Heartbroken and cast aside, Luna tries to rebuild her life in the shadows. But she's hiding a secret that could change everything: she's pregnant with the Alpha's heir.
When the new Luna discovers the truth, Luna's life becomes a nightmare. Threatened with exile or worse, she has nowhere to turn. Until a dangerous stranger arrives with an offer that could save her... or destroy them all.
Alpha Kieran knows what it's like to be betrayed by the woman you love. When he sees Luna suffering the same fate, he's determined to help her fight back. But his plans for revenge might cost more than anyone is willing to pay.
As enemies close in and time runs out, Luna must choose: run and hide forever, or stand and fight for the life she wants. But fighting back means risking everything - her safety, her baby, and the love she never stopped feeling for the Alpha who broke her heart.
Some bonds can't be broken. Some loves are worth any price. And sometimes the greatest strength comes from refusing to give up on the future you deserve.
Will Luna find the courage to claim her rightful place? Or will the forces trying to destroy her succeed in tearing apart the pack she calls home?

LUNA
The silver moonlight painted everything in ethereal shades of platinum and shadow as I made my way through the forest clearing where our pack’s Moon Festival was in full swing. Tonight was different—I could feel it in the very marrow of my bones, in the way my wolf stirred restlessly beneath my skin, as if she knew something momentous was about to happen.
I paused at the edge of the festivities, watching my packmates dance around the ceremonial bonfire. The flames leaped high into the star-studded sky, casting flickering shadows that seemed to dance with a life of their own. The scent of roasted meat and honeyed mead filled the air, mingling with the natural perfume of night-blooming jasmine that grew wild throughout our territory.
“Luna!” My best friend Aria bounded up to me, her cheeks flushed with excitement and probably a cup or two of the pack’s special brew. “You’re missing all the fun! Elder Marcus just finished telling the story of the first Moon Festival, and now the unmated wolves are about to do the traditional dance.”
My stomach fluttered with nervous energy. The traditional dance—where unmated wolves of age would circle the fire, allowing the Moon Goddess to guide them toward their destined mates. I’d participated three times before, each time returning to my place among the crowd with no spark of recognition, no pull toward another soul.
“I don’t know, Aria,” I murmured, suddenly feeling self-conscious about the flowing white dress I’d chosen for tonight. It was simple but beautiful, with delicate silver embroidery that caught the firelight. “Maybe this isn’t my year either.”
Aria grabbed my hands, her brown eyes fierce with determination. “Don’t you dare give up hope. You’re twenty-two, Luna. The Moon Goddess has a plan for everyone, and I refuse to believe she’s forgotten about you.”
Before I could protest further, she was pulling me toward the circle of dancers. My heart hammered against my ribs as we joined the flowing movement around the fire. The drums beat a primal rhythm that seemed to sync with my pulse, and I closed my eyes, letting the ancient magic of the ritual wash over me.
That’s when it happened.
A scent hit me like a physical force—pine and leather and something uniquely masculine that made my wolf surge to attention within me. My eyes snapped open, and I found myself looking directly across the fire into the most beautiful pair of golden eyes I’d ever seen.
Alpha Nikolas.
The breath left my lungs in a rush. Time seemed to slow as we stared at each other across the dancing flames, and I felt something fundamental shift in the universe. This wasn’t possible. Nikolas was the Alpha—strong, commanding, breathtakingly handsome, and completely out of my league. He was twenty-five, already established in his leadership, and every unmated she-wolf in the pack had harbored secret dreams about him.
But there was no mistaking what I felt. The mate bond snapped into place between us like a golden thread, visible only to us, connecting our souls with an intensity that left me gasping. My wolf was practically purring with satisfaction, finally recognizing her other half.
Nikolas had stopped dancing entirely, his powerful frame going rigid as the realization hit him too. His nostrils flared slightly as he caught my scent, and I watched his eyes flash with the brief glimpse of his wolf rising to the surface. Even across the distance, I could see the shock and wonder written across his chiseled features.
