Beschreibung

If you will be reading through the Bible, you'd easily notice that Mary, the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, would always be the perfect example of what it means to listen to the voice of God.

Her docility, purity and openness to the Word are constant qualities we Christians hope to imitate as we journey in life and mature in faith.

But this book invites us, not just to learn from Mary's example, but to also listen to her own words. In seven chapters, the Seven Words of the Blessed Virgin Mary are explained here in a very simple way for easy understanding and application in our daily lives.

They might be very few, compared to those of her Son and his disciples, but they surely form a little map which charts out for us a path of holiness and happiness.

May our Blessed Mother inspire you as you listen to her words, and inspire you to follow her Son Jesus more lovingly each day.

GENERAL INTRODUCTION

The Virgin Mary, who through the message of the angel received the Word of God in her heart and in her body and gave Life to the world, is acknowledged and honored as being truly the Mother of God and Mother of the Redeemer.

Redeemed by reason of the merits of her Son and united to Him by a close and indissoluble tie, she is endowed with the high office and dignity of being the Mother of the Son of God, for which reason she is also the beloved daughter of the Father and the temple of the Holy Spirit. Because of this gift of sublime grace, she far surpasses all creatures, both in heaven and on earth. However, because she also belongs to the offspring of Adam, she is one with all those who are to be saved. Indeed, she is "the mother of the members of Christ . . . having cooperated by charity that faithful might be born in the Church, who are members of that Head." Wherefore she is hailed as a pre-eminent and singular member of the Church, and as its type and excellent exemplar in faith and charity. The Catholic Church, taught by the Holy Spirit, honors her with filial affection and piety as a most beloved mother [Lumen Gentium 53].

Please take note that Mary basically was a creature of God. She first conceived Jesus in her heart and then in her womb. As one of God’s creations, she is also among the redeemed and the saved. Through the merits of her Son and the indissoluble unity between the Mother and the Son she has an exalted position among all created persons. This is divine grace is what has made her Most Blessed, surpassing all other creatures. In the context of ecclesiology, she is also the mother of all the faithful since her son Jesus is the Head of the Church and its members are also part of the One Body of Christ. As a member of the church, she serves as our model of faith and charity.

The Old Testament (OT), New Testaments (NT) and the Traditions all show the role of the Mother of the Savior in the history of our salvation. In the OT her role seemed obscure at first, but obviously her role unfolded gradually and progressively into such figures as the ‘Woman’. In the Protoevangelium of Gen 3:15 her role was somehow foreshadowed by God himself. In Is 7:14; (cf. Mich. 5:2-3; Mt. 1:22-23) she is prophetically spoken of in prophecy as the Virgin who will bear a Son named Emmanuel. In thisinstance, the prophet Isaiah casts more light on the nature of the Woman: she will be a virgin since the Son she will bear will be Holy.

Born through Immaculate Conception, Mary was born prepared for her role from the beginning -yet she was born human to give human basis to the Savior. Since ancient times, the Fathers of the Church have called the mother of God entirely holy and free from all stain of sin, as though fashioned by the Holy Spirit and formed as a new creature. Adorned from the very instant of her conception with the radiance of an entirely and truly unique holiness, the Virgin of Nazareth is greeted, on God's command, by an angel messenger as "full of grace". An angel from the context of function is messenger and surely a messenger is expected to deliver the message of the sender. In this case the sender was God. When the Angel Gabriel greeted Mary as ‘Full of Grace’, he was actually delivering God’s greetings to her. Mary was identified as "full of grace" indicating "she was wholly borne of God's grace".1 I1 Catechism of the Catholic Church, no 491. Mary is full of grace. The dogma of the Immaculate Conception affirms that am of the opinion that, while her name is historically Mary, in the sight of God and in the economy of our salvation her heavenly name is ‘Gratia Plena’ (Full of Grace).
