Human Design came into my life at a time when I was done. Done trying so hard, done justifying my “business” (yes, those quotation marks are well earned,) and done with the hustle. I was seriously considering a j-o-b. My marriage was suffering, my finances were a mess, and I was in a dark place emotionally.

I have been an entrepreneur pretty consistently since 2004. I’d done the in-person business thing, from massage therapist to yoga studio owner, with a few stops along the way to places my three profile line took me that I don’t talk about. Then… covid. In the beginning, I tried, like all studios, to get online and pivot towards an online hybrid model, including coaching. I finally admitted that I was DONE, despite hiring the coaches, purchasing the online courses, and following all the right people on social.

Then, like a breath of fresh air, Human Design came into my awareness. It wasn’t the first time I’d heard about it. It was just the first time it stuck. I dove into it with everything I had. Human Design is an experiment. You learn about a specific energy and then figure out how it works for you. As you explore your energy, be kind to yourself. No one operates at gift frequency all the time. The shadow is where growth is. This book is about learning to love and lead your dance between shadow and gift energy.

Mastering the defined energy in your chart is a beautiful, lifelong journey that evolves with you. It requires a commitment to contemplating your energy and admitting when you’re allowing yourself to be the victim. I show you how to work with and leverage your unique gifts in this book. My approach is a blend of Gene Keys by Richard Rudd and Human Design by Ra Uru Hu. I suggest you pick up “The Gene Keys” by Richard Rudd, as his perspective on the gates is in-depth and positions each gate as having a shadow, gift, and Siddi (spiritual) expression. Looking at your energy from this perspective is the best way to assess your unique energetic blueprint's shadow and gift patterns. The work is to learn to shift between the two consciously. The Siddi frequency happens spontaneously, so you don’t have to do anything about it, but there is much you can do to shift from shadow into gift.

This book is for the entrepreneur who is already familiar with the basic concepts of Human Design and wants to take their work deeper. It requires that you work with your baseline energy of strategy, authority, and energy type daily. It’s how you learn how to use and leverage your energetic strengths. When you align with your energy, you can show up in your life and business intentionally and powerfully.

This book is not at a beginner level. If you’re new to Human Design, check out the first book in this series “Human Design for Coaches and Course Creators” to learn how to work with your baseline energy. The energy I talk about in this book is for fine-tuning your design. If you aren’t already using Strategy and Authority to align yourself in a more general sense, none of this will make a difference. You need to be familiar with how your individual energetics work and flow in your life.

When you start to unpack the specific energy of your chart, it can be distracting and overwhelming. I recommend taking it slow. Pick one element to reflect on at a time. If it feels like you are trying too hard, it will draw you out of flow and alignment, not towards it. When you feel like you’re efforting or pushing, pause. You might need to spend a little more time where you are to integrate what you’ve learned about that part of you. This book explores how to work with your existing energy to bring in clients, money, sales and whatever you are trying to create with your business. When you are able to consciously work with your energy, you’ve found your business mojo.

Human Design is not a business development tool. Its roots are in personal and spiritual development. That’s how I got into Human Design in the first place. I have been a personal development junkie since about the time I could read. When I became an entrepreneur, personal development and business development concepts blended. The times when there was the greatest ease in business coincided with when I felt like I was in flow with my spirit.

I see trends in the business coaching world that swing between Strategy and Energy. I have yet to find a good balance between them in any book, course, or program I’ve taken. What I found in my journey is that it was creating burnout to try to be both the perfect “CEO” with the perfect funnel and marketing and do all the “spiritual” and mindset work.

I’m a Manifesting Generator. My energy type is efficient. We find the shortcuts that work. I’m also a 3-5 profile, so I find all the shortcuts that don’t work through my process of experimentation. I help entrepreneurs align to their energy to create the strategy and structure that will work. I currently offer a VIP day that is a deep dive into your individual energetics and strategy. It isn’t your typical “unpack” session. The first part is about your Human Design and how to work with your specific energy. Human Design works with business because you are the niche. The more clearly you can express your authentic self, the more you will draw clients to your message and offers. There are two components of this:

Aligning to your individual energetic expression. The definition in your chart and energy type are examples of the energy you want to align to. A majority of this work creates awareness around when and how you are making decisions and utilizing your strategy and authority. This creates flow. Once you are in flow, you can explore the more specific elements of your energy, like the things I discuss in this book. It’s important to remember that you don’t have to do or fix anything about yourself. It is a reflective practice that allows you to explore how to use your energy best. It’s not about changing yourself to be better at something. It’s about bringing your thoughts, beliefs, actions, and your business's external elements into alignment with how your natural energy wants to express itself.Removing resistance to your natural energy. We all pick up conditioning from society, families, and communities. Anytime you’re acting in a way you think you “should” indicates that you are operating from conditioning, not your authentic self. Identifying and reflecting on how you have conditioned responses is how you remove the resistance to your natural flow. This book is more about exploring your defined energy. I will be releasing another book in this series in late 2022 called “The Feminine Side of Human Design”, where I dive deep into conditioning, shadow work, and wounds that affect how we do life and business.

