It happened due to the work of one remarkable person named W. Chan Kim. He is a professor and chief of the department for the strategic management of Insead business school. He’s also a coauthor of an excellent book named «Blue Ocean Strategy».

This book deals with explosive growth and high profit of companies, which can generate productive business ideas creating demand in the new market («blue ocean»). This is where competitors are virtually absent, instead of competing with plenty of competitors at marginally profitable markets.

The gist of the book is simple, as with everything genius: find a niche without worthy adversaries. This is the key to success in work.

If you can’t dance better than Michael Jackson, paint pictures. Can’t paint — sing, can’t sing — sell books. In order to find your niche, one has to realize what conditions will bring you to victory.

It’s a bit more complicated; there’s a number of conditions under which your path to success will be much shorter. Many entrepreneurs achieved fantastic results because they chose a market in one of the following states:

— New market — Spring

An absolutely new branch of business and trade of service which previously didn’t exist. A power bank can be mentioned as an instance. Portable accumulators: everybody having a phone needs them.

— Growing market — Summer

A business which was provided with benefits for a particular period or project scaling. In other words, a service expansion to a new region. For example, take cars in the age of Henry Ford: he made his product so available that 8 out of 10 cars in the US were of the Ford brand.

— Market after a crisis — Autumn

A market after sanctions, prohibitions, restrictions, and crisis. The simplest way to earn at it is to use the concept of a work which has already had success. This is similar to the prohibition law: alcohol is permitted-prohibited-permitted. Just repeat what was done before and everything will be okay.

There is also winter, but we aren’t interested in it. Winter markets are those which we need to avoid, such as markets with the presence of Intel, J&J, Amazon, and other big fishes. Markets which are virtually monopolized. To work there, you’ll have to work like a horse. Your profit will be low unless you make a revolution in the market.

The rules are simple: select one of the three markets and avoid the fourth one. The more incidences with the described conditions, the simpler goal achievement. It remains to put the puzzle of the blue ocean and appropriate season together.

I read the book of W. Chan Kim in January 2018 and, after a year, I found a niche matching the whole three positive conditions. I browsed the daily mailout of online magazines — one Swedish blogger was talking about a project which is dedicated to the most interesting product as of today.

Based on the generally-known facts, he provided a combination I had been looking for, for almost a year. On the one hand, cannabis is spring, summer, and autumn mixed together. On the other hand, legalization — which took place in Canada — is the blue ocean. Together, they provide a fantastic freedom for the implementation of business ideas. You’ll know how to make money from it upon having read this book, everything in detail and with examples. Let’s go!

Before proceeding in more detail to the topic of profit in this sphere,

I want you to realize that profit in such a business is in no way related to the illegal turnover of marijuana. Absolutely all the ways of income that I can see, and which the market currently opens to us, are «white» business.

Canada is a member of G7. It is one of the world’s advanced countries and, the fact that a state of such a level treats cannabis in a legitimate manner, gives us the green light in plenty of directions.

First of all, marijuana is allowed for the purposes of recreation. In other words, it is legal to smoke it for pleasure’s sake and is available for sale in Canada and a number of America’s states.

Secondly, growing and selling cannabis is not a privilege of state — as in the Netherlands — but the possession of entrepreneurs. It means that you can participate in IPO, be a shareholder, and independently start growing cannabis all in all — but let’s discuss that later.

Thirdly, marijuana can be technical. These are plant varieties which don’t contain THC, a psychoactive drug, but they’re very unpretentious in growing: only the sun will be enough. These varieties can be used in dozens of branches of industry and are very cheap in comparison to the original raw materials — analogs, which are used nowadays.

In all, we have a completely new market which is at the early stage of its development. The sectors of industry, pharmacy, and entertainment are available to us. Each of these directions requires particular knowledge and a particular amount of finances for successful growth. We also have a sphere for investments — an option of buying a company’s shares, which only requires money. I propose to consider these fields one after another. Each of them has great prospects and deserves special focus.

Markets and branches

So, let’s start with the beginning. I want you to understand why this market is prospective. We’ll start from the domain for work with technical hemp: a product without THC. Currently, technical hemp is cultivated or used in the industry by the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bhutan, United Kingdom, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Egypt, Israel, India, Italy, Ireland, Spain, Canada, Cyprus, China, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, USA, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, Finland, France, Montenegro, Chile, Switzerland, Sweden, Estonia, South Africa, and Japan.

These are 43 countries out of the existing 195. If we cast aside the countries which are deserts by their nature or located in areas of frozen earth, it appears that technical hemp has already been grown by half of the world. However, up until now, you likely haven’t heard about it. Can’t you guess why?

The largest producers in the continents are China, France, Canada, Egypt, Australia, and Chile.

In the American continent, the main crop acres are concentrated in Canada, but the processing of the hemp-growing products is carried out in the USA as well. The third American leader in the production and processing of hemp is Chile.

In summary, we can assert that wherever you live, within 2 hours of traveling by air, you can reach a country where fields sown with technical hemp already exist. This means that you can easily borrow the necessary equipment or find a sales market. Nobody produces goods or services that are not in demand; that’s absurd. And, if there is demand, there’s the possibility to make money. This is another law of economy.

Half of the countries dealing with technical hemp growing are located in Europe. What can we say? Huzzah!

In the European Union, to date, 21 countries are engaged in the cultivation of hemp. The first place, having left the other producers far behind, is taken by France (15 000 ha). This is explained by the fact that this branch of agriculture hasn’t been prohibited by the country since 1961 — a very farsighted solution. Estonia, the Netherlands, Italy, and Lithuania take the second place in the volume of hemp sown. Portugal rounds out the row of hemp growers, which so far sows about 5 ha.

In the aggregate, these territories create a virtually limitless potential for development and profiting in businesses related to hemp. There was no technological breakthrough in this field for one simple reason: this wasn’t fashionable. Did you hear that, annually, approximately 150x more is spent on the development and improvement of the teeth whitening procedure than on medicine that increases life expectancy? If the situation were been reversed, we would already be able to live forever. This is the same situation: there were no investors and now, thanks to Canada, there are.

The list of products

The list of products which can be produced from hemp is tremendous.

Currently, more than 200 enterprises in the whole world examine, grow, and process hemp. The demand for hemp articles contributed to the increase in crop acreages in Europe and the number of enterprises producing various goods of hemp. It has already been mentioned that the leaders in the production of hemp products are: China, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, and countries of Asia and Latin America.

In the present, an enormous number of various items and materials are produced from hemp. They come into use in almost all spheres of activities of the human being; the properties of hemp are versatile and, day-by-day, they reveal more and more new applications. I’d like to remind you that these products are from the hemp without THC, which means they aren’t toxic. The fact that the material is entirely natural serves as the perfect characteristic for a potential buyer. I don’t know whether you’re aware that the label «100% natural» produces an increase in demand, but nowadays being natural is fashionable.
