I stared at out the window next to my cubicle as I waited for time to pass by.  It had been a busy day but as it neared 5 P.M., things started to settle down quite a bit.  My phone buzzed to life and I looked down to see that it was my boyfriend.

"Hey Mark," I answered.

"Hey babe, you getting off work soon?"

"Yeah, give me another thirty minutes or so and I'll be heading out," I replied.

"Cool, cool, I'm heading out now.  You need me to pick you up?"

"No, I drove today.  Are we still on for tonight?"

"Yeah, just give me an hour to get ready and then we can hit up that club I was talking about."

I saw my manager walk by, briefly glancing at me as he headed into his office.  He had a brief look of annoyance as he paused in front of his office door.  I quickly put my phone down to the side, worried that he was going to tell me to stop any personal calls.

He scratched his chin, shook his head, and then headed into his office, closing the door behind him.  I breathed a sigh of relief and put my phone to my ear again.

"Hey, my boss just came back, I'll call you when I get home?"

"Huh?  Yeah, no problem," Mark replied.

For a brief moment, I thought I heard giggling but figured it was just my phone acting up.

See you later babe," he said.

"Okay," I replied as I hung up.

I wasn't sure how serious he thought the relationship was.  He had never said the coveted 'L' word, always managing to dance around it..  I'd spent a year with him but he still seemed slightly distant.  He had mentioned that he had just gotten out of a relationship when we first met, but I figured he would've been over it by now.

I glanced down at my computer's clock, wondering if time could speed up so I could go home.  A warm shower, maybe a nice cup of tea while I watched some TV; it all sounded so good.  After an hour of rest, I'd be able to go out with Mark, head out to a new club in town and dance the night away.

My manager's door opened and he stepped out while scratching his forehead.  As he walked by, he paused and looked over at me, confused.

"Why are you still here?"  He asked.

"Hm?  Well, it's not five yet," I replied.

"Oh please.  You all had a busy day, head on out," he said.

I heard my coworker stop typing and look up at our manager.  She glanced over at me, smiled and quickly started packing her things.

"Thanks Bob!"  I said as I shut down my computer.

"Have a great weekend," he said as he continue [...]