The other dancers continued their circular movement around us, but it felt like we existed in our own private world. Slowly, deliberately, Nikolas began moving toward me, his gaze never leaving mine. Each step he took sent fresh waves of electricity through the bond, and by the time he reached me, I was trembling with the force of it.
“Luna,” he breathed, my name falling from his lips like a prayer. His voice was deeper than usual, roughened by emotion and the presence of his wolf so close to the surface.
“Alpha,” I whispered back, hardly believing this was real.
He reached out, his fingers barely grazing my cheek, but even that small touch sent sparks racing across my skin. “I can’t believe it’s you,” he murmured, his golden eyes searching my face as if he were trying to memorize every detail. “All this time, you were right here.”
The dancing had stopped around us now, and I was dimly aware of hushed whispers and excited murmurs from our packmates. But all of that faded into background noise as Nikolas cupped my face in his hands, his touch gentle despite the calluses earned from years of training and protection.
“The Moon Goddess has blessed us,” he said softly, his thumb tracing along my cheekbone. “You’re mine, Luna. My mate, my Luna.”
The word ‘Luna’ carried double meaning now—not just my name, but the title I would hold as his mate. The thought should have terrified me, but instead, it filled me with a sense of rightness that I’d never experienced before.
“And you’re mine,” I replied, the words coming from somewhere deep in my soul. “My Alpha, my mate.”
That’s when he kissed me.
The first touch of his lips against mine was gentle, reverent, as if he were afraid I might disappear if he moved too quickly. But when I melted into him, my hands fisting in the fabric of his shirt, he deepened the kiss with a growl that vibrated through his chest and into mine.
The world exploded into sensation. Every nerve ending came alive as our bond strengthened with each passing second. I could feel his emotions as if they were my own—wonder, joy, possessiveness, and a love so fierce it took my breath away. Through our new connection, I sensed his wolf’s absolute satisfaction at finally finding his mate, and I felt my own wolf settle into a contentment I’d never known was possible.
When we finally broke apart, both breathing heavily, the entire pack had gathered around us in a loose circle. But instead of feeling exposed or embarrassed, I felt cherished, protected by the strength of the man whose arms were now wrapped securely around me.
“My pack,” Nikolas called out, his voice carrying the authority of his Alpha status, “the Moon Goddess has blessed us tonight. Luna is my mate, your future Luna, and I couldn’t be prouder to call her mine.”
The cheer that went up from the assembled wolves was deafening. I was swept into a whirlwind of congratulations and well-wishes, but through it all, Nikolas never let go of my hand. His presence was a steady anchor in the chaos of excitement, and every few moments, he would squeeze my fingers or brush a kiss against my temple, as if he needed the physical reminder that this was real.
Elder Marcus approached us with tears in his aged eyes. “Alpha, Luna,” he said formally, but his voice was warm with genuine happiness. “The pack has waited long for this day. May the Moon Goddess bless your union with strength, wisdom, and many pups to carry on our legacy.”
“Thank you, Elder,” Nikolas replied, his arm tightening around my waist. “We are honored by the Moon Goddess’s gift.”
As the celebration continued around us, Nikolas guided me away from the crowd toward a quieter area at the edge of the clearing. The sounds of laughter and music followed us, but here, surrounded by ancient oak trees and bathed in moonlight, we could speak without shouting over the festivities.
“I still can’t quite believe this is happening,” I admitted, looking up at him through my lashes. “This morning I was just Luna, the pack’s librarian who helps with the children’s education. Now I’m…”
“Now you’re my everything,” he finished, pulling me closer until there was no space left between us. “Luna, I need you to know—I’ve been watching you for months, wondering what it was about you that drew my attention. The way you are with the pups, so patient and kind. How you care for the elderly pack members, making sure they have everything they need. Your strength isn’t loud or flashy, but it runs deeper than anyone realizes.”
My heart swelled at his words. “You noticed me?”
“How could I not?” His hand found mine, threading our fingers together. “You light up every room you enter, even if you don’t realize it. My wolf has been restless for weeks, and now I understand why. He was searching for you.”
The sincerity in his voice brought tears to my eyes. “I love you,” I whispered, the words spilling out before I could stop them. “I know it’s too soon to say that, but I feel like I’ve been waiting my whole life for you without even knowing it.”
