Lanzarote is the second smallest of the eastern volcanic islands and impresses with 300 volcanoes, which are embedded in a uniquely fascinating, contrasting landscape.
Every Saturday, the handicraft market, the Mercado de Artesanía, is held in the village square in front of the church from 10.00 to 14.30 hours.
The market was created in 2001 to promote the sale of artisan, regional and ecological products and to offer visitors a wide choice.
At the meanwhile up to 70 different stands, you can stroll past and shop in peace.
With the multitude of products it should not be difficult to find the right present.
TIP: Combine your Saturday excursion to the market with a visit to the Museo de Arte Sacro, which is located next to the church.
Signposted and within walking distance is the Casa/ Mueso César Manrique, the last residence of the island artist. On the same road, just after the estate, you can purchase unique basketwork from the last basket weaver on the island.
By the way: At the signposted cemetery Cementerio of Haría you will find the last resting place of César Manrique.
The climate and geographical location of the island have determined the development of agriculture, which is not very varied and whose products, combined with those from the sea, have been the basis of the island's traditional cuisine.
Due to the tourism boom of the last decades, the variety of dishes has increased without losing the traditional cuisine.
The typical fishes of the island, dorado, sama and vieja are prepared in a variety of tasty variations. There is also goat and rabbit meat, served with cooked "papas arrugadas", the Canarian shriveled potatoes, with red and green mojo sauce.
The typical dishes of the island are stews - "potajes", stockfish "Sancocho" and "Ropa vieja"- a stew of meat, potatoes, vegetables and chickpeas.
The goat's cheese must also be mentioned, which is produced in many variations according to an old tradition. Finally, no good wine should be missing, which comes from the wine growing areas between Mozaga and La Geria.
Gofio", a roasted maize flour, as well as barley, millet and wheat have always been part of the staple diet of the Canarians. Gofio is nowadays used to bind stews and to make desserts.
