Introduction

A man of God is not God but a God-Sent Man.

– Victor Ehighaleh

And the woman said unto Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth. 1 Kings 17:24

The truth is, a man of God lives a life inside a Life. In fact, his day-to-day work and existence does not depend on his plans but on providence. Oftentimes, he finds himself on a never-planned road. In fact, he frequently commutes using vehicles that are beyond his expectations. His life has indeed gone beyond being a product of personal permutations – It’s a life of sacrifice and obedience to the directions and promptings of God.

In fact, typical man of God goes about with the scent of divine presence that announces itself where ever he goes. As it were, he truly does not require an introduction before being identified by the physical or spiritual realm. Incidentally, his association with God has given him a high percentage of God’s Nature. This exclusive empowerment is solely responsible for his appearance and disposition in terms of how people rate or perceive him.

However, it is good to note that any “man of God” who must be announced before being recognized as a man of God is highly deficient in God’s presence. In fact, you do not need to announce power – it announces itself to whoever comes in contact with it. Therefore, the privilege of being a man of God confers on the candidate, a tremendous amount of power and recognition that is usually beyond the physical body.

In the Old Testament era, the man of God, being a vessel unto honor explicitly takes instructions from the Almighty God in the performance of daily chores. His job entails absolute obedience to the will of God.

The ability to clearly hear God speak becomes the air he daily breathes. In fact, every true man of God lives a life of a superior and holy being. This life is totally enmeshed in the Nature of God. Yes! He lives a life directed and given to him by the Almighty God.

Oftentimes, the man of God lacks the knowledge of where he would spend the night because his life is subject to God’s impulse. This is the major reason why anyone who puts on the toga of – man of God, is expected to lose his life for the sake of the work and glory of God.

Apostle Paul rightly said in Galatians 2:20:

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

Apostle Paul recognizes the fact that he has to lose his life and earthly desires as a prerequisite to gaining the honor bequeathed on him by Christ. Being called a vessel unto honor therefore presupposes that he has been called into a special and holy life that daily requires him to live a life of sacrifice for the sake of the gospel of Christ.

Usually, the life of a man of God is not a pleasurable one. In fact, oftentimes, he does not know where his next meal would come from. In fact, Apostle Paul rightly gave a clear picture and summary of what the life of a man of God entails (Galatians 1:15-18).

“But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace, To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood: Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.”
