Jessie
“Damn,” I murmured quietly to myself as I walked along the dimly lit corridor. I had the feeling that I was on the wrong level. I had worked for Dexter Medical Industries (DMI) only a week and still didn’t know my way around this big building. I was told to clean level U3, or at least I thought the guy who gave me the order had said level U3. Or had it been U2?
My thoughts were interrupted by what sounded like the roar of some wild animal. Did they hold research animals here on this level? Maybe I was on the wrong level after all. I knew that DMI did a lot of research, so it was likely that they had some animals for testing. I didn’t like the idea of testing on helpless animals, but I needed this job. I had been looking for a job since February and spent all my savings merely on survival since my mom kicked me out. When I saw the ad in the newspaper that DMI was looking for a cleaner, I immediately applied for the job.I didn’t have much hope of actually getting hired, but I made it in. I couldn’t afford to be picky. So even if the idea of research animals didn’t sit well with me, I had to get over it.
Another roar echoed through the level, sending a chill down my spine. What kind of animal was that? I thought they would use guinea pigs, monkeys, or dogs for tests, but this had sounded like something much bigger. Wilder. A predator. Another chill crept over my skin. I had never heard anything like it. Not quite a cat, but not a bear either. I continued down the hallway with a really bad feeling.
I shouldn’t be here. It’s the wrong level. But the guy said U3. I am certain. I’m only supposed to clean offices. There are no offices here. Maybe around the corner? I thought, stopping at a junction.
“Left or right?” I asked myself aloud.
I decided to go right. I had only taken a few steps before I heard a low growl and the rattling of chains. Chains? I gulped. What animal was so dangerous that it needed to be chained?
This is a really bad idea, Jessie. There are no offices here. Don’t be stupid. Turn around. Get out of here! I paused for a second. I would like to know what kind of animal they’re holding here.
No! Curiosity killed the cat, remember? GET OUT!
Despite my bad feeling, I continued, setting one foot in front of the other. The corridor ahead of me was lined on both sides with barred cells. It was like walking into a prison.
I took another few steps to see if I could get a peek of what kind of creature they were keeping here. I came to a stop and stiffened. From what I could tell, only one cell was occupied. Inside was an animal secured to the wall with large chains. Except it wasn’t an animal. It was a man.
No! Not just a man. This creature was not completely human, even if it looked human at first glance. He had a big, muscular build, but when he turned his face into the light I could see large canine teeth and eyes that resembled those of a large cat. They even seemed to glow a little in the dim light.
His black hair hung in heavy waves that fell to his waist. The shape of his head was unusual. His forehead was higher than a human’s, and his skull pointed slightly in the back. The man – or the creature – had an otherworldly attraction about him. Rage and hatred were embedded in his features. Not surprising for someone who had been chained and locked up for God knows how long. I wondered why he was held here and if there were others like him.
“I’m warning you,” he suddenly said with a growl. “I will break your neck if you try to take any more blood.”
I was taken aback by the sound of his voice. He did not look like the type to make empty threats.
“I - I am not here to hurt you. I - I didn’t know...” I tried to say more, but my words would not come out.
He studied me. His nostrils flared like an animal picking up the scent of its prey. I should have been more afraid, but I could not help but be drawn to this fascinating creature. I took a step closer and saw that his eyes were an amber color with pupils that slit up the middle.
“Why are you here?” he demanded. “You are working for them, but I have never seen you down here.”
“I - I am a cleaner,” I answered, pointing to my cart with the cleaning supplies. “I came here - I - I thought that-”
“You thought that you wanted to take a look at an Alien Breed. I understand,” he said scornfully.
“Alien Breed?” I asked breathlessly.
I began to wonder what exactly DMI was doing here. Experimenting with humans? But this man wasn’t human. What was he? Alien Breed! Did that mean he was an alien? A hybrid? I shook my head.
“HUMAN!” he growled and bared his teeth. “I hate humans. You created us only to torture us. But don’t worry. The time will come when we will be free. I will find you, human! And I will break your pretty little neck!”
“I don’t understand,” I whispered. “There are more like you? How many?”
“Don’t act innocent and clueless. Did they send you to try to earn my trust? So that I would breed with you?”
“B-breed?” I stuttered, shocked.
“You should let them know that I am not that easily fooled. I will snap your neck like I did the other women they brought into my cell.”
“I - I really had no idea. I didn’t know,” I tried to explain. “Whatever it is they are doing to you here is horrible and inhumane. You must believe me that not all humans are like - like that.”
“That makes no difference!” His menacing growl startled me.
“P-please,” I stammered as he advanced forward as far as his chains allowed.
I swallowed hard. His enormous physique was intimidating enough, but his long canines made him look even more threatening. My heart hammered in my chest. His nostrils flared again, and he closed his eyes for a moment before he opened them abruptly and stared at me intensely.
