 LETTER FROM THE PRESIDING BISHOP

Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord,

To God, be the glory for the great things He has done. Thank God for the wonderful gift of life. Through so much transition and rapid change, we are still here to enjoy another beautiful summer season. I submit to you that God is not finished with you yet. God has something utterly amazing in store for you, your family, and your ministry. For that reason, I challenge you to remain encouraged and focused on your life and the prospects of the Kingdom of God. In such a time as this, with so much vying for your time and attention, please do not lose your passion for God. These times in which we live can challenge our faith and trust in God that things will get better, but whatever you do remember, our God can do anything but fail. I am confident this summer’s quarter and these powerful and timely lessons will serve you well as you continue to navigate this tumultuous climate. May this Church Of God In Christ Christian education material keep the fire burning in you for passionate and anointed ministry.

Saints of God, as you study these lessons, please remember that Jehovah is counting on you. He has invested much in us through the power of the Holy Spirit. And He is using us to make an impactful difference in our society and sphere of influence. As you study these lessons, I believe God has already put a word in your mouth that is transformative. Who knows whether God has brought you through COVID-19 and to this summer for such a time as this? The world needs us! The great German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, “The church is her true self only when she exists for humanity.” Indeed, let’s be our true selves, take our communities for Jesus Christ, and put the devil to flight. May you and your ministry be a threat to the devil’s kingdom, and may he suffer many defeats because of the Christ in you who is the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).

Please be assured that the Church Of God In Christ is alive and well, and on the cutting edge of ministry in this 21st century. To that end, you must encourage any of our COGIC brothers and sisters who do not already subscribe to the Church Of God In Christ Publishing House curriculum to order our products. They are assured that the product lines up with the doctrine of our Church. There is an anointing upon this great Church that makes clear the hand of God on us, to do great things in these last and evil days. The Church Of God In Christ has not lost its identity and is, I believe, an integral part of the fabric of America. That is why it is so important to keep your Church exposed to our literature, as well as our young people. It is timely, fresh, innovative, and relevant. To God be all the glory. My sincere prayer is that as you study this material, the Holy Spirit minister’s life into you and everything important to you. May the blessings and favor of God be upon you and yours in the matchless name of Jesus Christ.

“Now unto Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20,21 NKJV).

For the kingdom,

Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr.

Presiding Bishop

Church Of God In Christ

Seventh In Succession

THE

WORLD MISSIONS CHALLENGE

The Gospel of Mark is presumed to be the first Gospel written. It is demonstrably the shortest. The pace of the narrative is torrid, and the events seem to occur in a rapid-fire procession. In this document, Jesus is portrayed as a man on a mission, in perpetual motion—and we can barely catch our breath as we follow along with His story.

Therefore, it is not a surprise that the overall theme of the book is extremely focused. The author wants to explore the identity of this Man, Jesus. Principally, Mark wants to examine His roles as the Messiah (through the first half of the gospel) and as the Suffering Servant (through the second half). Mark is determined to get many perspectives: the testimony of His family, His followers, His critics, the bystanders in the crowd, even the demons at one extreme, and God the Father at another. It seems at times that everyone has an opinion about Jesus’ true identity, but obviously, some voices are more trustworthy than others.

In our lesson series this quarter, we will ask, “Who is this Jesus?” Is He a healer? Is He a deliverer? Is He a carpenter or a prophet? Is He a blasphemer, or is He divine? We will follow the evidence. And we will confirm, through the wonderful word of God, all that Jesus claimed to be in our lives and the life of the Church. Get ready, Saints, for an incredible journey!

Yours in Christ,

Elder Joseph W. Gill
