I dedicate this book to my wife, Viviana, who has helped me grow my name and personal brand for over 20 years.

Introduction

A few years ago, I stood on a stage in front of 5,000 people at an event. I was there to share my vision for the future of publishing and eBooks, discussing how the world was rapidly changing and how printed words were giving way to digital ones. It was an exciting moment, but I never imagined that what would happen next would be even more incredible.

After my speech, I walked off the stage and approached the audience. It is in those moments that speakers feel the real connection with people: when you can touch the emotions and reactions of your listeners. It was at that moment that an elderly gentleman with silvery hair and a curious look approached me.

He gave me a polite smile and, calling me 'tu', said: 'Excuse me, can I take a selfie with you? His request seemed a mere formality in a world where selfies have become the norm. But then he continued: 'This is the first time I have ever asked someone for a selfie.

I smiled, a little surprised, and asked jokingly, 'So you've known me a long time?' He shook his head with a negative nod and said: 'No! I just saw you on stage. But I googled you and realised that you are an absolute authority'.

Those words hit me like a thunderbolt. A 78-year-old man, who had probably seen many things in his life, had asked me for a selfie just because he had found information about me online. But it didn't end there, because that small interaction would have an incredible impact on his life.

During that event, that gentleman not only took a photo with me, but made a decision that would change the course of his business. He bought a training course worth tens of thousands of euros, which would take him very far. All this is thanks to my reputation on Google. His confidence stemmed from the knowledge that I was an authoritative figure in my field, a person capable of guiding him to success.

That is why I am here with you today to share this story and give you the tools and knowledge you need to build your digital identity and personal brand. We live in a world where customers are not only looking for products or services. They are also looking for you, the person behind those products or services. Your online presence, reputation and authority matter more than ever.

Throughout this book, we will explore together the importance of building your personal brand and curating your digital identity on Google. We will address every aspect of this process in a systematic way, guiding you through the fundamental steps to becoming an authority in your field. We will start by examining how to build your ecosystem on Google, because that is where it all begins. If you're not on Google, you don't exist.

You will learn how to be found online and how to avoid the risk of being hidden by your competitors. You will discover the importance of valuable content and how to manage your online reputation to protect and enhance your brand. We will continue our journey by exploring how to publish a book on Google Books and Amazon. You will discover how publishing a book can be a powerful personal branding strategy. You will learn how to optimise the visibility of your book and how to promote it effectively. We will explore the importance of reviews and how to create links with other digital content to expand your authority.

Next, we will explore the press review on Google News and how to be present in this context. We will show you how to create newsworthy content and how to use press releases to your advantage. We will also see how to monitor and manage news about you and your brand.

In the fourth chapter, we will focus on your personal website and blog. You will learn how to develop a website that represents you and how to use blogging to build your personal brand. You will see how to optimise SEO for your site and how to engage readers with quality content.

We will then move on to videos on Google Video and YouTube. I will guide you through creating impactful video content and advise you on how to optimise SEO for your videos. You will see how to engage with your audience and how to analyse metrics to improve your presence. We will also explore successful examples on YouTube and how to integrate video into your personal branding.

In the sixth chapter, we will enter the world of social networking. I will help you choose the right social platforms and create engaging and authentic profiles. We will explore content and interaction strategies, along with the use of metrics to optimise your presence. We will look at how to manage reputation on social and how to avoid and manage crises.

Finally, we will discuss the future of personal branding and the next steps you can take to continue building your authority. I will also provide you with additional resources to explore the concepts examined further.

Start this journey with me, and together, we will explore, step by step, in order of importance and authority, how to become an authority in your field. It will be an exciting journey full of discoveries, and I look forward to sharing it with you.

Happy reading!

Giacomo Bruno

Chapter 1:

Your Digital Ecosystem on Google

Ever Googled Your Name?

This is a question I urge you to consider seriously, because the answer to this simple question can reveal a lot about you and your online presence. You might be surprised to discover how many details about yourself are accessible to anyone with access to the Internet.

For many of us, searching for one's name on Google might seem like an act of vanity or narcissism, but it is much more than that. It is an action that reflects the modern reality in which we live. Recent statistics show that more and more people are searching for themselves online, and the reasons are varied.

If you have never done a Google search for your name yourself, chances are that other people have done it for you. They could be potential customers who want to know more about who you are and what you do, as well as curious friends or collaborators who want to assess your professionalism. In an increasingly connected world, your online presence is a fundamental part of your identity, both personally and professionally.

Statistics show that 94% of people, particularly those who use the Net for work purposes, have searched for their name on Google at least once. This trend is a testimony to the growing awareness of the importance of one's digital identity. It is not just a matter of 'googling' to satisfy a personal curiosity, but of assessing how we are perceived online by anyone who searches for information about us.

