Preface

Since the first edition of the ABC of Urology was written 15 years ago there have been fundamental changes in the way that Urology is practiced. It seems to us that things change ever more quickly and the last 5 years has seen particularly rapid change.

Such change has led to the production of the 3rd edition of the ABC of Urology.

The remit of the book remains the same as when it was originally conceived; to inform and educate trainees in surgery, nursing and staff in other disciplines about the latest developments in Urology. The book remains a valuable introduction to the field of Urology and will be useful for surgeons in training for the MRCS.

To this extent we are very pleased to have co-opted leading Urology specialists to write chapters for this book.

All of the chapters have been revised and there have been major additions, particularly in laparoscopy, and in the addition of separate chapters on Management of Haematuria, and Penile Cancer. All of the cancer chapters have been extensively re-written and provide a current and comprehensive guide to management.

We are indebted to the staff of Wiley; without their help and patience this book would not have been written.
