Now, it’s not alien for human beings to seek love or connections and purpose. We’re subconsciously drawn to one another—we want to be wanted. We long to feel acceptance and to be held in high regard by our peers and loved ones. But when that comfort zone is jeopardized or removed entirely, not all of us are emotionally equipped to deal with the chasm that arises. It’s a learned belief that solitude is wrong, programmed into us from day one. Loneliness equates to unhappiness. However, I ask: Is it truly better to accept displeasing and one-sided relationships? Is it right for you to fear your own company, living with a dependency on others to validate your worth? If you’re ever to experience true contentment and view yourself independently as a whole, stop looking outwards and start focusing inwards.
The process will not be easy or quick, and change doesn’t occur overnight. With patience, commitment, and resolve, you can rid yourself of codependency. The impulses will never be fully gone; poor habits and relapses are likely to surface. But these are all part of your recovery; they’re challenges my book will help you to conquer.