“You smell good,” he said hoarsely. “They chose well. Your sweet scent - I could have fallen for it. But I didn’t.” He breathed my scent in again and growled softly. “I could imagine breeding with you first instead of killing you on the spot.”
His words did strange things to me. This man – this creature – frightened me, and I knew shouldn’t get too close to him. And yet, the things he had said triggered a different kind of tingle in my body. I couldn’t help but wonder how his muscles would feel under my palms. Or worse, what he hid under those sweatpants. They were his only clothing. Was he like a human man down there? I swallowed nervously as my gaze froze at his midsection. Oh yeah! He obviously had the equipment and he seemed very interested. I felt hot and afraid at the same time.
“My body might want you, human,” he snarled, interrupting my disturbing thoughts. “But it doesn’t mean that I don’t detest you. I would breed with you, but I would still kill you afterwards! Do you really want to die for them?”
“I - I am so sorry,” I whispered, desperately pondering what to do.
What was happening here was not right. I could not just turn my back and ignore what I had seen. I got my cell phone out and took a few pictures of the man in front of me. He growled and bared his teeth, but I wasn’t deterred. He was chained and behind bars. He could not harm me.
“I know you have no reason to trust me, but I will find a way to get you out of here. I promise!”
I turned away from the cage and hastily left the man-creature. His angry roar followed me, and I ran faster. I had to get out of here. At the end of the corridor I stopped to catch my breath and calm myself. Nobody could know that I had been here and had seen the man in the cell. I couldn’t look upset when I exited the elevator on the ground level. I had to get out of the building and give the photos to the press. I feared that DMI would try to cover things up if I went to the police. Who knew if they had the cops on their payroll? It was also possible that the government was involved in this. Most of the drugs that DMI produced were used for the military. It was more than likely that the government knew about the experiments.
The press it was. But first I had to get out without raising any suspicion. After I had calmed down a bit, I pressed the button for the elevator and waited. I startled a bit when the doors whooshed open. I took a deep breath, got in, and pushed the button for the ground level. My heart pounded as I went to Adam Wright’s office and knocked.
“Yes?” he answered from within.
I entered the office and tried my best to look ill. I was probably pale enough after the shock of seeing that man-creature. And I certainly felt weak in the stomach. No, it wasn’t that difficult to feign illness.
“Adam,” I said as my boss looked up from his files. “I am not feeling well. Can I go home?”
Adam looked at his watch.
“You only have half an hour left anyway,” he said and motioned toward the door. “Go and get some rest. Give me a call tomorrow morning if you are still sick so I can find somebody to cover for you.”
“ I will. Thank you,” I said
“Get well soon,” he said more to his paperwork than to me.
I nodded and left the office. Relieved, I closed the door behind me and hurried to the locker room to get my things.
Just get out of here, I thought, hoping nobody would notice my anxiety before I was safe in my car. I wouldn’t go home. I would go straight to the press and find a way to lay low for a while. It was possible that they would try to shut me up. My imagination came up with a lot of disturbing scenarios, and I wasn’t all that sure anymore if I should risk telling someone what I had seen.
But then I thought of that man in the cell and the others like him that might be down there. This wasn’t right. I had to do something. Sooner or later somebody would find out that I had been down there. Surely someone would see me on the cameras. They would know that I had found something out. Only by making it public did I have any chance of getting out of this in one piece.
Chapter 1
West Colony, Eden
22 December 2032 • 07:34 p.m.
Rage
“The attacks are getting more and more frequent,” Sturdy said, looking at me.
“I know,” I answered grimly. “That asshole, White, is a pussy. It’s about time we take matters into our own hands here. The humans are weak.”
“I spoke to Diamond,” Sturdy said with a grin. “She fucked a soldier, and she said that the humans are so ill-equipped that she didn’t feel a thing.”
I laughed.
“Look at their women,” I said. “They wouldn’t survive getting fucked by one of us. They are to small and fragile.”
“Umm, it does work, though,” Happy chimed in.
Sturdy and I looked at him, and Happy blushed.
“What do you mean, Happy?” Sturdy asked. “Did you do one of them?”
“So, what?” Happy replied. “It’s none of your business. I am no friend of humans, but their women are alright.”
“Who was it?” I asked, my curiosity getting the better of me.
“One of the nurses.”
“And you didn’t—I mean, she didn’t break or anything?” Sturdy asked.
“No! She liked it. We even met a few times after that.”
“You still fuck her?” I asked.
“Um, we saw each other three times,” Happy said. “But she is back on Earth. Her time here was up.”
“Wouldn’t work for me,” I said. “I’m too sexually aggressive. Even our women are not all able to cope. You have less of our DNA, Happy. Sturdy and I would hurt a human woman. Maybe even kill her. We better stick to Alien Breed women. I prefer women like Cat or Blue. They are third-generation Breeds and strong. They can handle us.”
