sleep and recharge your batteries. I

have some things to discuss with Raman and the rest of

the council.“, Saira said. „Okay. See you tomorrow.“, Ava

said and let go of Saira. „See you tomorrow. Sleep well.“,

Saira said and kissed Ava on the forehead. Ava went to her

sleeping place. Saira looked after her and then went into

one of the caves to the council. Ava wiped above her head

and many lighted candles appeared above her bed. She

stayed awake for a long time until sleep took her. Ava

woke up the next day. The candles above her had

extinguished and burned down. She moved her hands and

said, „The time I have left. Melt into one and give me the

light and shine my path wide.“. The candles melted into

one large one. Ava changed into a black dress and hung

her necklace around her neck. Saira came with a black

cloak. „Good morning. I brought you your cloak.“, Saira

said and held it out to Ava. Ava looked at her. Saira helped

her into the cloak. „Now you're ready.“, Saira said

emotionally. „I'm ready.“, Ava said and held out her hand

to the candle. It flew into her hand. „For what did you choose this spell?“, Saira asked. „For remaining time.“,

said Ava. „You didn't get it from me or Niam.“, Saira said.

„It resulted from an accident a while ago. I wanted to

create shards of light against the darkness, but they

became candles. Today, I fused all the candles into one.“,

said Ava. „I like the spell.“, Saira smiled. Ava smiled back.

„Let's go. The council is waiting for us.“, Saira said and

walked with Ava to the stone circle. The council had

gathered together there and were already standing in a

circle. „Ava, take your place in the center.“, said Raman,

the guardian of the circle. Saira placed her hand on Ava's

back and guided her to the center. „Stand here!“, said

Saira and stood in the circle to join the council. Ava sent

the candle into the air and lit up the place. Some of the

council murmured something to each other. „Quiet! Ava.

Today you will be tested in three quests. Task 1: >>Create

something from the light within you<<>> . Task 2: Merge

with a person and see their destiny<<. Task 3: >>Illuminate

the ravine in golden light<<. Are you ready?“, asked Resa,

the Guardian of Conscience and another of the Council's

Supreme Heads. „I am ready!“, said Ava confidently.

„May the examiner step into the circle!“, shouted Resa.

Saira stepped into the circle. Ava looked at her. „Ava. It's

time for >><< task 1. Create something out of light.”, said

Saira. Ava closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She

waved her arms as if they were wings. Then she held her

hands to her heart and pulled out a glowing egg. She held

it in front of her and the council saw a chick hatch. Ava

quickly raised her hands upwards and an owl flew over the

council's heads to a rock. She sat down there. The council

applauded. „Bravo!“, whispered Niam. „Well done, Ava.“,

said Resa. „Let's move on to >>task 2<<. Find a person and look into that person's soul.“, said Saira. Ava looked

around. She walked towards a young man. It was Noah.

He is a young scholar who helped Niam with the

scriptures. „Focus, Ava.“, whispered Saira. Ava focused on

Noah. „Look at me.“, Ava said and merged with Noah's

soul. Both of their eyes turned white. „Now Ava, tell us

what you see.“, Saira said. Ava heard Noah's feelings and

thoughts in her head. She sensed his fear. „I can feel his

fear. He's fighting me.“, Ava said. „Relax, Noah.“, said

Niam. „I see an old man in a white cloak and white hair.

He carries scrolls under his arm. There is white moonlight

around him.“, said Ava. „Very good. Break the

connection.“, said Saira. Ava broke the connection and

looked at Noah. He was uncomfortable and Ava felt it.

„Well. It's time for the final task.“, Saira snapped Ava out

of her thoughts. Ava looked at her. She knew she had to

concentrate and pull herself together again. „Illuminate the

gorge in golden light.“, Saira said. Ava closed her eyes.

She knelt on the ground and placed her hands flat on the

ground. A wind blew through the gorge. The council

looked uneasily at each other. Only Saira remained calm

and watched Ava. Ava stood up. Her hair blew in the wind.

The necklace shone a bright red. She held her hands

together and opened them slightly. Holding a bud of

golden light. Ava opened her eyes. They were white. She

let the bud fly. The bud opened and became a lotus flower.

Ava stretched her arms above her head and held her hands

together. Then she spread her arms apart at shoulder

height. The flower grew larger. Ava clasped her hands

together over her head and the flower shattered into many

shards. They lit up the whole canyon in a bright golden

light. The council held their hands to shield their eyes. Saira made a gesture and the light went out. She sent a

sliver of light to the candle above Ava, which began to

burn again. „She is a danger to everyone. She summoned

the elements and nearly brought down the canyon. She is a

disgrace to the Council. Take the light from her!“, said

Miranda, the Guardian of Souls. „Silence!“, said Saira and

everyone heard a rumble of thunder. Her eyes turned white

and merged with Miranda. Miranda fell silent. Saira broke

the connection. „No one was in danger. Never try to

portray Ava as a dangerous and evil sorceress. But

Miranda is right about one thing. Ava does have the power

to influence the elements. But as I stand, Ava has passed

all three quests. Or does anyone on the council have any

doubts?“, Saira called out and looked around. The council

remained silent. „She has completed the quests. Now

Saira. You know what you have to do. Give Ava her

mission and her title!“, said Raman. Saira looked at

Raman. Ava looked from Raman to Saira. Saira's heart

grew heavy. She looked at Ava and merged with her.

