WHY THIS MANUAL?

Putin’s horrible attack on the Ukraine shocked everyone. My first question was “How can I help?”

Within days countless volunteers from all over the world formed groups to collect goods and money.

People opened their homes and hearts to welcome refugees or went to adjacent countries to support the volunteers over there. Meanwhile official organizations took over, however there are the weakest and the most important beings still under bombardment. Dogs!

Whether left behind, encaged at a shelter or searching for bombs and survivors - they need us. They need food, medical attention and equipment to perform their tasks.

WARUM DIESE BEDIENUNSANLEITUNG?

Putins schrecklicher Angriff auf die Ukraine schockierte alle. Meine erste Frage war „Wie kann ich helfen?“

Innerhalb weniger Tage bildeten unzählige Freiwillige aus aller Welt Gruppen, um Waren und Geld zu sammeln.

Menschen öffneten ihre Häuser und Herzen, um Flüchtlinge willkommen zu heißen, oder gingen in angrenzende Länder, um die dortigen Freiwilligen zu unterstützen.

Inzwischen haben offizielle Organisationen übernommen, aber die schwächsten und wichtigsten Wesen stehen immer noch unter Beschuss. Hunde!

Ob zurückgelassen, in einem Tierheim eingesperrt oder auf der Suche nach Bomben und Überlebenden – sie brauchen uns. Sie brauchen Nahrung, medizinische Versorgung und Ausrüstung, um ihre Aufgaben zu erfüllen.

My name is Mariia Hrytsyk. I’m a graphic designer from Lviv, Ukraine.

I started drawing when I was a child. I always try to enhance this skill. My illustrations are changing and look different now.

February 24 changed me and my perspective on life. My illustrations help me to live.

I put all my love, pain, and screams in them. Everything that is going on in Ukraine now — it's my story of the war.

The war that takes away my peace and dream. But I still can draw and talk about the war to the world.

Mein Name ist Mariia Hrytsyk. Ich bin Grafikdesignerin aus Lemberg, Ukraine.

Schon als Kind habe ich mit dem Zeichnen begonnen. Ich versuche immer, diese Fähigkeit zu verbessern. Meine Illustrationen ändern sich und sehen jetzt anders aus.

Der 24. Februar hat mich und meine Sicht auf das Leben verändert. Meine Illustrationen helfen mir zu leben.

Ich habe all meine Liebe, meinen Schmerz und meine Schreie in sie gesteckt. Alles, was jetzt in der Ukraine vor sich geht, ist meine Kriegsgeschichte.

Der Krieg, der mir meinen Frieden und meinen Traum nimmt. Aber ich kann immer noch zeichnen und der Welt über den Krieg erzählen.

THE AUTHOR

Birgit H. Hilsbos is the owner of Hilsbos Dog Training in Switzerland, speaker, breeder and temperament tester for all breeds SKG, licensed dog trainer VETA Zurich and NHB specialist.

In Canada she was responsible for the early education of assistance dogs (ADI accredited member), honorary trainer with the Canadian Search Dog Association and member of the K9 Working Group on the use of Civilian SAR Dogs with SAR Alberta. Her dog Blaze was the first dog in Calgary to be certified and deployed by the RCMP as a civilian detection dog.

She specializes in socialization and early education as well as Target Scent Search. The ZiGS® concept she developed is based on detection dog work.

In Kanada war sie verantwortlich für die Früherziehung von Assistenzhunden (Assistance Dogs International akkreditiertes Mitglied) und ehrenamtliche Trainerin der Kanadischen Rettungshundestaffel CSDA. Mit Ihrer Blaze war sie für die Kanadische Bundespolizei RCMP im Einsatz. Von 2017 bis 2021 war sie Mitglied der AG Mantrailing der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Kriminalistik e.V.

Sie ist spezialisiert auf Sozialisierung und Früherziehung sowie Zielgeruchsuche. Das von ihr entwickelte Konzept ZiGS® basiert auf der Spürhundearbeit.

1. AFTER THE PURCHASE

Congratulations! You have just acquired a puppy. When properly installed and maintained, this product, which functions autonomously, can perform many useful tasks.

Even the built-in alarm system can give you a sense of security, however, it might get on your neighbors’ nerves.

Adapting a puppy to its new environment can be very stressful. You are in for weeks of complicated software downloads and maintenance of a highly complex and ever-changing operating system, depending on the age of the puppy. Please give your puppy time to adjust - from its perspective, it has been kidnapped from its home and does not know that you are the world's best dog owners first seven to ten days no visitors!

If handled incorrectly, it is possible for it to develop characteristics that can be unfavorable.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Before purchasing your model, you realized that you were making several commitments. You have to ask your municipality as well as cantons, states or provinces for the relevant regulations.

In Germany and Switzerland, your puppy is subject to the Animal Welfare Act. You need to know about its parts like sensors, memory, longevity, unauthorized downloads, as well as hardware and software.

Energy supply, maintenance, possible hardware or software errors as well as inspection intervals must be taken care for appropriately to extend the warranty.

The breeder must provide your model with an identification chip, in many countries different tax rates apply. In Switzerland, liability insurance is mandatory, while the coverage varies from canton to canton.

Of course, you were purchasing the appropriate gadgets and devices before you got the puppy.

COLLAR AND LEASH

A dog does neither need jeweled collars, nor prong collars, pinch collars or e-collars! The only important thing is that the collar fits the puppy.

Do not use a chain collar for puppies. Opt for an adjustable one with enough space to hook the leash to. It should be that tight that you still can place one finger underneath it.

Bring the box to the breeder before picking up the pup. This way you take familiar scents home with you.

I recommend a fly kennel as the perfect bed. Dogs love to stay in a kind of cave where they feel snuggly and safe. You can take it with you while traveling and it is easy to clean.

In the event of an emergency, when you may need to leave and have no time to keep the house free of puppy-hazards, you have a cozy spot where your buddy is safe. It is a big-ticket buy, but you will have it forever.
