Final Request

"...Furthermore, it is my final request that the coffin in which my body is to be buried be made at the home of Joaquim Soares, on Alfândega Street. I wish him to be informed of this disposition, which will also be made public. Joaquim Soares does not know me; but he is worthy of the distinction, being one of our best artists and one of the most honorable men in our land..."

This testamentary provision was strictly complied with. Joaquim Soares made the coffin in which the body of poor Nicolau B. de C. was placed; he made it himself, con amore