“It’s not too soon,” he assured me, his free hand coming up to brush away a tear that had escaped down my cheek. “The mate bond doesn’t lie, Luna. What we feel is real, and it’s forever. I love you too, with everything I am.”
He kissed me again, slower this time, savoring the connection between us. When we parted, his forehead rested against mine, and we simply breathed together in the peaceful silence.
“What happens now?” I asked softly.
“Now we plan our future,” he replied, his voice full of promise. “Our mating ceremony, our life together, the family we’ll build. You’ll need to learn the duties of a Luna, but I’ll be with you every step of the way. We’ll face everything together.”
“A mating ceremony,” I repeated, my cheeks warming at the thought. “When?”
“As soon as we can arrange it properly,” he said with a grin that made my heart skip. “I want the whole pack to witness our union, to celebrate the gift the Moon Goddess has given us. But not too long—I don’t think I can wait much longer to call you my wife in every sense of the word.”
The heat in his eyes made my stomach flutter with anticipation and nervousness. “Nikolas…”
“I know, my love,” he murmured, reading my expression perfectly. “We’ll take things at your pace. I would never pressure you. But know that every instinct I have is screaming at me to claim you, to make sure every wolf in the territory knows you’re mine.”
“I am yours,” I said firmly, surprised by my own boldness. “And you’re mine. Forever.”
“Forever,” he agreed, sealing the promise with another kiss.
As we made our way back to the celebration, hand in hand, I felt like I was walking on air. The impossible had happened—the Moon Goddess had blessed me with a mate who was not only the strongest, most respected wolf in our pack, but also the kindest, most honorable man I’d ever known.
The pack welcomed us back with renewed cheers and toasts to our future. Nikolas introduced me to visiting Alphas and important pack members as his mate and future Luna, his pride evident in every word. Throughout the night, he never left my side, his hand constantly touching me—on my back, holding my hand, around my waist—as if he couldn’t bear to be separated even by inches.
As the moon reached its zenith and began its descent toward dawn, the celebration finally began to wind down. But even as the last embers of the bonfire glowed softly in the darkness, I knew that this night had changed everything. This was the beginning of the rest of my life, and it was more beautiful than anything I’d ever dared to dream.
Little did I know that in just a few short weeks, this perfect happiness would be shattered beyond repair, and the man who held my heart so tenderly would be forced to break it into a thousand pieces.
NIKOLAS
The morning sun filtered through the windows of my office, casting golden rays across the mahogany desk where I’d been attempting to review territory reports for the past hour. But concentration was impossible when my mind kept drifting to the incredible woman who was now mine in every way that mattered.
Luna. My mate. My future Luna.
Even thinking her name sent waves of satisfaction through my wolf, who had been practically preening since last night’s discovery. After twenty-five years of waiting, wondering if I’d ever find my other half, the Moon Goddess had blessed me beyond measure.
A soft knock at my door interrupted my thoughts. “Come in,” I called, straightening in my chair.
“Alpha?” Beta Marcus stepped inside, a knowing grin playing at his lips. “The pack elders are requesting a meeting to discuss the mating ceremony arrangements.”
I couldn’t suppress my own smile. “Already? It’s barely past dawn.”
“Well, sir, finding one’s mate is cause for celebration, especially when that mate will become our Luna. Elder Catherine is practically vibrating with excitement about the planning.” Marcus’s expression grew more serious. “Also, there are some territorial matters that require your attention, but those can wait if you’d prefer to focus on more… personal matters today.”
Personal matters. Like the fact that I was supposed to meet Luna in an hour to begin her introduction to Luna duties, and I could barely contain my eagerness to see her again. The mate bond hummed constantly between us now, a golden thread that let me sense her emotions even across the packhouse.
Right now, she was nervous but excited, probably getting ready for our meeting.
“Schedule the elders for this afternoon,” I decided. “And yes, push the territorial reports to tomorrow. Today belongs to my mate.”
Marcus nodded approvingly. “Congratulations again, Alpha. Luna will make an excellent Luna. The pack already adores her.”