“Yeah, I like Blue,” Sturdy agreed. “I wouldn’t mind mating with her, but she is too damn independent. She doesn’t want to be shackled down.”
“You and I both know we’re not mating material, my friend,” I said.
A sound from above made us look up into the sky.
“I didn’t know there was a shuttle coming in today,” Happy said.
“Me neither,” I agreed, following the shuttle down with my eyes.
“It’ll get dark soon,” Sturdy said. “Anybody want to join me for a quick hunt?”
“Yeah, why not,” I replied with a shrug. “What about you, Happy?” Happy shook his head.
“No,” he said. “I want to go to the shop. I need a new battery. Otherwise I’ll be sitting in the dark soon. But we can meet up in the Clubhouse later on—have a drink and maybe pick up a female.”
“I’ll come,” Sturdy answered. They both looked at me and I nodded.
“Yeah, why not?” I said. “I’ll come for a drink or two.”
The hunt was a success. We got a small Barrgo. The soldiers said that a Barrgo was similar to a small deer. Before coming here, I had only been in a military camp for a short time after my rescue from DMI, so I didn’t know much about wildlife on Earth. I couldn’t really say if the soldiers were right or not. We brought our catch into my house to skin it and divide it into three portions for Sturdy, Happy and myself. Sturdy put his share into a pack and hung it over his broad shoulder.Sturdy was one of the strongest and biggest of us, hence his name. Standing at six feet ten inches, I was one of the tallest, but Sturdy had another four inches on me. He was also broader than any of us. Compared to us, the soldiers looked like kids with weapons. Which was probably why we were only allowed to have longbows for hunting.
Roughly nine years ago, the humans brought us here. They named the planet Eden because it looked like a paradise, though it was far from it. The native people, the Jinggs, were aggressive and attacked our colony again and again. I couldn’t blame them. It was their planet after all. But what could I do? We Alien Breeds didn’t have our own planet. We were not any more at home on Earth than we were here.
“See you later,” Sturdy said and opened the door.
“Yeah, I’ll be at the Clubhouse in an hour or so,” I said.
Sturdy nodded and left. I put my share of the meat into the fridge and went to the bathroom to wash off the sweat and blood. After I showered and dressed, I sat down in my chair and turned on the TV—the government had equipped us with modern conveniences to compensate for what they did to us. In my eyes, it was a lame attempt to repair their damaged reputation.
The government was put under a lot of pressure after we got rescued. Many humans were upset about DMI’s secret experiments. But there were also a few who wanted us eliminated. There were still many humans who hated us because we were supposedly dangerous—as if we were the ones who asked for all of this. It was ruthless scientists who created and tortured us. It wasn’t like we had a say in the matter.
I switched from one channel to the next—we had twelve different TV channels here on Eden. I liked the music channel and the action movies. I came to the news channel and stopped when I saw a familiar face that awakened memories I would rather forget. A woman’s voice spoke about a team of four humans that had been sent to Eden to help us, while the screen displayed pictures of two men and two women. I stared at the TV in disbelief. That couldn’t be. My heart beat faster and I growled. What was SHE doing here? I couldn’t believe that she of all women would dare come to Eden.
Jessie
I looked around excitedly. It didn’t really look all that different from Earth. The houses were simple. This could easily be a settling in South America. The red sand under my feet wasn’t dusty—it was the rainy season, so the dirt remained settled. The rains would stop in about two months, and then it would be dry and dusty. In the dry season, the nights were cooler but there was no winter on Eden—it would never get cold here. Although it was already evening, and the sun had gone down two hours ago, it was still well over 80 degrees.
I had been working in Brazil for two years and was familiar with a climate like this. That was not the case for doctor Forster, who was huffing and puffing next to me as if he would have a heart attack any minute. I looked at him with concern. He was fifty-nine—the oldest of us. Maybe it would have been better if he had stayed on Earth.
“Are you alright, Andreas?” I enquired.
“I’m not used to the heat,” he panted. “But it’ll be okay in a minute. I am looking forward to a nice cold beer.” He turned to Sergeant Blakes. “You have beer here, I hope?”
“Yes, we have,” the young sergeant answered. “Don’t you worry, doctor. You will feel right at home. Apart from the Jinggs, this is much like South America. We have even succeeded in growing many fruits and vegetables from good old Earth here in our gardens. I have a mango tree in my garden. I have so many mangos I can give them away.”
There were four of us total to arrive today. Doctor Forster was the replacement for the old head physician. Julia Briggs was a biologist. She was here to study the local plant- and wildlife. Last was Samuel Torrentino. He was a teacher and was supposed to open a school, since some of the soldiers had a wife and kids here. I was going to work in the hospital with doctor Forster.
“What about wild animals?” Julia asked. “Do they come into the village sometimes, or do they stay in the woods?”