This seemingly simple first step can lead to a number of crucial discoveries and reflections. You may discover which information is readily available about you and which aspects of your digital identity could use improvement or more attention. You might find pleasant surprises, such as positive reviews from satisfied customers, or situations that require immediate action, such as dealing with negative comments or unfavourable news.

Googling your name is an essential starting point for understanding how others see you and how you might be evaluated by your customers, friends, colleagues or potential employers. It is not just an act of curiosity, but a smart strategy to manage your online presence and reputation.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with numerous entrepreneurs and professionals through my role as a professional book publisher. Many of these people had unique and incredible stories to share with the world, but I noticed that they often faced challenges related to their digital identity that had a significant impact on their results and visibility.

One of the most memorable cases was that of Andrea, a talented consultant. He had vast experience and deep knowledge of the industry, but when I googled his name, I was surprised. There was no trace of him online. He has no personal website, no profile on social networks, and, above all, no results linking him to his professional activity. It was as if he was non-existent in the digital world. Similarly, I met Maria, a talented writer with a number of published books. However, when I googled her name, I found numerous homonyms that made it difficult to identify her authority in her field. The chaos of confusing results made it difficult for potential readers to find her and connect with her work.

These are just two examples of professionals who encountered challenges related to their digital identity. The result was a disorganised or even non-existent online presence, leading to a loss of business opportunities and visibility. But what they learned is that, with the right approach, it is possible to turn this situation into an opportunity.

Throughout this book, we will explore how you can avoid finding yourself in such a situation. You will learn how to build a strong and consistent digital ecosystem that effectively represents who you are and your business. Your digital identity should never be an obstacle, but a powerful tool for your success.

SECRET #1: a Google search is the first step to check your digital identity and see if you are absent or if you have an authoritative presence consistent with your profession.

1.2. The Importance of Building a Personal Brand as an Ecosystem

You have tested yourself by searching for your name on Google, you have discovered what appears when someone searches for information about you, and you have taken the first step towards controlling your digital identity. Now, we will get to the heart of the matter: the importance of building a personal brand as a complete digital ecosystem.

But what exactly does 'personal brand' mean? In a nutshell, your personal brand is the perception people have of you, both online and offline. It is how you represent yourself, your reputation, and how you position yourself in your industry or area of expertise. It is your digital business card that can open doors, attract opportunities and build meaningful relationships. You can think of your personal brand as an evolving work of art. It is an image that you constantly paint through your actions, your content, and your interaction with the world. Your digital identity is one of the main tools for shaping this image and making it stand out clearly and recognisably.

An effective personal brand is like a well-curated digital ecosystem. It consists of various elements that work synergistically to present you at your best. These elements can include your personal website, social media profiles, the content you create, customer reviews and more. Each part of this ecosystem contributes to building your authority and online reputation.

To better understand the importance of this concept, let us take a concrete example. Imagine that you are a professional in the field of fitness and wellness. Your goal is to help people live healthier and fitter lives. Now, suppose a potential customer searches online for an expert in the field of fitness. What will he find when he searches for your name? If you have built a personal brand as a digital ecosystem, it is likely that his search will lead to results that reinforce you. He will find your bestselling book on Amazon, your personal website with informative articles on fitness and nutrition, video tutorials on effective workouts, and positive reviews from satisfied customers. He might discover your social profiles with daily tips on how to stay fit and a community of like-minded people.

In this case, your personal brand has made you the customer's first choice. You have demonstrated your authority through valuable content and positive reviews and created a meaningful connection with your audience through interaction on social media. You have built a reputation that makes you credible and trustworthy in your industry.

On the other hand, if you have not invested in building your personal brand, the situation may be very different. The search could lead to fragmented results, or, worse, no meaningful results that relate directly to you. Having 0 results on Google would be a professional disaster.

You would miss the opportunity to get noticed and demonstrate your competence. Instead, the customer might choose a competitor who has built a stronger and more recognisable personal brand.

The importance of building a personal brand as a complete digital ecosystem, therefore, lies in the fact that it allows you to control your online narrative. You do not leave others' perceptions of you to chance but shape them strategically and intentionally. This allows you to stand out from the competition, attract opportunities and build trusting relationships with your audience.

As a publisher, I have assisted many professionals and entrepreneurs in transforming their books into a powerful tool for building authority and recognition. The book becomes the hub of the brand ecosystem, from which robust branches branch out to other channels: social media, blogs, interviews and conferences.

Take the case of Elena, a consultant. Before writing her book, Elena was one among many in her field. But once published, she became a leading voice. Every chapter and every anecdote in her book turned into content for her social channels, topics for her workshops, and insights for interviews. His online presence flourished, creating a harmonious and coherent ecosystem revolving around his book. For Marco, an entrepreneur in the technology sector, writing a book was also a turning point. His book not only condensed his vision and experience but became a magnet for attracting new opportunities. From the book came collaborations, invitations to speak at industry events and a stronger media presence. Every aspect of his personal brand began to vibrate in unison, with the book as a solid foundation.