After he left, I found myself staring out the window toward the small cottage where Luna lived with her adoptive family. She’d been orphaned young when rogues attacked a nearby pack, and the Nightcreek wolves who’d found her had taken her in without question. She’d grown up here, become one of us completely, but I knew she sometimes still felt like an outsider.
Not anymore. Now she was exactly where she belonged—by my side.
My wolf stirred restlessly, wanting to go to her immediately, but I forced myself to finish reviewing the security reports. As Alpha, I couldn’t completely abandon my duties, even for the most important person in my world.
When the time finally came, I practically jogged to Luna’s cottage, my heart racing with anticipation. I knocked gently, and when the door opened to reveal her beautiful face, I felt that now-familiar jolt of electricity that came with seeing my mate.
“Good morning, beautiful,” I murmured, unable to resist reaching out to tuck a strand of her dark hair behind her ear.
Luna’s cheeks flushed pink, but she smiled radiantly. “Good morning, Alpha.”
“Nikolas,” I corrected gently. “When we’re alone, you never have to use my title. You’re my equal now, Luna. My partner in everything.”
“It’s going to take some getting used to,” she admitted, stepping aside to let me in. “Yesterday I was just Luna who helps with the children’s reading lessons. Today I’m supposed to become the pack’s Luna.”
I caught her hands in mine, bringing them to my lips to press soft kisses to her knuckles. “You don’t become anything, love. You already are everything you need to be. The pack has seen your kindness, your strength, your dedication to our community. They chose you long before the Moon Goddess revealed you as my mate.”
“Really?” Her voice was small, uncertain.
“Really.” I pulled her closer, breathing in her sweet scent—vanilla and wildflowers, with the underlying warmth that was uniquely hers. “Do you know what Elder Catherine told me this morning? She said she’s been hoping for months that you would be the one the Moon Goddess chose for me.”
Luna’s eyes widened. “She did?”
“She did. And she wasn’t the only one.” I smiled at her expression. “Luna, you’ve been taking care of this pack’s heart without even realizing it. The children adore you, the elders seek your comfort when they’re struggling, and even the warriors respect your quiet strength. You were born to be Luna—my Luna.”
She stood on her tiptoes to kiss me, and I melted into the sweet contact, my arms wrapping around her waist to pull her flush against me. The mate bond sang between us, and I could feel her trust, her love, her growing confidence through our connection.
“So,” she said when we broke apart, slightly breathless, “what does a Luna-in-training do on her first day?”
I grinned. “First, she meets with the current Luna to learn the traditional duties. Then she gets introduced to the pack officially, if she’s ready for that.”
“The current Luna?” Luna looked confused. “But your mother passed away years ago.”
“Elder Catherine has been filling the role in an unofficial capacity,” I explained. “She’ll teach you everything you need to know about managing pack affairs, settling disputes, organizing ceremonies—all the things that keep our community running smoothly.”
We walked hand in hand toward the main packhouse, and I couldn’t help but notice how perfectly Luna fit against my side. She was tall for a she-wolf, but still had to look up to meet my eyes, and something primal in me was deeply satisfied by the size difference. My wolf preened at how well-suited we were physically, mentally, emotionally.
“Nervous?” I asked as we approached the main building.
“Terrified,” she admitted with a laugh. “But in a good way, I think. Like standing at the edge of a cliff before jumping into deep water.”
“I’ll catch you if you fall,” I promised, squeezing her hand.
“I know you will.”
Elder Catherine was waiting for us in the main sitting room, her weathered face creased with genuine joy. At seventy-three, she was one of our pack’s most respected members, a widow who had served as Luna for thirty years before her mate’s passing.
“Luna, dear child,” she said warmly, rising to embrace my mate. “I cannot tell you how thrilled I am. When I saw you both at the Moon Festival last night, my heart nearly burst with happiness.”
“Thank you, Elder Catherine,” Luna replied, though I could sense her nervousness through our bond. “I hope I can live up to your expectations.”
“Nonsense.” Catherine waved a dismissive hand. “You’ve been preparing for this role your entire life without knowing it. Now, Nikolas, go handle whatever Alpha business is demanding your attention. Luna and I have much to discuss.”
