Foreword

In this book, you will learn what can make you a more relaxed person. You will be provided with specialist knowledge and practical tips for everyday life that will help you to apply what you have learned to your life and be more relaxed in the long term.

You will learn what serenity actually means and what prevents people from being serene in today’s world. How can you best combat your everyday stress and how important is the environment and the serenity of your fellow human beings for you?

Serenity should be a big part of your life and, above all, a value. It enables you to overcome difficult situations and turn your back on the negative influences in your life. Your newly acquired serenity can also be a driving force for change in your life, whether it’s just changing the way you look at your life or optimizing your circumstances so you can lead a better life.

Serenity doesn’t mean that you don’t care about anything: it enables you to lead your life better and provide more clarity and reflection in your environment.

INTRODUCTION

Serenity is the ability to keep calm and look ahead even in difficult situations. With more serenity in your life, you see the world differently and realize you are in control. And even if there are situations and circumstances in your life in which this is not the case, you remain yourself and retain the upper hand. With serenity in your life, you can enjoy life. You say yes to new things and don’t despair at your everyday stress.

This book accompanies you through the world of serene living and shows you where you can optimize your life. Where are you too hard on yourself? Where do you see problems that could actually be challenges and changes? While many people are consumed by worries on a daily basis, serenity can ensure you stay true to yourself even in difficult situations and you an carry on with confidence.

With more serenity in your life, you can prevent stress, anxiety, depression, and burn-out syndrome. With it, you can manage to be satisfied with your life. Just the way it is. Live more calmly and draw strength from the serenity you learn through the practical exercises in this book.

Reflect on the people you surround yourself with and the influence they have on you. Reduce stress, anxiety, and expectations of yourself. Because with more serenity in your life, one thing will become clear to you: You are good the way you are.

GET TO KNOW YOURSELF BETTER

Many people go through life without really knowing themselves. This can be seen in various things: For example, they don’t know what is good for them, what they like and what they can do for themselves when they are having a bad day. In today’s fast-paced society, where the focus is on numbers, data and facts, a natural component is often forgotten: The human being.

People think they work like machines. It just needs to be oiled and then it continues. Maybe once you’ve hit the side like a snack machine in which the selected snack has gotten stuck and then it’ll be fine. But humans are not machines and are not only kept alive by their basic vegetative needs. Of course, we do also need to eat, drink and sleep.

But mental health should not be ignored here. Because it can determine whether a person functions or lives. That’s why this book focuses on your inner life. This does not mean your organs and blood vessels, but your consciousness, your feelings, and thoughts. Get to know yourself better and learn to listen to and understand yourself through the exercises.

SERENITY-YOU CAN LEARN IT

What is actually meant by serenity? Serenity is the ability to simply sit back and know you cannot control everything yourself. Those things happen and not everything is in your hands. But instead of looking at life indifferently or even realistically, you look at it with joy and rapture.

You focus benevolently and consciously on the beautiful things in life and learn something new every day. Serenity also does not mean looking down at the ground with resignation and not looking up again. You allow yourself to be inspired, enchanted, and amazed.

Serenity means curiosity, inner peace, and reflection. When you are calm, you know who you are, what you can and cannot do. You find ways out of difficult situations and learn to deal with them through your own mistakes.

But serenity is not an easy and quick state to achieve. If you want to become calm, you have to actively practice it and give yourself time. You have to set yourself the goal of becoming more relaxed and take steps to achieve this.

There are a few stumbling blocks along the way you have to overcome. For example, thinking that others have to be convinced of you and validate you with a positive opinion. As social creatures, humans have a need to please others.

But even if this leads to living in harmonious communities, this tendency can also have a negative impact on living together and on your own health. Because if you are always after the approval of others, you make yourself dependent on others. In this guide, you will learn how to free yourself from others. You will learn to let go and enjoy the little things again. Because serenity, even if it is difficult to achieve, can be learned.

START SMALL

People always want everything immediately. They always want to be able to do everything perfectly. Metaphorically, it could be compared to this: You see a cake that looks delicious and instead of trying a slice, you take half of it and put it on your plate. But can you do everything? Of course not. And you might even realize you would have preferred to try another one.

Serenity is not a cake, but even with it, it is easy to overextend yourself by piling too much onto your plate. So right at the start of your journey to serenity, remember it’s better to start small and not plunge into the deep end straight away.

This guide will give you lots of practical exercises you should try out bit by bit. Don’t overtax yourself and don’t take on too much, especially at the beginning. It is important to take a relaxed approach to everything when it comes to serenity. See this as your first exercise.

You start small and simple in order to have your first sense of achievement and not despair after the first failed attempt. At the beginning, it is therefore a good idea to spend a few minutes a day on the topic of serenity. However, don’t assume you will suddenly be one hundred percent calm in all areas of your life.

Start with small and simple things and pause again and again: How do I feel? Why do I feel like this? What can I do to feel better? If you want to take the right path to serenity in the long term, you shouldn’t overburden yourself. This is more likely to lead to even more stress.

LEARNING SOLUTIONS

Problems and difficult situations are normal parts of life. Instead of avoiding or ignoring them, you should look for solutions in a relaxed manner. Serenity is also about recognizing what you can and cannot change. So, if you have discovered something in your life that is not satisfying you, you can also ask: Can I change it? And if the answer is yes, you can start solving the problem.

But how do you solve problems and what types of solutions are there exactly? In the following chapters, you will get to know ways that will support you in solving problems and ultimately ensure you look at difficult situations with more confidence, discover their potential and have the right solution at hand.

Solving your personal and professional problems can also be approached either one way or the other. You can do this in a hectic, stressed, and desperate manner or you can be calm and allow yourself enough time to think and reflect. If you know how to solve your problems calmly and calmly, the result will be more satisfactory.

You have probably already realized after a hectic solution to an acute problem that you would have solved it better if you had approached the matter differently. Calmness is again the key word here: if you approach your problems calmly, you will discover hidden paths and other options.

HARMONY LIFE

Some people see life as a single struggle. A battle with themselves, with the environment or with other people.

But you can only achieve serenity if you let go of this idea of life and focus on another aspect of being. Only then will you become serene if you can live in harmony with yourself and others.

Harmony here does not only mean adapting, but also understanding how everything is connected. You can only see the world harmoniously if you take a step back and look around you. When you see not only the individual people and different locations, but also the network connecting them.

To achieve a state of inner peace, you also need a good dose of serenity. Only when you manage to leave your problems and worries behind you, even if it is only for a brief moment, can you live calmly, peacefully, and harmoniously.

Harmony also involves changing your focus and looking at things that are positive, things that are going well and things with potential. Even if today’s competitive society tends to look at things that are going wrong, looking at progress and successes can help us to recognize the great harmony of the world.

Harmony does not mean peace. Harmony does not assume everything works out and that everything is perfect. Harmony only assumes that the cogwheels of the environment and people can somehow fit together and regulate themselves. Don’t try to surround yourself with perfect things and a supposedly perfect world, but also look at the things that go wrong and pay attention to how they form a system with the other things.

THE JOY OF SMALL THINGS

At the same time, a harmonious view of the world also includes developing joy for the little things. Here it is important to slow down your own movements and take a minute in your stressful everyday life for those little things that were only visible in the corner of your eye as you rushed past them.
