Alice Smith

BEATING ADHD SERIES (BOOK 4)

INTRODUCTION

THANK YOU FOR PURCHASING the fourth eBook in our ‘Beating ADHD’ series. This specific read will concentrate on 50 essential tips for professionals in the workplace dealing with ADHD. Being a highly qualified professional does not result in receiving promotions and reaching your true potential. You have to demonstrate the willingness to improve and show focus, which can be difficult for someone with ADHD.

This eBook will deliberate over some of the best ways of guaranteeing your career does crash and burn because of this disorder. It might seem like a problematic task, but it is conceivable to save your progression as a professional before it plummets downwards.

The tips accessible in this eBook are not ‘snap of your finger’ type solutions. You will be required to demonstrate a long-standing, devoted attitude to progress as you desire.

Let’s begin on your journey to optimizing your ADHD and becoming a fantastic employee who climbs the corporate ladder.

TIPS FOR GETTING RID OF DISTRACTIONS

TIP #1: QUIET CUBICLE/OFFICE SPACE

THE NUMBER ONE RULE for getting rid of distractions is to separate yourself from them. This will ensure the noises and people in the office don’t become a reason for you to lose focus and slip into a state of daydreaming. This happens far too often and can lead to insufficient results at work.

Always ask for a quiet place in the office and ensure you are not distracted in this new location.

TIP #2: TRY WORKING FROM HOME

Even better than finding a quiet cubicle is to work from home. There are certain careers, where it is easier to complete the work at home. Explain to your bosses and upper management how you are more productive at home.

It is often possible to get them to understand.

If it is possible, this should be a route that is considered.

TIP #3: DROWNING OFFICE NOISES IS HELPFUL

Office noises can become one of the biggest issues for someone with ADHD to deal with. If you have worked within an office setting and have ADHD, you will realize how true this is. You will often let the office noises (i.e. talking and shuffling) to get to you. Your mind will often slip away.

Get rid of these noises and just tune them out. This is another reason for ensuring you get that quiet office space.

TIP #4: LIST DOWN IDEAS ALONG THE WAY

When you are looking to do away with the distractions, you have to learn to list down ideas. This is the only way to ensure that you are still able to focus on your own accord. If you are getting withered down by distractions around you, keep a little list close to you of what can put you off.

When you have this list, you can start to make changes that will ensure this does not become a long-term issue.

TIP #5: DON’T MULTI-TASK

You have to understand multi-tasking is not something you should be looking to complete right away. Certainly, when you have progressed further and feel in control with your ADHD at work, you may make the progress to multi-tasking more frequently.

However, in the early stages of your transformation, you will have to try and focus on one task at a time.

TIP #6: LET BOSSES KNOW

This is one of the bigger mistakes that are made by individuals in the workspace. They will assume it is a massive negative to let their bosses know what is causing them problems. The bosses will never be able to understand what their employee is going through and most of them don’t have time to psychologically pick apart their employee and diagnose them.

Thus, you have to let them know. You have to ensure they understand. Don’t use it as an excuse, but use it as something they should know and leave it at that.

TIP #7: PHONE SHOULD BE KEPT AWAY

One of the biggest distractions in the modern times comes in the form of the phone. Just put it away. If you are going to have urgent calls, put it on silent. Any other time, it should be shut off and completely put away.

TIP #8: KEEP FILES IN ONE LOCATION

Don’t have the files lying all over the place. You will never be able to locate them and this is going to frustrate you in the end. You will want to find an important file, but you will forget where it is. This is frustrating and will lead to inefficient performance at work.

TIP #9: WORK PATIENTLY

This is another mistake that is made. If you are going to succumb to distractions, it shouldn’t be due to your own lack of interest in doing the work properly. You have to work patiently and learn to work around this requirement. If you race through the work, you will never get past the issues surrounding getting wooed by distractions.