“We haven’t had any problems with wild animals so far,” Sergeant Blakes replied. “We have our watch dogs, and the wild animals don’t come close to the settlement. The only wildlife you will see here are insects—lots of them—birds, and some rat-like animal that is absolutely harmless.”
“I can’t wait to start working,” Julia said excitedly.
“Here we are,” Sergeant Blakes announced. “This is our Clubhouse. We all come here—soldiers as well as Alien Breeds.”
We were standing in front of a two-story building with muffled music coming from within. The sergeant opened the door and showed us in. Every head in the building turned to look at us. Inside, the music was much louder, and I barely heard anything Blakes said. I was too busy looking around anyway. As Blakes had said, there were soldiers and Breeds in this Club.
In the middle of the room was an open floor for dancing surrounded by tables, many of which were occupied. In the far corner was a bar where people sat with their drinks. Apart from the Alien Breed I encountered at DMI years ago, I had never been up close to one. Now I was surrounded by Breeds. I wondered if the man I saw at DMI was also here. There were two colonies on Eden, so there was also a chance he was in the other one.
“What did you say?” I asked Blakes, who had said something while I was off in my own thoughts.
“I said there is a free table over there,” he yelled, pointing to the other end of the room. He led us to a table next to the dance floor. Everybody went back to their own conversations.
I was excited. When I left DMI and went to the press, I hadn’t known how many Alien Breeds had been created by the scientists. I had been right about the involvement of the government, though. In the DMI building I worked in had been sixty-two men and thirty-eight women. Another facility in Mexico had housed a hundred and forty-eight men and seventy-four women. Only four years ago, another facility had been detected in Arizona. There, thirty-nine men and eight women had been freed.
“What would you like to drink?” Sergeant Blakes asked.
“What else apart from beer to they serve here?” Julia asked.
“We have wine, cider, whisky, brandy, vodka, soft drinks, and coffee,” Blakes answered.
“Do they have orange juice?” she asked. When Blakes nodded she said, “Okay, then I’ll have vodka and orange juice.”
“Me, too,” I said.
“Beer for me, please,” said Andreas.
“A beer for me, too,” Samuel chimed in.
Blakes left to get the drinks from the bar. I noticed a woman on the dance floor. She was at least six feet tall and had a body I wouldn’t achieve if I worked out ten hours a day. All Alien Breeds were muscular by default. It was in their DNA, male and female alike. I admired the way this woman moved to the music. So sensual. Sexy. Next to her I felt plain and fat. To make thing worse, that woman had the most stunning hair that fell down to her ass in shiny waves. I noticed that every Alien Breed here, male or female, was frustratingly attractive. I couldn’t help but get really hung up on it.
After the third drink I really needed to pee.
“Where are the toilets?” I asked Blakes.
“Through that door over there and down the stairs,” Blakes explained as he pointed to where I needed to go.
“And what is upstairs?” Samuel asked.
“There is a game room with pool, table football, and tables for card games. There is also a little bistro and a bar where they play music videos.”
“Pool?” Julia shrieked. “Does anybody want to play?”
“I’ll play,” I answered. “But later. Now I really have to pee.”
I got up and made my way through the tables towards the door. I noticed the stares from others in the room and felt insecure. I didn’t have as much confidence as Julia. She seemed to feel completely at ease here. I wasn’t used to having so many strangers around me. And so many sexy hunks with delicious muscles that were practically begging to be touched. I blushed at my thoughts and hurried my steps—why was that damn door so far away?
Once on the other side, I was relieved to be alone. I ran down the stairs to the basement, where the toilets were located. A female soldier was just washing her hands when I entered. She smiled at me.
“You new here?” she asked.
“Yeah,” I said. “I arrived today.”
“You will like it here,” the woman said. “My name is Cloé.”
“Jessie.”
“Cool. See you later,” Cloé said with a smile and left the bathroom.
“Okay. See you,” I said to the empty room.
When I was back on the ground level, three men came down from the first floor. All three were Alien Breeds. I froze when I noticed one of them who looked very familiar. It was him! The man I saw at DMI. His hair was shorter—now it only hung down to his broad shoulders—but I was certain it was him. How often had I dreamed about him since I gave the pictures to the press that helped free all of them? Sometimes they were bad dreams where men in white coats and surgical masks tortured him. In other dreams, he was free—and he kissed me. These kinds of dreams were more disturbing than the ones about the torture because I would always wake up aroused and with this strange longing.
He saw me and frowned. Then his face changed into a mask of pure rage. He growled, and a cold shiver went down my spine. His two companions looked at him in shock.
“YOU!” he said in disgust, and I wondered why he obviously hated me so much. I was the one who helped him and the other Breeds get freed.
Before I could react or say anything, he was pressing me to the wall. One big hand went to my throat and I looked into a pair of very angry eyes.
