Double Your Income

Tahitian beer in hand, relaxing on the beach at an exclusive resort in Bora Bora with a dozen great friends, I pulled out my phone to check my e-mail.

“Congratulations, Ty, your $25,000 Fast Track check is being mailed today.”

Then I realized that the $25,000 check was only part of my income for the month, and here I was taking eight days off at one of the most exclusive resorts in the world.

My home for the week was a 1,100-square-foot bungalow sitting over crystal clear turquoise water. I calculated that the bungalow was roughly 200 square feet bigger than the first home my wife and I owned as newlyweds.

Apparently 85-degree weather makes me want to do math because while sitting under the umbrella, gazing across the bluest water I have ever seen, I also calculated that I had worked somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 hours in the previous month. Not 40 hours per week, but 40 hours total for the month.

I was working less but getting paid more in the misunderstood industry of network marketing.

But it wasn’t always like that.

Time seemed to stop for a moment as I reflected on my early struggles in the network marketing industry. My biggest check in my first five years was $1,200, and I spent more than $1,000 that month on seminars and training, leaving me a net, grand total of $200 in my very best month.

I started to think about what separated our success from those who tried and failed, and I realized that it really came down to one thing.

We never gave up.

I believe that you already possess the talent that it takes to double your income in the next 24 months, and this book will provide you with the strategy and techniques you’ll need.

You will need to bring focus, ambition, and a willingness to learn.

There will be times when you feel like you are getting nowhere, fast.

Robert Kiyosaki said, “. . . what makes people rich is not the money. What makes people rich are skills.”

If you develop (and apply) the right skills, the money will come.

My friend and mentor, Bo Short, puts it this way: “It’s not just doing the right things; it’s doing enough of the right things that will bring you success.”

There is an old question/riddle that helps illustrate this point: Would you rather have a million dollars in cash or a penny doubled every day for 30 days?

Of course, most people will think that this must be a trick question and lean toward the penny doubled, but at the same time, they salivate over the million dollars in cash.

On day 7, the guy who took the million dollars in cash is probably driving around town in his new Ferrari, whereas the “penny-doubled” guy has a whopping 64 cents in his pocket.

Day 14, penny-doubled guy has $81.92. He might be able to buy dinner and a movie if he scrimps on the dinner and skips the popcorn at the movie theater. Meanwhile, “million-in-cash” guy is inviting people over to his new home for a hot tub party.

Day 21 comes and penny-doubled guy looks like an idiot because he has only $10,485.76. At this point we are about 75 percent of the way to the finish line and this guy has $989,000.00 less than the million-in-cash guy. Ouch.

But something crazy happens on day 28. Penny-doubled guy now has $1,342,177.28, passing million-in-cash guy for the first time.

On day 30, million-in-cash guy is crying because penny-doubled guy now has more than $5 million, five times the million dollars he took.

The riddle is a lesson in patience and perseverance.

Six months into starting his business, Beach Money author Jordan Adler was making less than $100 per month.

A full two years into launching, Adler was making $1,350 a month; yet a year later he passed $20,000 per month.

Today, Adler earns in excess of $1 million a year, all while taking more than 10 weeks off to vacation in Europe and the Caribbean and spend time on his personal development.

Jordan Adler and I are with different companies, but our stories are very similar.

We struggled but never quit.

There was one thing that kept us both going: the amazing power of having a dream.

Your Dreams and Goals

When I was in kindergarten, I spent a lot of time playing with Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. My memory of playing with my buddies Johnny and Tyler are vivid, even today, 35 years later.

Every day started out the same; we would take out our favorite cars and park them in the garage that we had built into the side of our rockery. The driveway up to our makeshift mansion of sticks and rocks was long, and Johnny, Tyler, and I dreamed of being rich. I’m not sure we knew what a millionaire was at that age, but in our little Matchbox dream, we were wealthy.
