Is there really a difference in the cultures of black African and black American? This is the question that comes to mind when you go through "Beyond the Diversity ". The main characters, Kediro;an African,and Biountya; a black American, met and fell in love. Each of them wanted to make use of the relationship to know the culture and tradition of the other. If Kediro finally fulfils his dream of getting to America, it is thanks to Biountya. She also would love to visit Africa and engage deeply in the traditions of her ancestors. The two of them live in Germany precisely in kumental where Biountya is an American military nurse and kediro is struggling in between jobs for survival. For him, he saw America as a land of glory where he would love to reside in and he became happier when he meets someone from there who could use her influence to open the doors of his dream to him. They get married in Alabama in America where she originates but she still plans on getting back to kumental. Is one part of kediro's dreams shattered? Biountya' s family also wanted to create ties with kediro's family in Africa. They really longed to travel one day to Africa to meet their in- laws. This obligation on their relationship, will permit the black American family to go and visit Africa where they have their ancestral roots. This is a mission that Kediro has to accomplish, but he has not been home for quite a long time and at times sees it as full of insecurity. Will he present the realities of his homeland to them or will he have a complex and show only the beautiful places? Biountya has no problem, she only wants to love the culture and country of his husband ....

Preface

Sometimes when people meet, it could be for a number of reasons such as: empathy, sympathy or common issues which bring them together to be able to communicate and exchange all kinds of topics like their jobs, professions or ethical ideas, no matter where they are from, without getting annoyed with each other.

Perhaps it depends on the opportunity to open yourself up to a broader, more diverse world of cultures, lifestyles, etc. This is the main point of this book “Beyong the Diversity” to open a window to the lack of tolerance and confrontation in normal life situations, in different societies, cultures, or lifestyles. When diversity can be of benefit in diverse situations or opportunities.

This story describes the meeting and development of friendship between two people from different continents, with similar heritage. Biontya is from USA, whereas Kediro is from Kadzumnimkayo, a region in Africa.

Chapter 1: Biountya from American

Biountya is a woman of about fourty year’s old, born in Alabama. She graduated from high school, joined the Army, became a nurse and had a successful career in the military. She loved her job, had a reputation for being an outstanding nurse and had worked at Walter Reed and other medical duty stations.

She was known as a strong woman with character if it was needed and could be smart when a gentleman was standing in front of her.

From her skill, she thought if she could find a job as a nurse in their German psychiatric clinic, this could be very interesting.This was what she had practised with the army and also what she did in the U.S during her apprenticeship until she decided to join the army.She hoped that the Germans would recognize her certificates and qualification, not that they needed additional certificates or courses because her expression in German was not yet excellent. At the moment, she was quite busy with her management activities.

As a convinced Christian, she knew that if you need something in life you must be patient and pray to the Lord always.

She had joined the military because she wanted to be a nurse and due to lack of funds to finance her education, the Army offered her a great opportunity. At first, she prayed that she would never have to go to the frontline, but she was proud to be a military nurse and she was ready at anytime to defend her motherland. She was a good nurse and it appeared as though the unit, the patients and all, liked her too. She got the impression that they were concerned with her health problem, as she was part of this family.

Her latest assignment was at the Wiesbaden Army Medical Center, which would be her first time to visit Europe. During the first Golf War, her unit was assigned to deploy to the Emirates of Arabia and Iraq, just prior to deployment, Biountya began to have pain in her legs, and she was dismissed.

As she met the Commanding Officer, he told her that she would remain for some years in the Wiesbaden Medical Center. There she had to work in Station 5, where the returning troops from the Front needed the most help if they were traumatized. She was afraid because those who were traumatized could react aggressively and as a woman, they could also try to abuse her. This would be different because these troops were seriously troubled.

During her first period in the Station 5, she found the people quite relaxed than what the Colonel told her before. She couldn’t mention any trouble in their behaviour and found that they were enjoying with her every day. Duke, one of the known troublemakers said to her: “Mrs Biountya, how you take people, and this is how they behave too. The nurse who was here before you was thinking that we are not normal; she was talking arrogantly that made the people around her nervous. With you we can get very quick out of our problem, you understand me?”

Biountya smiled and said to Duke “thank You Duke for the compliment. You are a Soldier like me and a colleague. How should I shout here like a beast?”

The entire group clashed and repeated “very good question, you are welcome.”

She worked there for a year and after that, she was transferred to Kulmental. There she had to occupy a position in management of the logistic equipments and was very happy. Kulmental was a nice town with a long water sea surrounding it. From the bridge she could see the airport of Gandeck. Kulmental had a nice shopping street where she could buy clothes at lower prices. Many people came from other towns to shop there during the weekends.

In Kulmental, she went often to a discothèque downtown and met other people from different countries. She always said: “in the casern I am with my US Guys but I also like to meet with non Americans. I want to learn from other cultures too.”

After a while, she left the military camp and decided to rent a private house. She wanted to get close to the people there and learn more from their cultures.During the two years she spent in this Country, she was still unable to speak German, and she thinks by getting close to these people, she might improve her German language skills and if possible, get a German husband. During that time, many things were running in her mind. She regrets that all this would have been done since she came, but it is never too late, like her Grandmother always says. Even when she was starting her military carrier, she knew that one day if she has to resign later, the time she has served with the uniform, will still remain in her mind. Then she received a discipline, she was full of character and got a personality by the time she was thinking to give up and reconvert into a civilian. But she knew she had also to learn German if she wanted to work here as a qualified nurse.

 Some nights she would ponder and even regret why she had to live Alabama for so many years living all her relatives behind.Then she would console herself with the thought that migration is part of life and in migrating to other places, you collect life’s pictures of which you later put together to see the changes you have made in your life.This did not worry only Biountya. In her discussions with other foreigners in Kulmental, she found out that they all have the same worries about living home.