“Rage!” one of the other Breeds shouted. “Dammit, Rage! Let her go!”
“You!” Rage—what a fitting name—snarled.
My heart was beating a hundred miles an hour as I looked up into his amber eyes—eyes that were not human at all.
Rage
I couldn’t believe that she of all people would dare come here to Eden—this evil, lying bitch. I had suffered so much because of her. They tortured me to within an inch of death. For a moment, I had wanted to believe that she was an angel coming into the darkness of my hell. As it turned out, she was anything but. How often had I pictured putting my hands around her neck like now and snapping her fragile bones? I hated her with a burning, fiery passion. That was why I choose Rage as my name. Because thinking of HER made me so fucking angry. She may have looked like an angel with her golden curls, blue eyes, pale skin, and pink lips, but looks were deceiving. I could see the fear behind her beautiful eyes. I heard Sturdy shouting behind me, but I ignored him. I was focused on her. My time for revenge had finally come.
“Please,” she begged, her lips trembling. A tear rolled down her cheek and dropped onto my arm.
The scent of her fear tickled my nostrils. Even back in my cell, when I first saw her, I had noticed how sweet she had smelled. Despite my rage, I got hard. I didn’t want to desire her. It was wrong. She was a monster with the face of an angel and a body that could tempt any man to fall to his knees and worship her.
She was small. She only reached up to my chest. Unlike our Alien Breed females, this one was soft and round all over. I imagined how good it would feel to have her under me, and I hated myself for those thoughts. I growled at her as she tried to squirm out of my hold.
“Keep still!” I rasped and buried my face in her neck to breath in the scent of her soft skin.
“Rage!” came Happy’s irritated voice from next to me. “Let the female go. You are frightening her.”
“No!” I snarled. “Leave us alone!”
“Dammit, Rage!” Sergeant Blakes demanded as he joined us. “Let go of this woman! What is wrong with you? Have you had too much to drink?”
Jessie
I trembled uncontrollably. His hand was still around my throat, but the pressure was gone. I could feel his hot breath on my skin. His friends and Sergeant Blakes tried to get him to let me go, but he would not listen to them. I could feel his canines raking over my skin and I cried out in panic.
“That’s enough, Rage!” Sergeant Blakes shouted angrily. “If you don’t let go of her at once, I will have to arrest you! Let Doctor Colby go and get the fuck out of here. Go home and calm the fuck down! I don’t want to see your face in the Club for a week.”
“Come on, Rage,” one of his friends begged. “Let her go. She didn’t do anything. She is only a little female. She is no match for a guy like you, man. Come on. I walk you home.”
Rage growled and let go of me. His gaze penetrated me, making me nervous and excited at the same time. Then he turned around and followed his friends out. I took and deep breath and exhaled. Julia hugged me tight.
“I am so sorry, Doctor Colby,” Blakes apologized. “I have no idea what has gotten into him. He has never behaved like that before. Usually he is a friendly guy, and all Alien Breeds strongly disapprove of violence towards women.”
“It- it’s okay,” I said, still a bit shaken.
“I will personally escort you home,” Blakes said. “Come. I think it’s best to call it a night.”
Rage
“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Sturdy asked, irritated. “Why did you do that?”
“I know her.”
“Is she the one that-” Happy started, but my angry snarl shut him up.
“What are you two talking about?” Sturdy asked. He hadn’t been in the same institute as Happy and me.
I took my shirt of, showing Sturdy my back. He gasped when he saw the countless scars that ran all over my back.
“Holy shit,” he murmured. “Now I know why you never take off your shirt. But what has the female got to do with it?”
“She is the reason for those scars.”
“I don’t understand. Did she do this? Or did she command it?” Sturdy asked in disbelief.
“No, but what she did was the reason they tortured me for three days until they thought me dead. I heard her. She was standing in front of my cage and laughed that I was dead. She called me a filthy animal. But I wasn’t dead. We were rescued shortly after that, and they saved me.” My thoughts went back to that day I met her.
I heard footsteps, looked up, and there she was. She looked shaken and afraid. She seemed to be an angel, coming into my dark hell to save me. But then I remembered what she really was. HUMAN! She was one of them. She was evil.
“I’m warning you,” I said with a growl. “I will break your neck if you try to take any more blood.”
She startled. Her eyes were wide with fear.
“I - I am not here to hurt you. I - I didn’t know...” she stammered.
I looked at her, taking in every detail of her appearance. Her blonde curls, the frightened blue eyes, the creamy white skin, and the pouty pink lips. Then I took in her scent. Under that sharp smell of her fear, she smelled sweet and absolutely delicious. I wished I could bury my nose in her neck and breathe her in.
“Why are you here?” I demanded. “You work for them, but I have never seen you down here before.”
