Excerpt:

The demands made on Billy were modest enough: he was to take care of the yard, empty the swimming pool every so often, go on errands, wash the cars, and drive either the man of the house or his wife when one of them wanted to be driven, which wasn't often, since they both knew how to drive. The house was one of those lavish spreads in the hills of Hollywood, overlooking the city, and Billy's own room had a large window through which at night he could look on the glittering lights below. He had good food to eat, a reasonable salary, a lot of free time to read, as he loved to do, and all in all, he had no complaints. It would do while he built up his bank account and even thought of going on to a college career.

The house belonged to one Andrew Hawkins, a gross man, huge and triple-chinned, in his fifties and into his fourth marriage, while his wife, Angie, was cute, young, pert, vivacious, and terribly neglected. Some people said Hawkins had taken her to wife and stuck her away in the house (for he refused to let her work) much as one will buy an expensive jewel and then stick it away in some safe. He just wanted to show he could get such an attractive woman, they would say, and once having stuck her in his home, he seemed to take little further interest in her, aside from the most ordinary. When some would say it'd be more accurate to say he had bought this attractive woman, Hawkins would only grin broadly and say, "Yer damn right I'm rich enough to buy a beautiful woman," for he was under no illusions that Angie had been physically attracted to him, and took pride where others thought he would feel some chagrin, that is, in having attracted this woman by his money.

CHAPTER ONE

She grabbed at his head, almost convulsively, pressed. it close to her, grasped his hair and eagerly pushed his head downward, while she pulled herself upward, and Billy found himself kissing her bare skin lower until he felt the graze of...

And this is what was in store for inexperienced Billy when he decided to leave his native small town and relocate in a more sophisticated metropolis.

* * *

Some people might scoff that there could be such an innocent young man, virtually without experience in the delights of women in this era of the sexual revolution. But that would be to argue that if many or most are turning on to sex at an earlier age, then all are. It would, in fact, be only a demonstration that they spoke when they didn't know, for Billy Wood did exist and into his nineteenth year, he had never once tasted the full pleasures of a woman's body.

It wasn't exactly that he was religious, though there was that. It was that his parents were good-hearted, unpretentious people who ran a combination gas station and food store at a small crossroads out in the California desert. They weren't religious fanatics by any means, but considered weekly church attendance as a foregone conclusion, to be broken only by something approaching the dimensions of an earthquake, and Billy had never in his years been moved to argue with them.

It was also partly that Billy went to a relatively small high school out in the desert, far from big-city influences. This doesn't mean that there were no fast livers at his high school, boys and even girls who could have taught some adults about sex and related matters, as there are in any high school. But they were by no means dominant there. So Billy never felt that pressure from his friends to prove himself with a woman, had never felt that anxiety common to many inexperienced young men, that there was something lacking in him if he didn't get a girl in bed every week, or at least once, for heaven's sake.

And not the least reason for Billy's virginal state was Kathy Sue. She was the girl next door, not literally, but he had known her since they were children. She was a year younger, and at first they had played together as children. Then as they entered high school, or as Billy did, for he was a year ahead, they had begun seeing each other on Friday and Saturday nights, until some time in there, it was understood that they were "going together."

Billy didn't mind this understanding at all. Kathy Sue was a bright-eyed, alert and happy girl, not selfish and demanding, as he had often heard of girls being. She was furthermore, developing into a young lady of delicately feminine lines and grace, indeed, one whose dark-haired, dark-eyed, pert looks promised that she would be nothing short of a beauty.

Of course, this in itself is no guarantee that Billy would retain his innocence. For not a few parents have in fact tried to break up such longstanding relationships, going steady, lest they become grandparents at too young an age. But Kathy Sue came from a family much like Billy's, and indeed, their parents were friends, which was how they had come to play together so much as children, and so she was inclined to keep their play to a minimum, that is, when they were adolescents, their sexual play.

Billy didn't mind for the reasons given. He was under no pressure from friends to prove himself, he had one of the best looking girls in the school, and in fact, he considered the modest play she did allow as quite enough, or rather, more than enough, like a gift from the heavens, so happy did it make him. On Friday and Saturday nights, or for that matter, on just about any they could get together and didn't find her parents in the living room, they would sit on the couch there, the lights., turned moderately low (but not so low as to scandalize her good parents), listening to records on the hi-fi.

