Erik and Brik were rich merchants who lived in a small town. They were brothers, running a brisk business. They also had a son each. Byre was Erik’s son and Jones was Brik’s son. The two sons were close like their fathers. They played and attended the school together.
But they were brothers were equally arrogant. In the name of money they showed their power. Folks didn’t like them for such unacceptable trait.
One day, Byre and Jones had a quarrel at school. Soon, the fight broke out, and they hurt each other. Erik and Brik were furious at each other’s sons. “Your son hurt my son,” said Erik.
“No, your son first hurt my son,” replied Brik.
“No, it’s your son!”
“It’s your damn son! I repeat, it’s your damn son!”
Their argument went beyond their control and used their force until folks separated them.
“Our business over!”
“Fine!”
They split the business. It went well but hatred and jealousy for each other grew stronger. There was a business fair in another town. Both attended. When one had customers, the other brother evied.
Erik invested all his money. He became richer than his brother. Jealous of his brother’s prosperity, Hrik spent all his money and became richer than his brother.
It never satisfied them. Both sold their properties and invested all the money on goods. Their ships capsized and lost their cargos. When Erik heard, he died of a heart attack. His brother, Hrik had a stroke and soon died. It left the two sons nothing but regrets.