“I - I am a cleaner,” she answered, pointing to a cart with cleaning supplies. “I came here - I - I thought that-”
“You thought that you wanted to take a look at an Alien Breed. I understand,” I said scornfully.
“Alien Breed?” she asked breathlessly, as if she didn’t know.
Hypocrite! As if she could work here without knowing what an Alien Breed was. Everything they were doing here was about us. Our DNA, our blood, our skills–everything!
“HUMAN!” I growled and showed her my teeth. “I hate humans. You created us only to torture us. But don’t worry. The time will come when we will be free. I will find you, human! And I will break your pretty little neck!”
“I don’t understand,” she whispered. “There are more like you? How many?”
“Don’t act innocent and clueless. Did they send you to try to earn my trust? So that I would breed with you?”
“B-breed?” she stuttered, acting shocked. She was a damn good actress, I had to give her that.
“You should let them know that I am not that easily fooled. I will snap your neck like I did the other women they brought into my cell.”
“I - I really had no idea. I didn’t know. Whatever it is they are doing to you here is horrible and inhumane. You must believe me that not all humans are like - like that.”
“That makes no difference!” I said with a fierce growl that startled her.
“P-please,” she stammered as I advanced forward as far as my chains allowed.
She smelled even sweeter up close. I closed my eyes to focus on her enticing scent. I could feel my blood rushing south. Angry over my body’s reaction, I opened my eyes and looked at her angrily and longingly at the same time.
“You smell good,” I said hoarsely. “They chose well. Your sweet scent - I could have fallen for it. But I didn’t.” I breathed her scent in again and growled, aroused. “I could imagine breeding with you first instead of killing you on the spot.”
Her gaze wandered over me, pausing on my mid section. Her eyes widened, and I couldn’t help but feel a bit of male pride over my very large and obviously ready-to-go equipment.
“My body might want you, human,” I growled darkly. “But it doesn’t mean that I don’t detest you. I would breed with you, but I would still kill you afterwards! Do you really want to die for them?”
“I - I am so sorry,” she whispered.
She sounded so genuine that I began to doubt my earlier assessment of her. But then she took out that small device that all humans here carried with them to communicate with each other or capture images with—images of me. I snarled furiously, baring my teeth.
“I know you have no reason to trust me, but I will find a way to get you out of here. I promise!”
She glanced at me apologetically and turned around to flee. I let out an angry roar and started to throw a fit in my cell until the guards came and attacked me with tasers until I passed out.
Two days later, two physicians came with six guards to my cell. Since the attack with the tasers, I had not had anything to eat or drink. They must have thought me weak enough that six guards could handle me. Their mistake soon became very clear when I killed three of them before I went down with three hits of tranquilliser.
When I came to, I was chained up, face to the wall. A physician and two nurses came into my cell, followed by one of the most brutal guards.
“You really are a feral beast like she said,” the doctor said. “She has commanded your death, but I think it wouldn’t be right to just kill you. No! You will suffer for what you’ve done to the poor guards before I allow you to die. I always thought that you were not worth being kept alive. You are a monster, worse than the others. You even killed the fucking whores we gave you. You wouldn’t breed with your own women, but at least you didn’t kill them. But any human female—they were just not good enough for you, huh? You think you are something better? Now, that is where you are wrong. We are superior. We are your creators. You would be nothing without us.”
“I would rather die than touch any of your women,” I snarled. “And I did warn you that I would kill them, but you shoved them into my cell anyway. You delivered them to me, so who is the real monster here? You sacrificed those women in the hopes of gaining my interest so that I would make you some nice little Alien Breed babies.” I snorted.
“Gordon,” the doctor said in a cold voice. The guard came closer.
“Sir.”
“He is all yours. But I want him to die slow. Don’t kill him to fast. Let him suffer for at least two or three days. I want him to beg for his death!”
I gritted my teeth. This guard was one of the worst. Some just did their job, but this asshole enjoyed making us suffer. I tried to prepare myself for what was to come. I didn’t want to give them the satisfaction of making me scream or beg. No! I would stay strong and die quietly. It was just a shame that I would die before I could get my hands around the neck of that little blonde bitch who took my image.
“Rage? Rage, man, are you alright?” Happy’s voice came through the fog of my memories.
“Yeah,” I answered.
I hadn’t thought back to that horrible experience for a long time, but the dreaded female had brought up all those memories. Why did she have to come here, of all places? What was her game play?
Sturdy slapped my back.
“Come on, man. I think you’ve had enough for today.”
Happy and Sturdy walked me home. I opened my door and turned around to my friends.
“See you tomorrow.”
“Rage,” Sturdy said carefully. He looked at me while Happy hung his head and stared at the ground. “We all have our demons, and I totally understand, but you can’t attack a female. That’s not what we do. It isn’t right. Promise me that you will stay away from her.”
I narrowed my eyes and snarled, baring my canines. Happy startled, but Sturdy stood his ground and looked at me.
