The smell of antiseptic filled the air. Waking with a jerk, he could still smell that damn room. These dreams always made him question who he was and were he was when he woke up. "My name is Steve! My name is Steve!" he repeated over and over till his mind cleared. He looked around to make sure he was still in the year 2233. He hadn't had these dreams in years. Trying to remember the last time he'd had them.......was..... shit 100 years ago. The only reason he was having the damn dreams again was from the other days incident. Dominic his best friend and alpha, found out Steve was part of the militant group. To save his pack's alpha's soon to be mate Remi, Steve shot Dominic. Well, Dominic, Devon and LT. They were all flesh wounds. He wasn't going to let the militant get their hands on Remi. She had come from the past in a strange kind of fog from the year 2013. She had been through a lot. From the "Disaster of 2012", lossing her husband and children, to showing up in 2233. He wasn't about to let her be a test subject. Even though the pack had done a good job keeping her secret, Dominic pissed off the wrong male. Making the male, John go rouge. John went to the authorities, who happened to be the Militant Group. John told them all about Remi and how she got there. Steve knew this because he was there when John showed up. Every thing had been going as planned. He had kept his secret for 120 years. But when the militants had tried to abduct Remi. Steve had to make sure he was the person in charge of the mission. Knowing this could put Steve in a sticky situation. He had to save his pack. This was the only way.

Even though the pack had done a good job keeping her secret, Dominic pissed off the wrong male making John, go rouge. John went to the authorities, who happened to be the Militant Group. John told them all about Remi and how she got there. Steve knew this because he was there when John showed up. Every thing had been going as planned. He had kept his secret for 120 years but when the militants had tried to abduct Remi. Steve had to make sure he was the person in charge of the mission. Knowing this could put Steve in a sticky situation. He had to save his pack. This was the only way. Remi had ended up with an open wound transfer accident with Dominic. Causing them to do an emergency wolf transformation on Remi. When Remi was in the hospital Dominic had confronted Steve. Dominic informed Steve once Remi was out of the hospital the three of them were going to have a meeting to discuss his deception. Dominic called Steve yesterday morning. The day after Remi had been released from the hospital. “We need to meet. Can you make it to Devon and Chrystal's apartment by 10 am?” “Sure Dom. I can move a couple of my appointments to be there. What's up?” He asked but knowing in his heart what the talk was going to be about. “It's time for our talk, see you later.” Dominic hung up, but Steve just looked at his phone. He wished he could go back and change things. After making the call to reschedule the meeting with his lieutenant to the next day he drove over to Devon's place. Steve knew that Dominic and Remi were living in a safe house. He hadn't been privy to the exact location which was good. Not that he would do anything to hurt them but....... He pulled up to the apartments and noticed Dominic helping Remi out of the car. They saw him and stopped on the stoop to wait for him. “Hey there Dom.” Steve said putting out his hand for Dominic to shake. “Hey.” Dom said while shaking Steve's hand. Remi kissed Steve's cheek and said "Hello". Steve held the door for them as they entered the apartment building. They went upstairs to the apartment. Devon let them in. They headed to the living room and set down. Remi and Dominic on one couch and Steve in a chair across from them. Everyone was anxious. “Tell us what happened? How did you come to be with the militants?” Remi breaking the ice asked Steve. “Boy, right to the point. She definitely was a good choice in an alpha mate Dom,” He said teasingly, trying to lighten up the feel of the room. “Yes she was, now answer her question.” Dominic demanded. Dominic's eyes were on Steve the whole time watching him with a look of disbelief. How was Steve going to explain this? Sorry Dominic. Once they figured out I was a wolf, I was sent out to the pack to turn you all over to the scientist.

Taking a deep breath Steve started. “You aren't going to like this. Remember I have been loyal to you all these years and it was me who helped push you to what you are today.” He ran his hand through his hair, let out a long sigh. “Dom, do you remember when we met? I had been thrown out of my pack. They had some stupid idea that I was going to challenge the alpha? I was what? 19 when we meet. People didn't even know we wolves existed.” This whole thing was bringing up the harsh memories from somewhere deep. Saying them out loud was going to be even worse than what actually happened. Dominic had a look of pain on his face, “Yes, but they found out about us the year after we met,” Dom said while staring past Steve, like he was in a dream. “What does this have to do with you and the Militants? The Militant didn't even exist at the time.” “But they did exist. They were who the scientist's were working for.” Steve said, cradling his head in his hands. Dom was starting to see the connection and he did not like the direction it was heading. “Go on!” Dominic demanded. “Remember the day you and I had gone into town? You had just turned 15. Your dad thought it was time you got a job.” He was looking at Dominic for some reassurance. Seeing Dominic's eyes turn cold he continued. “You were in your interview. I saw Lily! She was 18, beautiful in both wolf and human form.” He stopped. Steve had a lump in his throat. Dominic was looking at Remi. Steve asked, “Lily was never your mate you know that right?” Dominic looked hurt, Remi put her hand on Dom's thigh, he said, “I know that now, but at the time I didn't. Please continue.” “I couldn't help myself. I had to show off for her. She was attracted to me. I could feel it, smell it and I needed her. You and she were the only ones who truly accepted me.” Steve was hurting so much. This whole damn thing was his fault. “Right there in the street I changed to my wolf form. I had walked up to her and was rubbing against her leg.” As I remembered the feel of her against me, “I hadn't looked to see if anyone else was a round. I guess one of the Gaston brothers saw me. After I was done trying to impress Lily, I changed back to my human form. I went to where you were to wait for you.” His head was starting to hurt. “When you were finished you and I went home. The next day I was walking in the woods when it happened. Some one shot me with a tranquilizer. I woke up on a metal table in some sort of lab,” he hesitated. “Steve, I remember that day. You didn't come home that night or the next. You told us you felt like running the woods. Now I know why you acted so strange. I didn't believe you, you know? I knew you well enough to know something was wrong.” Dominic hesitated. “I do remember a smell from you. I didn't recognize it.” Dominic lost in thought said, “About a week after that was when they started to round us up like cattle. It was because of you?” Steve could see the hurt in Dom's eyes. Steve couldn't say anything he just nodded.

Chapter Two

Dominic shot to his feet! Remi held his arm to keep him from going after Steve. “If Dom hit me I would feel better,” Steve thought. Dom just said, “We'll have to finish this later, I can't be here right now!” He left the room leaving Remi just staring at Steve.
