PIRATES
A STORY FROM
THE SEAS
Adnan Aslam
Allen Cooper and Harry Cooper were brothers, and great fans of their Dad. Their father was a pirate of the Somalia.
The brothers shared a dream of looting a treasure. This might seem a little odd to you but the boys were really passionate about that. Allen and Harry were pirates of their house. They sometimes messed up the bed-sheet in a way that it looked like waving water. The bed-sheets were all blue. No other colour. There were two huge ships that stood near the wall of their room. The ships of course were not real. They were paper ships. The boys held the ships in their hands and acted like pirates. They often threw toys at each other and if a toy struck the paper ship of the other, the boys would shout ‘Bam!’ this was the daily routine of the boys.
Now the boys were doing their homework. They obviously went to school. After all, they were children. Their mother was standing next to the door and keeping an eye on the boys, making sure
that they take their work seriously. Allen tore a page off his notebook, crushed it up and threw it at Harry. ‘Bam!’ he shouted. ‘Gotcha’ Harry was not different. He picked up a pencil and threw it at
Allen. ‘Ha!’ he shouted ‘Got ya!’ And this led to a fight of sea between the brothers. There went a scale-bomb, and a paper missile, and oh! There was also a nuclear-pencil. All the weapons flew here and there and then entered the chief with an angry expression on her face. The battle ceased. The pirates returned back to their work. The head, that was the mother, went back to the corridor and still kept an eye on the boys.
After a while, the boys had completed their homework. The essays that the boys wrote were well written. The mother kissed each of the boys on their forehead and said ‘Now go. Do what you want to do.’
The boys walked towards the main door, talking about what they would do now. The brothers pulled open the door and ran outside. They raced to the city park where their friends were waiting.
Allen said hello to his best friend, Craig Moore. Harry said hello to his best friend, Harold Moore.
Then the brothers said hello to each other’s best friend. Harold and Craig were also brothers, two other great fans of Allen and Harry’s Dad, ‘The Great Pirate – Jake’.
‘Have you brought the things?’ asked Allen to the
Moore brothers.
‘Yes, of course.’ replied Harold. Harold zipped open his bag and hunted for the eye patches that Allen had ordered. He then pulled out his hands in which the eye patches were enclosed. He opened his palms and held them out for the other boys to pick up one eye patch for each of themselves.
The four pirates were ready. Craig had brought cardboard swords for each of the boys. The kids attacked each other and started slaying the opponent with the powerful cardboard swords. Allen and Harry were on one ship and Harold and Craig on the other. The whole park was an ocean and the boys were the pirates. The ships travelled side-by-side and the sailors fought in a fierce hand-
to-hand battle. The battle gradually came to an end with no result. The pirates lied down panting. After a while, the boys stood up and waved goodbye to each other. Allen and Harry started towards their home. The brothers were chatting about how they had defeated the Moore brothers in the last battle and how much they had improved themselves this time. The brothers were walking on and on but they didn’t reach their house. Then Allen noticed ‘Ahb... are we in the same city?’
Harry also looked around and said ‘I think the same too.’ The truth had been revealed and the brothers knew they
weren’t in the city which had their house. They were in a complete different atmosphere. There were no houses in sight. No sign of humanity.
Only pitch black darkness. The brothers were in a state of confusion.
Suddenly, a flash of light blinded the brothers. They shielded their eyes with their hands. After a while, the lights went off. The boys headed towards the spot which was producing the light. They were near the spot when they realized that it was a cave.
The boys went inside and an acrid smell greeted them. ‘Hey,’ Allen whispered, ‘do you think we should be here?’ ‘No.’ Harry replied, ‘there must be a way out.’ Both the brothers agreed on the suggestion. They ran their hands on the slimy walls of the cave but didn’t find any way out.
‘Hey!!’ A voice echoed off the walls of the cave, ‘don’t touch anything!!’ A chill ran down the backs of both the brothers. They spun around to see the face of the man. But they could only see the shadow of the man. He looked like a muscle-man who must have had a fight with a tiger, bare-handed. The brothers had already imagined how the man would look. But there’s something called preconception. When the man walked into view, the reality was uncovered.
The man was not a muscle-man. He was a tiny fellow who had an eye patch over his right eye and a pirate hat on his little head. He wore a black and red suit and had a hook in place of his right wrist and a wooden leg in place of his left foot. ‘Don’t touch anything!’ the man shouted in his tiny voice.
The brothers were controlling their laughter from bursting out. But Harry could not hold it for long. He burst into laughter and laughed until his stomach hurt.
But Allen knew he hadn’t heard the voice of this man. He stood there waiting for the real man to
come out. The little man looked here and there and finally asked Allen ‘Who are you looking for?’
Allen stood on his toes and narrowed his eyes when he realized that there was no other man.
‘Ahb... where is your boss?’
‘There’s no boss.’ The tiny man answered in his shrill voice. ‘I’m the boss!’ Harry had stopped laughing and was wiping tears off his eyes. And now it was Allen’s turn to laugh on the little man.
He laughed out loud. The man turned red with anger. He couldn’t bear so much insult. He whistled and raised his hand high.
