Well the apocalypse has happened now what? Whether it's the apocalypse or a major natural disaster if you can't secure the basics of survival than you're going to be dead in a matter of days. Inside this book you can find the know-how to help you to survive. But remember this: Knowledge will only take you so far. The will to live will take you the rest of the way. Learn what you can from these pages. Stay strong and never give up. Better days are ahead, you just can't lose hope.
After the worse has happened you're going to need to secure the following: Food, water, shelter and warmth. Securing them can be tricky depending on where you are. If you're in the wilderness finding food and safe drinking will be a challenge. But if you're in an urban area like Los Angeles or new York food may be the easiest to find but safe drinking water will be a challenge in itself. In urban/suburban areas you'll might get lucky in locating canned goods and bottled water but that will few and far between. Canned goods are great but for short term survival only. After all you can't make a can of tuna. They last for so long and they will be few and far between. Securing safe drinking water will be a challenge in its self. If you can't get water you know is safe to drink than you'll have to get a bit creative. First step is setting up some sort of filtration system. I recommend the way to go is a sand and charcoal filter. If you can't find one that's already made than you'll have to make your own. Making one is fairly simple.
First you'll need an fair sized container, like a milk jug with the bottom cut out, and cover one end with a piece of fabric and then fill it with different layers of sand and charcoal. The sand will filter out large objects like rocks and the charcoal will filter out smaller things like lead and e.coli. As an extra precaution any water you filter should be boiled for a few minutes to remove any remaining germs. As you wander the landscape you may come across fruit orchards will be handy. Whether it's apples, oranges or pears grap what you can. You may not eat everything you grap but you get a bargaining chip for future trades. Shelter is very important as you can, and will, die from exposer. If you're in the middle of nowhere and can't find a readymade shelter like a cabin or a cave and don't have tent on hand than you'll have to make you're. When you make your shelter keep in mind this: you'll want to be out of site. As a rule of thumb stay off any and all trails as that could give you away. A simple stick shelter can be made. To help weather proof it a bit, and camouflage it, cover it with as many leaves as you can. If you're lucky in having a tarp and rope - great.
With the rope suspend the tarp between some trees. The tarp can also help collect rain water which means water you don't have to filter and boil. As for warmth you're going to need more than the clothes on your back. Fire is properly your best bet. To make fire three things are required: Air, fuel and a spark. Air is what you don't have to worry about - it's the other two. If you're lucky in having matches or a lighter then all you need is fuel. If you don't have a lighter or matches than you'll need to improvise another way to produce a spark. One way is a good car battery and jumper cables. Properly connect one end of the jumper cable to the car battery and then carefully bring together the other end. If done correctly you'll produce the spark needed for a fire. Where you are will dictate what you can find to burn, where you can find it, and how often you can find it. If you're in the woods then you have plenty of wood to burn but if you're in an urban area than you'll have limited choices. But either way you'll also need to have a fire pit. If you don't have a fire pit than be very careful in lighting a fire as you could potentially burn down your shelter. Also be careful in not building too big a fire as a bigger fire means a bigger column of smoke which could in turn give your position away. Once you've got these things secured than it's important that you scout the area you're in, especially if you're in an urban area.
