FOREWORD

When we took the Cambridge University Musical Theatre Society

(lovingly known as CUMTS) production of SIX to Sweet Venues on

Grassmarket at the Edinburgh Fringe 2017, I had three main goals as

president of that society. Firstly, to not lose money, as we almost

always did on our Edinburgh shows. Two, to kick off an annual

CUMTS tradition of taking new student-written musical theatre

writing up the fringe. And finally, for the show not to be terrible.

It’s a huge testament to the whole of that original team that

we were able not only to achieve those goals, but also to catch

the attention of the wonderful producers who would take

the show to where it is now. I truly never expected us to go

beyond those initial aims and everything that’s happened

since then has been a total dream come true.

Looking at this score compared to the one we had back

then, not a huge amount has changed. Although ‘No Way’

and ‘I Don’t Need Your Love’ have had significant chunks re-written, the shape
