I am truly sorry that you cute little rodents once again have to serve as a metaphor for the almost collective stupidity of humanity. But when we think of lemmings, we all think of those little animals throwing themselves off cliffs. And we humans are racing towards that very precipice with our eyes wide open, or, as my wife likes to say, we are already in free fall. And that is exactly what this book is about. About the waste lemmings, dog owner lemmings, consumer and app lemmings, and many more.

Reduction (!?!) – ever heard of it?
No? It doesn't occur in our everyday language either. Neither in politics, nor in trade and commerce, nor in the media, and certainly not in our own lives!
Instead of working towards reducing CO₂ emissions, we are now being led to believe that we can still achieve the 1.5 degree global warming target if we ‘suck’ the harmful CO₂ out of the air and then inject it somewhere – into empty gas storage facilities in the sea or into old underground mines and shafts.
Despite all efforts – for example, by the young Dutchman Boyan Slat – we are still unable to remove the huge amounts of plastic from the sea and are far from ensuring that no more plastic ends up there. We still don't have a nuclear waste repository, but we are already planning storage sites for CO²! And our climate is not the only issue where we are collectively behaving incorrectly.
Then I received an email from my car-sharing provider saying that two cars were now available in my small town. I was really happy about that, because I wasn't the only one who had been asking for it. In the meantime, I had discovered another provider that was a little more expensive and only had one car available, but that was already a big help.
As already mentioned, the time price was more expensive (approx. €1.50, and the mileage rates were also higher) and so I wanted to cancel a previously booked appointment – which was supposed to be in two months – and book with the cheaper provider. However, I could not select my city and therefore could not book a car. Probably not everything had been set up in the system yet, so I wrote an email describing my problem.