“Rage,” he warned. “You are my friend, but if you attack a female, then I will put you down. Whatever problems the two of you have are in the past. Get over it! We have plans. We want to run things here on our own, and some of the humans here are with us on that. But if one of us goes feral and attacks a human, then they will never allow us to be independent. They will consider us no more than wild beasts. We have to show them that we can be trusted. I will not stand by and let anybody ruin this for us. Not even a friend.”
“Thanks, man, for showing me where your loyalties lie,” I answered coldly. “Fuck off! I don’t need any of you!”
I turned away and went inside, slamming the door behind me. My insides were boiling. I clenched my fists and let out an angry roar. Not only was that blonde bitch responsible for my pain, now she had to come here—where I had found peace at last—and take away my friends. I could still see the look on Happy’s face. He was a sucker for females. He was horrified when I attacked that bitch. Damn fool. Anybody who thought a female couldn’t be evil and do terrible things because she was softer and weaker was a damn fool! I experienced firsthand how evil a woman could be, even if she looked like an angel.
I shook my head. What made things worse was that a part of me wanted to forget what happened and fuck her. I still had her scent in my nose. Tempting. Intoxicating. I had to get her out of my fucking head. I had to kill her to be free of her. Only then would I find peace.
I knew roughly were she lived. There were two houses I had to check out. I left and made my way through dark alleys to the first house in question. I walked from window to window, until I saw a woman sitting in a chair. It wasn’t her. It was the other woman who came with her. I knew now that my angel of death had to live in the other bungalow. I turned away and snuck up to the next house. I felt a growl in my chest but suppressed it to avoid giving myself away. My heart pounded wildly as I crept to the backside of the house. There was a light in one of the windows. I stood to the side so that I could look inside without being seen. There she was! She was sitting on the bed, crying. Her crying irritated me. Why did she cry? Maybe she regretted what she had done.
Yeah, sure, my inner voice mocked me. Now you’re starting to think like Happy. Just because she is a weak female doesn’t mean she is good or not guilty! She is probably crying because she fears for her life, and rightly so, because her executioner is already here.
I had to find a way into the house without alerting her. I didn’t want her to press the emergency button next to the bed and alert the guards.
Jessie
The incident in the clubhouse had left me in shock. I had imagined it so often—how I would meet that man from the cell at DMI. I knew that all Alien Breeds spent months in therapy after their rescue to deal with what had happened to them and to learn that not all humans were like the men and women they had known from DMI. I couldn’t understand Rage’s hate for me. Why me? I was the one who told the press what was going on so that he and the other Breeds would be freed. I risked my future and my own life for that.
Rage frightened me. He could have seriously hurt me. It took a great deal of strength for me to keep it together until I got to my bungalow. Once inside, I let loose and cried and cried. I hated myself for being so weak. Why did it affect me so much? He hated me. So what? I should have ignored him and looked forward to my new job. Everybody else was friendly and welcoming. Even the Breeds. None of them had shown me any hostility. Some seemed a bit wary at first, but later they looked at me with friendly interest. I just couldn’t understand why Rage had reacted like that.
A rustling noise startled me. I wanted to cry out, but the sound got stuck in my throat. Rage stood before me. His eyes were dark with hatred, his face cold as ice. I shivered as I gazed at his huge, muscled body and his unforgiving demeanor. Suddenly, I knew that he was here to kill me. I wanted to shout for help, but I couldn’t. I stared into his hypnotizing eyes, unable to do or say anything. We stared at each other for a very long moment. It was as if the world had stopped turning. As if we were the only ones who existed in this alternate universe.
“Why?” I asked, my voice trembling.
“Why what?” he snarled.
“Why do you hate me? What - what did I do to make you hate me so much?”
He snorted, and with lightening speed he grabbed me and hauled me up. His sinister gaze made me quiver with fear. His grip was painful. Surely, I would have just crumpled to the floor if not for his strong hold on me. My knees felt like jelly. My heart was racing so hard I feared it would explode. At least then I would be dead, and he couldn’t do anything to me.
“You really ask me what you have done? Isn’t it enough that you wanted to see me tortured and dead? No! You had to laugh at me when I was lying in my own blood.”
“What?” I looked at him in disbelief. What was he talking about? I had done no such thing. “But I - I haven’t-”
“Don’t fucking lie to me!” he hissed, and I nearly wet myself.
“I swear, Rage. I - I have done nothing of the sort. I have - I got you - It’s me who got you out. You must believe me that I...”
He growled deep in his throat. Then he pushed me onto the bed and before I knew it, he was on top of me, his weight crushing me, making it hard to breath. What did he plan to do with me? Rape me before he killed me? Tears ran over my face. His face hovered above me as he stared down at me. He was so beautiful and yet frightening at the same time. What was going on in his head? Would he kill me now?