Billy would slide his arms around her waist.

With strands of her wavy hair lightly brushing against his cheek, with the pressure of her thigh against his, with her hands resting on his in welcome and occasionally with her breasts resting on his forearm, it was quite enough for Billy. He asked for no greater bliss. It was indeed quite enough to make his peter stretch out to full length as soon as they cuddled up close together, and stay stretched out, tingling and sometimes insistent. Sometimes indeed, it seemed to Billy that his whole body was being knotted up in that one throbbing organ. But if he needed release, well, he could take care of that at home, himself. It wasn't something he was proud of, and in fact, he had understood it to be wrong to play with his upstanding peter until he came, but he couldn't seem to stop himself, once he had started. Furthermore, he understood it to be a mild wrong, and it was good.

So he was happy with Kathy Sue, going places with her, having it known that she was his girl, taking walks hand-in-hand, and then usually, but not always, cuddling close together on her sofa while his peter stretched out to its full length and tingled. The old roue who's knocked about with a hundred women in bed might scorn Billy's modest sexual demands, his easy satisfaction—or envy him. He might well wish he could get erect that simply and wonder if he could possibly capture something of Billy's innocence. But the funny thing is that to Billy, it was a constant source of embarrassment, the way he got erect so quickly.

It would show, would poke up his trousers, and especially if the lights weren't turned low enough, he would feel mortified. Sometimes he would hunch forward, and cross his elbow over it so she couldn't see. Sometimes, when he was lucky, she would turn away, and he could flip it up, so that instead of being along his leg, it was now up toward his belly button, and no one could see then, not unless they looked real hard. But it was always a source of embarrassment, and he envied Kathy Sue for not having anything similar to worry about. She could sit next to him and cuddle, and her body didn't change, at least not so that anyone could see.

Had Billy been a little more knowing in the ways of women, or had he been a mind-reader, he would have found out that Kathy Sue had noticed his erections almost from the beginning and liked them. She was proud of her ability to make them happen and proud of Billy's ability to have them, for they did make him fully a man. And she would have been terribly disappointed if she had found that they weren't happening anymore.

Had Billy known that, he could simply have relaxed when they got close together and let his peter expand to its natural limit without shame or embarrassment. They could, indeed, have watched it grow together, watched it make its first thrust to break through the thin cloth of his trousers. He could have let all good feeling flow through his body and out to that sensitive organ, he could have let himself be virtually lifted off the couch in the good feeling flowing to that upstanding and yearning organ, instead of trying to hide what was natural, instead of being embarrassed by an ability he should have been proud of. Still, he was happy enough.

Sometimes, of course, they would get the teeniest bit frisky, run his hands over her breasts, feel their soft, feminine plumpness in the palm of his hand for a few moments before Kathy Sue would modestly push his hands away, and Billy would sit there tense with delight, tingling and ready to burst out in a scream. But this friskiness was restricted to activities above-the waist for both of them, as if there were a mutual agreement that fooling around below the waist, even in playful friskiness, was a little too serious.

To say that Billy should not have been satisfied with this arrangement, with getting worked up to the explosion point several times a week, that he should have demanded release from her, and if not granted, then sought it from another girl, it to overlook everything that has been said.

Kathy Sue was a delightful girl, Billy had never learned all these more sophisticated arguments and demands, and most of all, he was happy with the arrangement. He was blissfully happy and thought heaven had smiled on him.

There was one flaw in the arrangement that had nothing to do with the relations between Billy and Kathy Sue. Rather, it was economic. There was simply no opportunity for Billy in that small town that he lived in. His parents, good-hearted folk that they were, didn't demand that Billy get out and earn some money. They had supported him and his younger sister with their modest store all these years, and they could continue to do so in the future. But this would in no way offer Billy enough to develop a family of his own, which naturally enough was what he expected to do with Kathy Sue.

So sadly and reluctantly, after giving the matter much thought Billy set out in the September of the year he graduated from high school to seek, not his fortune exactly, but at least a means to support a wife and family. He went to Los Angeles, where he had heard opportunity is wide open. And there he soon landed a job as a houseman and chauffeur with a wealthy real estate developer who had a young and idle wife and no children. And there Billy met up with a lot of trouble.
