42 Years

42 years, I’m going home,

42 years, for doing nothing wrong,

42 years, their unlocking the door,

42 years, for being unsure,

I’ve been sitting as an innocent,

A victim of the guilt they would not relent,

3 walls, a steel door and polished floors,

Keys on a belt and batons drawn,

A man in the right place,

A man with the wrong face,

A man in white but lived in black,

A routine given by a set of rules,

No way out and all too lose,

For 42 years, a number on my breast,

In all these years, I could never rest,

The spears of pain aching in my mind,

No chance of a family,

No hereditary line,

For 42 years, living in a prison cell,

In all of these years,

Couldn’t escape the seeds of hell,

No chance of freedom,

42 years, has come 42 years too late,
