TAKE FROM THIS
This story shares the reality behind how progress really happens when a person chooses to embrace all of it—in all of its ups and downs, peaks and valleys, you know the drill. The pages ahead will show how I accepted this truth and perhaps have a bird's-eye view of what consistency looks like when it meets hardship. I hope all these will give you a sense of how growth looks when someone keeps showing up, regardless. As they say, "When life shuts a door, I redesign the whole house”. Better, right?
You will find specific parts that required me to absorb pressure from loss and rejection and still return the next day ready for more. I will speak about choices that demanded risk but offered returns. But, please do not think of this as grandstanding, nor a showpiece of grand gestures or viral outcomes. No. Rather, this is a lengthy collection of steps taken when dealing with varying situations, where some may even get the best of you. Through this, you will see how business, when you really mean business, can open into something so mind-blowingly great, you may even be surprised yourself.
Most importantly, this book will speak directly to those who think it takes genius to achieve excellence. It does not. It takes strong decisions followed by action that never ever stops. So, let's not waste time, shall we? Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the extraordinary life of yours truly, Manan Shaikh! Starting Where Work
Actually Begins
The journey started in 2009, right after I turned nineteen, and my first role in finance in one of the leading hotels in Dubai. That role had nothing fancy about it. I came in every day ready to handle the tasks in front of me and kept my focus, no less. Even then, I chose to treat it like something very important. I understood right away that learning different facets of operations and how people were treated would prepare me for much bigger responsibilities later on. After finance, I transitioned into operations where I developed a stronger grasp of how things functioned under pressure. I eventually moved into front desk management, where I learned how to stay ready in terms of anticipating problems before they got worse. I began seeing every guest interaction as something that could potentially contribute to one's day, whether for the better or for the worse. I kept my eyes on the details behind the scenes, watched how pressure changed people, and saw how one small failure could drag an entire team into chaos.
