Beschreibung

This is not a comprehensive guide book telling you where to go and what to see. It does not have pretty pictures. It is a guide on how you should act and behave in Thailand. It is written in a truthful way and sometimes a little hard. People come to Thailand with the Wrong Attitude. Thailand is not the western world, but it is a beautiful place with beautiful people. You just need to open your eyes and mind.

Wrong Attitude

A brief guide to living and visiting Thailand

To a place I call homeBookRix GmbH & Co. KG80331 Munich

Introduction

I have been coming to Thailand since the year 2000 and for 5 of those years I have been living and working in Thailand. Over all of these years the one constant thing I hear is the complaining from foreigners about Thailand. So this is a layman’s guide to living and enjoying yourself in this beautiful country.

I am an Englishman 52 years old. I have been married to my Thai wife for 8 years and we have been together for 10 years. In all of those 10 years we have never spent more than 3 months actually living together. Why and how? You may ask. Simple really, I lived and worked in England for the first 5 years of our relationship, my wife works, has a home and daughter in Thailand and I was not going to up root her knowing that I would eventually live here. Since moving here and becoming a teacher, my job is never guaranteed as a permanent thing and I could move every year so again I am not going to turn her into a gypsy just to suit my needs. How does it work? Easy, trust and communication, we talk and discuss everything first, weigh up the pro’s and con’s and make a joint decision, we talk at least 3 a day on the phone and when we are together we make the most of the time we can. My wife is not an ex-bar girl (not that I have anything against bar girls), she is a country girl who has had to make the best of the life dealt to her and has done remarkably well.

Why am I writing this book? Basically because I am pissed off with foreigners coming here and slagging off Thailand because it does not fit in with their western values. Thailand is not western it’s in South East Asia and has a totally different culture to what you may believe or expect in. This book will try to explain some of these differences and suggest ways that foreigners can enjoy their time or life here and embrace the people of Thailand and all their little quirks.

Always remember that if you are in Thailand or any other country as a tourist or ex-pat? You are a guest in that country, you are not king, emperor, queen or conqueror. Leave your western attitude in your own country and open your mind, eyes and hearts to the journey you are having.

I would like to state that whilst some of this book looks as though it’s throwing Thai people in a bad light, it’s not meant to. Every nation in the world has the same problems and possibly the same traits as the Thais but just show it in a different light. I am using my own experiences here or experiences of other people I know to be true.

I would also like to state that I love Thailand and the Thai people; they are kind, caring, warm, loving and generous people. I hate the way some foreigners come to Thailand and look down on the Thais or treat them like shit. You get what you sow and if that is going to be your attitude, don’t complain when you get scammed or taken for a sucker. The Thais as with other South East Asian nations are a lot smarter than most of you think and a lot more decent than most western nations ever could be.