“Please,” I whispered when his hand came around my throat. “I swear I haven’t done anything. I don’t understand.”
“Shhh,” he said, and then he pressed his mouth on mine.
Rage
I couldn’t explain it but something in me changed as I looked into her tearful eyes and heard her whispered plea. I lowered my head until our lips met. My cock came to life, my blood pounded in my ears, and I was suddenly filled with insatiable hunger and need. I couldn’t think straight anymore. Here she lay, that female I wanted to kill, but all I could think of were her soft trembling lips and her warm and soft flesh under me. And her sweet scent. It drove me mad with desire. I realized that my weight must have been crushing her, so I lifted myself up a bit. I kissed her with a passion I never experienced before. I pushed my tongue between her lips as she whimpered, tasting her sweet flavor.
Her sob penetrated the fog of my lust, and I became aware of what I was doing. I had threatened to kill her, and now I was sexually assaulting her. I would have raped her. I lifted my head and stared at her frightened face. Fuck, I nearly raped this female. What was wrong with me? She was too fragile. I would have killed her. I was too big, too wild, and too brutal during sex. It was my Alien instinct that took over during mating and not my brain. It was a miracle I had been able to stop myself at all. A little bit longer, and I would have completely lost control.
“I’m not going to hurt you,” I said hoarsely.
My dick was still painfully hard, and my head was filled with erotic images of how I would fuck her into submission. Hard, fast, and deep. Fuck! That was exactly what I couldn’t do. Not with a fragile female like her. I must have lost my mind. She wasn’t cut out for rough sex with a beast like me. I would seriously injure—if not kill—her. The thought of doing that was like a cold shower. Swearing, I jumped from the bed and stared at her. Her eyes were wide and frightened, but also a little curious.
“You have nothing to fear. I will never hurt you,” I said and fled out of the house.
Jessie
I lay frozen and stared at the door. My heart was still beating wildly. I tried to process what had happened. I was sure he had come here to kill me. But then he kissed me, and I was torn between fear and desire. That kiss wasn’t what I had dreamed of so many times. Not soft and sensual, but wild, brutal, and strangely arousing. If I hadn’t been so frightened, I might have kissed him back. But I was too shocked and confused over my contradicting emotions to do anything. I felt his arousal. He was hard and big. Scary big. But then he suddenly stopped, and I could have sworn that he was irritated. When he fled, I wanted to call him back. Why? Had I lost all sense of self-preservation? He nearly raped and killed me. I should have been glad that he came to his senses and left. Still, I found myself touching my swollen lips, wondering what would have happened if I had kissed him back. I had no clue why I was so drawn to Rage, but I couldn’t deny that I had felt that way since I saw him in that cage.
Chapter 2
West Colony, Eden
28 December 2032 • 09:15 a.m.
Rage
“Geez, you’re in a mood today,” Diamond said, giving me a friendly punch in my side. “Maybe I can make you feel better. What do you say? A night of hot sex and you will feel so much better.”
I looked at Diamond. We’d had a couple of hot nights together during the last few years, but it had never been more than just sex. We were both too independent for a serious relationship. Until now, I had been happy as it was. If I was horny, I got together with one of the willing females that were up for no-strings-attached sex. I was free to do as I pleased, no obligations to anyone. But since I nearly raped Jessie, the simple thought of touching another woman disgusted me. I gave Diamond an apologetic smile.
“I’m not in the mood,” I said lamely.
Diamond looked at me skeptically.
“You mean you don’t want sex with me, or you don’t want sex period?”
“It’s not about you, Di. I’m just not in the mood.”
“Has it something to do with a certain little doctor?” Diamond wanted to know.
I turned away, afraid Diamond would see right through me.
“Why would I want to have anything to do with that treacherous little bitch?”
“Jessie is a good doctor and a good person,” Diamond said with a frown. “What is your problem with her? I don’t get it.”
“It’s personal and none of your business, Di!”
Diamond snorted.
“I don’t understand you anymore, Rage. You have always been a decent male. You have always treated us females right, even protected us. How can you want to harm a vulnerable woman who is half your size? That is not the Rage I know—or knew, for that matter. Let me tell you something. The other females are also not happy about the incident at the clubhouse. You are going to find it hard to find a female here who will take you to bed after that. So, get used to your right hand, asshole!” She snorted. “And I even defended you when they bitched about you, but that ends here. You crossed a line, Rage.”
I growled darkly.
“I don’t need any of you!” I declared. “And I sure as fuck don’t need you to defend me!”
“I’m warning you, Rage,” she hissed. “If you so much as look at Jessie the wrong way, I will cut off your balls and stuff them down your throat! And I have all the females behind me, so don’t think this is an empty threat!”
“I don’t plan on looking at that bitch at all. Period!” I snarled. “I am happy if I don’t see her face.”
