Why E-books for the Kindle?
Another thing you're probably thinking is why you're required to develop an e-book for Kindle and not for any other e-book reader. Here are your responses, backed up by cold, hard facts and data from a 2010 news item including an interview with Jeff Bezos, Amazon's CEO and founder.
• Kindle unit sales have tripled since Amazon cut the price to $189 from $259, implying an increase in potential readers for your e-books.
• Total Kindle e-book sales tripled from the first six months of 2009 to the first six months of 2010; this indicates that all those new Kindle owners are also actively purchasing e-books.
• For every 100 hardcover prints sold on Amazon, 143 Kindle e-books are sold. When a monthly timeframe is used, Amazon really sells 183 Kindle-ebooks for every 100 hardcover prints sold.
• Amazon began selling hardcover books over 15 years ago, but only began selling Kindle e-books forty-plus months ago; this means that seven generations of today (the income-earning generation!) are yours to target!
Nota bene: Amazon carefully states that their hardcover sales are continuing to grow. It just so happens that Kindle sales are expanding at a faster rate.
Therefore, if you want to expand your writing career into print publishing, there is money to be made – but it will be more difficult to earn.
Apple's iPad did not destroy Kindle, much to the dismay of many news journalists who, for months following the iPad's 2010 introduction, joyfully predicted Kindle's demise in Steve Jobs' hands.
