The boundary between fiction and reality is somewhat blurred in her books, and her warm, fluid writing provides readers with a glimpse of her inner self. However, de Vigan remains modest and reserved and has little taste for the media exposure that has accompanied her professional success. In addition to her career as a novelist, she also has a passion for film: several of her novels have been adapted for the cinema, and in 2014 she directed her first feature-length film, À coup sûr.

Within this novel, which has many of the features of a psychological thriller, the author raises questions about the duality of the writer and the legitimacy of fiction within literature.