„Look into my heart and soul! See and feel my feelings.“,

Saira whispered. Ava felt Saira's pain. She could hardly

bear it. „You have come so far. You've become a part of

us. Now go and spread the message of fate to those for

whom it is time. That's why I'm appointing you

>><< Ambassador of Fate. I send you out into the world and

fulfill your mission.“, said Saira, breaking the connection.

„I accept.“, Ava said and knelt in front of Saira. She

bowed to her. „With this, Ava's fate is sealed.“, Resa said.

The council disappeared. Only Ava, Niam and Saira were

left in the stone circle. Ava looked up at Niam and Saira.

„Get up!“, said Saira. Ava stood up. „You've made us very

proud.“, said Niam. „Thank you, my mentor.“, Ava said, relieved. „But the lotus almost hurt you!“, said Saira. „I

knew what I was doing. I felt it inside me.“, said Ava.

„You used a lot more light than you should have.“, said

Niam. „No one was harmed.“, said Ava. „You affected the

wind and the earth. You used my blood in the necklace

and my light in you. You called the tides. No one, not even

me, ever summoned the lotus.“, Saira said sternly. „But

there was a guardian or guardianess who had summoned

the phoenix. I found it in one of Niam's writings.“, Ava

said and looked at Niam. Niam looked at Saira and

nodded. Saira looked at Niam and understood what he was

trying to tell her. „Tell her.“, Niam said, nevertheless.

„It's... was a female guardian!“, said Saira. „So it's true?“,

Ava asked. “Yes. I am the guardian who summoned the

phoenix.“, said Saira. “You? The phoenix is one of the....“,

said Ava. „.... One of the hardest and most powerful

spells.“, Saira finished Ava's sentence. „You're her tutor,

Saira.“, Niam winked. „Shut up!“, Saira grinned. „You

two are connected. I'm not surprised she chose the lotus.“,

said Niam. Ava smiled. „I'm proud of our Ava.“, Saira

winked at Ava. „Now Ava's journey can begin.“, Niam

said. „My journey?“, Ava asked in astonishment. „Niam,

will you leave us alone, please?“, asked Saira. „Yes, I'll let

you talk. See you soon Ava. I'll see you and I'll watch over

you.“, said Niam and vanished. „Ava.“, Saira said and

came closer. „What did he mean by >>My journey can

begin<<?“, Ava asked. Saira took a deep breath. „As

>><< Ambassador of Fate your mission is to leave us. You

must free people who are in need and stop those who put

people in chains. Find allies and become a warrior. Bring

light into the darkness and give people hope.“, said Saira.

„So this is what you meant when you said >>Go out into the world<< and this is the beginning of my new chapter.“,

said Ava. „It's your destiny.“, said Saira. „When do I have

to go and leave the canyon?“, asked Ava. „Tonight. But

listen to me. Niam and I will never lose sight of you. You

know how to call us. You're never alone.“, said Saira.

„Where will my journey begin?“, asked Ava. Saira merged

with Ava. „Find a stallion as black as the night. He will

carry you to the end of the fight. Become companions and

create an army of the freed.“, said Saira and released the

charm. „Will we meet again?“, asked Ava. „Ava! This is

not goodbye. We'll see each other again soon.“, said Saira.

Saira left Ava. Ava looked around. The owl was still sitting

on the rock. „Will you come with me?“, Ava said to the

owl. The owl preened its feathers. Ava walked up the

stairs to the cliff. The owl flew over her head. Ava walked

on and descended a stone staircase down the mountain.

The moon lit her way. She came to the Forest of Souls. It

was named because a battle once took place there. Many

fell in this place. The Council can sense the souls and the

Guardian of Souls has the task of protecting them. One

soul after another becomes light and part of nature. Ava

could also feel the rest of the energy of the fallen. She felt

cold. She looked in all directions. Blowing into her hands,

she created a small ball of light that warmed her and

brought her light in the darkness. She came to a clearing

and gathered branches and lit a fire. The ball of light made

her disappear. With each rustle, Ava turned her head in

that direction. She felt like a deer in the woods. Always on

the run for danger. She heard the flapping of wings. The

owl flew over her head and perched on a branch in the

nearest tree. „So you are accompanying me. Are you my

shadow or are you my soul?“, said Ava. „Uuuh uuuh uh.“, cried the owl. Ava stayed awake all night, startled by

every sound.

-3-

The Black Stallion

The day dawned and Ava was still sitting awake and

frightened by the fire. She looked in all directions at every

sound. Ava looked at the tree. The owl was still sitting on

the branch, staring at Ava. When the sun's rays reached the

clearing, Ava extinguished the fire with a snap of her

fingers and headed south. It took Ava a long time to walk

until she came across inhabited areas. She came to a town.
