Transform Yourself
I could be wrong, but I believe the best way to live is to grow. The soul contains many levels and every time you transform, you ascend another level. Since the levels of the soul are nearly infinite, our ability to transform is also infinite.
Each transformation in life resembles the proverbial caterpillar entering a cocoon to become a butterfly. When you transform yourself, you enable yourself to more fully experience life. I have found transformations to be layered as you transform yourself in one area that triggers improvement in other areas even if the areas don't seem related. That's exciting!
I most fear stagnation. I can't stand it when I'm not improving. I constantly attempt to grow as much as possible and to become as deep as possible so I can get the most out of life. Because of this, motivators like Jim Rohn stress the value of transformation.
I trust this work is not just an exercise in vanity and self-absorption. This writing process is good for my soul, but I want this work to do more. I hope to use the story of my life transformations to inspire you. Since life transformations enable you to live more deeply, you need not ever tire of life. You can keep getting the old rewards and yet through transformations, you can find new treasures.
I love change, whether small or large. Certainly, not everyone welcomes constant jet speed change like I do. This is fine; just go at your own pace. Transformations can be quick or they can be slow. The better you get at them, the more quickly rewards arrive as you speed up the process.
In each section of this work (categorized by the geographical location where I lived during that time period), I first describe my life experiences (specifically transformations) and what I have learned from them. I skipped the first 10 or so years of my life as I don't remember much about transforming myself then.
Then I offer application questions so you may consider what life lessons you can derive from my experiences to make your life better. I hope this book will be at least a little helpful and the reader will learn at least a little something.
During my time in Sioux Falls, SD, I transformed in two major ways: creativity and physical fitness.
When I was 12, I got chubby. This was the first time I decided I can not see myself as a chubby person. I wanted to do something about it. Now, of course, I was limited to just 6th grade knowledge, but I did take action. I started exercising more and I watched what I ate. I got a good start, and though later in life I would do better, I'm glad I started.
Now, society says men aren't supposed to care about their weight, but I ask why the hell not? Are obese and lazy men more masculine than fit and ambitious men?
One of my main satisfactions in life is creativity. Throughout my life, I have developed creativity in many forms. I got inspired by an unlikely source, but that's how inspiration goes.
Matt Groening's book, School is Hell, inspired me to become more creative. Bongo, a main character of the book, wrote a diary. Though the book was fiction, I thought writing a diary would be fun. So I began writing my own diary.
At first, my diary focused on feelings and reactions to school and family life from the perspective of a 6th grader. As I continued my diary into 7th and 8th grade, it became a rote journal record of the day's activities. I stopped writing this diary in 8th grade, and I didn't start a diary again for about 10 years (http://frelsun.livejournal.com). I still have these old diaries and I cherish the memories they provide.
Are you getting chubby? If so, how can you start a physical fitness regimen?
How about becoming more creative by starting a diary? You need not pressure yourself to make it good, as any writing is good. You can keep it to yourself if you like or post it online for the world to see if you prefer. Diaries are great for introspection (they help you work things out) and for memories, so could you start one today?
