God is our refuge and

Strength, A very Present

Help in trouble.

~Psalm 46:1~

Prologue

Emma woke to a beautiful day. She was glad she would finally be rid of her terrifying husband. She had as much as she could tolerate. He had made her mad, so she didn’t fix his breakfast. Emma’s husband was angry causing him to stomp on Emma’s cell phone. She wondered if he would ever calm his temper.

“I don’t like the things you do in the Mafia,” Emma said. “One Dog’s wife told me what you were doing, It’s not right. You can’t go around harming people. Don’t you have a conscience?”

“You didn’t have to do that to my phone, you know.” Emma was beginning to run low on patience. She was going to leave with her friends on one of their vacations they take every chance they get.

“Oh, One Dog’s wife is crazy. She doesn’t know as much as she thinks she does,” John says with an angry expression on his face. He was a handsome man when he wasn’t angry, but most of the time, he is angry. Emma has a lot to think about. Should she leave him or not?

“I am going on a vacation with my friends. We are going to Alaska.”

“Go ahead. See if I care,” Emma’s husband said as he took his gun out of his holster.

Emma was somewhat scared of her husband. He had a violent temper. He had turned that bad temper on her more times than she could count.

Her friends said they would go with her. Emma’s husband looked at her with a Devil smile.

“I swear I won’t say a word,” Emma promised.

“You better not if you know what’s good for you,” John yelled to Emma.

One Dog’s wife, White Feather, was at her friend’s house with a pan of brownies. She was taking the brownies to put them away. When she did that, she slipped her cell phone in Emma’s pocket. Emma slipped it back and whispered to Emma for her to keep her phone so she would have a way for all of them to have in case of emergency.

Emma called Amelia and Amy and told them to bring a gun for protection. They also would need clothes for winter and summer clothes due to not knowing where they may go.

While Emma was listening to her friends, she slipped the cell phone back in White Feather’s pocket, but one Dog’s wife gave it back to Emma. “I don’t want you to get in trouble with the Mafia.”

“You may need a phone.”

Emma told White Feather that she would always call her a friend. “I will never forget you, my friend.”

John left the house, so Emma called her friends. “Do either of you know a good place to go first?”

“Sure, let’s go to Kansas,” Amelia says. “You say you never told John who any of your relatives were, but I remember you talking of a cousin in Kansas.”

“You’re right. John doesn’t know anyone,”

“So that shouldn’t be a problem if we need to stay with your cousin for one night.”

“We may need to be extremely watchful because the Mafia shoots to kill,” Emma has heard a lot of horrible stories.

Emma’s cousin told the group she had a basement, “and you will stay there, but this is the catch. My door to the pantry is the way to the basement. When I open the door to my pantry, the back of the pantry is a secret door that goes to the basement. That is where you ladies will spend the night. I am so glad you came, Emma. I would like to see you more often. When that husband of yours does something to you again, I might get my .38 out.”

“No one would know where you were. No one knows about this pantry.” The girls decided it was a good idea. They could leave in the morning. The Mafia should be ahead of them by then.

Chapter One

Before Emma and the girls left for their imaginary trip to Alaska. Emma was praying her husband wouldn’t be checking up on her Alaska trip. He called Amelia and Amy’s husbands.

“Do you think our wives have really gone to Alaska?”

Both husbands told John that the girls have been wanting to go to Alaska for a long time now. “Don’t worry. They will be okay if they don’t meet up with one of those huge Polar bears.”

“Okay, thanks for the information,” John said with a smile.

Emma went to the bank on their way to Alaska. She took all her money out of her bank account. After the bank stop, Emma went straight to a car lot where Emma made a trade, her BMW for a pale blue nineteen, sixty-six Mustang. The car salesman smiled wide as he watched the ladies leave the lot.

The girls laughed as they left the car lot. They knew they would need to be careful with this car. “If the Mafia are chasing us, they may see your BMW on that lot over there on the other side of this road.”

“I gave that salesman a thousand dollars not to say anything to anybody about my BMW being here on their lot.”

The girls left the car dealership with high hopes that this trip will be good with a lot of adventure in it and fun. They knew Emma needed a good time because her husband can be a source of many troubles. Emma wonders, at times, why she married John. He was a different person when they were dating. She didn’t know before they were married what he was like, but over the years, she began to see what he was really like, but she would not dwell on it now. It’s water over the bridge now.

Amelia took her turn driving. She likes to drive more than the other two friends, but one thing, for sure, they always have fun no matter where they go, or what may happen along the way.

“Girls, I think we are being followed. It looks like three men. What do we do about that?” Amelia was beginning to be agitated. She had never been in a situation like this before, and it was scary. They didn’t have a clue who it could be. They have an idea that they were FBI or something like the CIA due to the Black Tahoe they were driving.

“I think we should speed up some. I see we are about to go around a huge curve up ahead. We can see if we find a convenience store or some other kind of structure,” they noticed it was, indeed, a store.

“We stop here and park behind the store.” They were lucky because behind the store was a huge dumpster where they could park on the large side behind the store. They went inside the store and saw the sign that said restrooms. It was a large restroom. They heard footsteps walking around the store. The girls opened the restroom window and jumped out and started running toward the Mustang.

“We should go back in the store to see if we can find some kind of hat and sunglasses. We can push our hair up under our hats. That should make everyone confused.”

When they came out to get in the Mustang, they looked down, and they noticed all four tires were flat. They looked like someone had slit them with a knife.

“Well, what do we do now?” Amy asked. Amelia noticed a wooded area in the back of the store. “We need to run along the line of the trees, so no one could see us. We could stay out of sight.

“Oh, my goodness gracious. Look to the trail along the woods.” They saw something they thought they would never see in this lifetime. “Am I seeing right or is there a Gypsy wagon ahead of us? This just might be fun,” Emma was trying to keep positive about their little adventure.

It’s a happy wagon. It had been painted a bright red with flowers painted on the sides. They thought, ‘this was a good thing. Maybe the three men following may lose us now. They won’t be expecting us to be in a Gypsy wagon.’

The two Gypsies, who was driving, were Salvador and Aletta. When they found out three men were chasing the ladies, they put the girls in the back of the wagon. Aletta dressed the girls with scarfs over their hair, long skirts, and shirts that fall off the shoulders.

They made sure the girls stayed inside the wagon so not to be seen.

Chapter Two

The girls woke to the movement of the wagon that felt like a light springing step. They were still in the wagon of Salvador and Aletta.

“Where are we?” Emma asked

Salvador told the girls they were in Nebraska.
