Reminiscence

“Marie!” My little sister, Kina, hollered at me from the bottom of the stairs, “Andrew wants to meet at the Greenhouse, but Mum won’t let me go without you!”

“Kina, I’m writing!” I yelled back. “Tell him to meet later.”

“Now! Come on! Please?” She whined.

I grumbled, “Be there in a sec!” and rolled off my bed to throw on a pair of tennis shoes and a gray jacket before running after her. She, of course, had already left.

The Greenhouse was about five blocks from the apartment. It was a big building, located in the middle of the block with an inside that appeared to be even larger than the outside. It could house half a football field of people, but today held only a few crowds. The smell of foliage wafted from it.

“Where, exactly, did he say he was going to be?” I asked as Kina led me through groups of people and pass row after row of exotic flowers. The plant life flourished, with bundles of bright, colorful leaves reaching out to the people like their hands were the Sun incarnate.

“Somewhere by the back.” She murmured; her voice was barely audible.

“What?” I reached for her shoulder to turn her towards me. “Kina, speak, uh!” I grunted as I accidentally slammed into someone.

“I am so sorry.” We both said in unison. It was a young man, maybe four or five years older than me. He was wearing dirt smeared jeans and a black shirt with the neon Greenhouse logo across the front.

'He must work here.’ I thought as I looked up into his deep, moss green eyes. My heart pounded in my chest when I realized he was staring at me. First, he was super cute with black curly hair, long dark lashes, and a killer grin. Second, his eyes glinted with interest, and it made my blood tingle.