I was reluctant to leave my mate, but I knew she needed this time to learn and grow into her new role. I pressed a lingering kiss to her temple, whispering, “I’ll see you for lunch. And remember, I’m just a mind-link away if you need me.”
Luna nodded, her smile brave despite the anxiety I could feel through our bond. “Go be an Alpha. I’ll be here learning how to be your Luna.”
The next few hours passed in a blur of meetings and paperwork, but my attention was constantly divided. Through our mate bond, I could feel Luna’s emotions shifting from nervousness to fascination to determination as Catherine taught her about pack management, conflict resolution, and ceremonial duties.
When lunch time arrived, I practically ran to find them. They were in Catherine’s private garden, surrounded by herbs and flowering plants, deep in conversation about the upcoming harvest festival.
“—and the families with new babies always receive the first blessing,” Catherine was explaining as I approached. “It’s been tradition for over a century.”
“That makes sense,” Luna replied thoughtfully. “New life should be celebrated and protected above all else.”
“Exactly!” Catherine beamed. “You understand instinctively what many take years to learn.”
I cleared my throat to announce my presence, and both women looked up. Luna’s face lit up when she saw me, and I felt the mate bond pulse with her happiness.
“How’s the first lesson going?” I asked, settling on the stone bench beside Luna.
“Wonderfully,” Catherine answered before Luna could speak. “Your mate has excellent instincts, Nikolas. She asks thoughtful questions and truly cares about the welfare of pack members. She’ll make a magnificent Luna.”
Luna blushed at the praise, but I could feel her growing confidence through our bond. “Catherine has been incredibly patient with all my questions.”
“That’s what I’m here for, dear. Now, I believe you two have an announcement to make to the pack this afternoon?”
My stomach jumped with excitement. “If Luna feels ready.”
Luna looked at me, her eyes searching mine. Through our bond, I felt her moment of doubt followed by fierce determination. “I’m ready. These people are my family, and they deserve to know that their Alpha has found his mate.”
Pride swelled in my chest. “Then let’s go claim our future.”
The pack had gathered in the main hall, word having spread quickly about the official announcement. As Luna and I entered together, a hush fell over the assembled wolves. I could sense their curiosity, their excitement, their genuine affection for both of us.
“My pack,” I began, my voice carrying clearly through the large room. “Yesterday, the Moon Goddess blessed us all with a gift beyond measure. She revealed my fated mate, and I couldn’t be prouder to present Luna officially as your future Luna.”
The cheers that erupted were deafening. Pack members surged forward to offer congratulations, and I watched with growing amazement as Luna gracefully accepted each well-wisher with warmth and genuine gratitude.
Little Tommy, one of the children she taught, tugged on her dress. “Miss Luna, does this mean you’ll still read to us?”
Luna knelt to his level, her smile radiant. “Of course I will, Tommy. Being Luna just means I’ll have even more opportunities to take care of everyone I love.”
The simple sincerity of her response had several pack members wiping away tears, and I fell in love with her all over again.
As the afternoon wore on, we moved through the packhouse together, and I introduced Luna to wolves she hadn’t met, discussed pack business that would now be her concern too, and watched her natural leadership qualities shine through every interaction.
By evening, as we sat together on the front porch of my—our—house, watching the sunset paint the sky in brilliant oranges and purples, I felt more content than I ever had in my life.
“Thank you,” Luna said softly, her head resting on my shoulder.
“For what?”
“For making me feel like I belong. Like I was always meant to be here, with you, leading beside you.”
I pressed a kiss to the top of her head, breathing in her sweet scent. “You were always meant to be here, love. The Moon Goddess doesn’t make mistakes.”
“I love you, Nikolas,” she whispered. “More than I ever thought possible.”
“And I love you, Luna. Forever and always.”
As the first stars began to appear in the darkening sky, I held my mate close and made a silent vow to the Moon Goddess. I would protect this woman with my life, love her with everything I had, and spend every day proving myself worthy of the incredible gift I’d been given.
I would never let anything tear us apart.
Never.
