Yasuní is a region located in the northeastern part of Ecuador. It currently consists of the Yasuní National Park and the Huaorani Intangible Zone, together covering an area of over one million hectares. It is one of the most biodiverse places in the world, a hotspot for plants and animals. Its high endemism suggests that it has been a refuge for life during Earth's glacial periods. Due to its biological importance, it was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1989.

To continue the study of its flora and fauna, two in situ research centers have been established. The first is the Tiputini Biodiversity Station, managed by the San Francisco University of Quito. In addition, the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador also manages the Yasuní Scientific Station. Both centers run study programs not only for Ecuadorian students but also for foreigners from prestigious universities in Europe and the United States.

Despite its importance for science, Yasuní is exposed to anthropogenic pressure from various fronts. On one hand, from the oil industry, interested in exploiting the oil beneath its soil. Water pollution from nearby oil block is a threat to the fragility of life in this ecosystem. On the other hand, the demand for tropical woods is an incentive to extract forest species that play an important ecological role, such as mahogany and laurel, which have taken a long time to develop.

In this context, this book of micro-stories aims to introduce young and old alike to the richness of the Ecuadorian jungle. It is the result of recalling the experiences lived in the Lorocachi military detachment, the study tour to the Tiputini station, and the tourist visit to the Cuyabeno lagoon, all of which the author of this work has undertaken at different stages of his life. It is hoped that it can encourage more people to have the opportunity to discover the beauty that this special place holds and contribute to its conservation.