I learned about Human Design (by Ra Uru Hu) simultaneously as Gene Keys (by Richard Rudd.) Rudd was a student of Ra Uru Hu, and he put his spin on the original Human Design system. I use them nearly interchangeably, and it is hard to separate the two concepts. If you’re a fundamentalist who views these as separate concepts and systems (which they are but are so complimentary that I find it hard not to blend them), my interpretation is likely not for you. If you’re good with my melting pot approach, read on!

I first learned about Fractals while studying my chart in Gene Keys. The 44thKey (Synonymous with gate in Human Design) introduces us to the concept that there are endlessly repeating patterns in natural systems, including human interactions. When the universe was born at the time of the Big Bang, three energy frequencies emerged from the compressed energy. This is not just Rudd’s interpretation of fractals, it comes from Chaos theory, which for the most part is well beyond my understanding, so I take Richard at his word that it is grounded in science.

So, now we have these three core frequencies wrapping around each other, creating infinitely repeating patterns of things, people, and circumstances that match their frequency. Every being and object in the universe carries a shard of one of these original three fractals. At some point (again, chaos theory is not my thing, so I’m a little squishy on how this happened), these fractals began to divide and became 144 000 different expressions of the three core energies. If you’re interested in a more detailed account of fractals, look it up in Richard Rudd’s The Gene Keys, pages 341-347.

Your chart gives you a roadmap of how your energy wants to express. It is how you align yourself to the frequency of your fractal. People who share your fractal will automatically be drawn to you and your offers when you align to your natural energy. Money will find its way to you in weird and wonderful ways. Human Design teaches us how to remove the resistance to expressing our true self.

This book series is a good example of using my natural energy in business. I’ve always loved writing and know it’s one of my strengths. But, I kept hearing things (from coaches, people I follow on social media, and courses) that a book funnel only works if you have a massive following and are a proven authority in your field. I listened to this for a long time rather than what my strategy told me. One day, I got the urge to write, and this time I let it go where it led. Before you know it, I had 60 000 words and climbing. I’m a Generator type, so I kept following what my authority told me to respond to, and I had the first self-published book completed and the other two 90% done.

Then I moved on to other things and forgot about it. I still had the unconscious beliefs operating that a book is a terrible way to make money in a spiritual business, but I put it out there anyway. I didn’t even promote it on social media. My website and funnel were a mess, so if anyone purchased it and tried to follow any of my links or work with me further, they either went to a dead page or a very outdated offer page. Then, something amazing happened. Someone tracked me down on Facebook and asked about the second book in the series. I didn’t even know that anyone had bought it, let alone was looking to buy the second book. It turns out that I had made 68 sales and didn’t even know it. Imagine… 68 people willing to pay me for something, and I hadn’t done any promotion, marketing, or even talked about it other than to my niece, who was very impressed that I had a book.

Somehow, 68 people managed to find me anyway. I can guarantee that these people are my fractal line. I mean, I didn’t make it easy for them to find me. I had no follow-up offers other than the promise of a second book in the series. But, I entered into writing it by following my authority. When I want to maximize it, I will use my authority to make decisions about how to promote it strategically. The energy that wants to express itself will flow naturally if I don’t interfere.

Mechanics of Energy, Money, and Business

It’simpossibletowrite a book like this without talking about money. It is how we keep score. The number is mostly arbitrary, but the whole point of a business is to bring in money through the value your service provides. Many spiritual entrepreneurs are weird about money. Weird about charging for their service, weird about charging enough, weird about sales and marketing. You create all these “shoulds” about how it works and make it hard for the universe to bring it to you. Money is simple. It follows value.

One common thought pattern is that time creates money. It is understandable how some people may think that they are paid for their time, especially if you come from punch clocks and timesheets. You are paid for the value you create during that time; just showing up and passing the time isn’t enough. When we adopt the belief system that money is from value, not time, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities for the entrepreneur.

I can hear all the coaches arguing that time is still a factor because they offer packages with a certain number of individual or group coaching hours. I challenge you to start thinking about your sessions in terms of the value you provide to customers instead of them paying for your time. When creating and setting prices for your offers, remember this golden rule: Money follows value, not time. If you’re stuck in thinking time makes money, it will limit the amount of money that can flow to you.
