Beschreibung

In the year Y2.050K, the Energia spacecraft begins its voyage to Proxima Centauri.
Its architects create the Scientists for Peace Society. Soon after, deceptively menacing messages from alien civilizations mysteriously appear on the clouds. As humanity progresses and regresses in leaps and bounds, the urgency of the alien threats becomes very real and the SPS begins to play a leading role in world affairs.
After two major disasters cause over a billion deaths, democracy is once again relegated to history as humans seek to secure the survival of the species on Earth and beyond.
Will the survival instinct beat politicians’ vanity and people’s propensity to self-destruct?

From the publisher's Advance Information Sheet:
The book offers a very unique twist to an age-old question: can humanity survive its infancy and mature or will our violent nature take over?
Dimis Michaelides’ text creates a dystopic utopia which masterfully blends two incompatible ideas: peace through repression and violence! It also raises a multitude of serious and pertinent questions on science and superstition, politics and society, democracy and autocracy, philosophy and ethics, nationalism and internationalism. It is set in the not-too-distant future, beginning in the year 2050 and ending in 2200, the title of the book.
Umit Inatci’s artwork is not only beautiful to look at but it has an almost magical allure that draws you in with forms, colors and symbols, looking for hidden messages! As publishers, our stated goal is to bring out unique and thought-provoking fiction. Y2.200K delivers all that and more!
This book appeals to a wide readership, from sci-fi enthusiasts to art-lovers the world over. Its content will resonate with people with convictions on science, religion, politics and ethics. In particular, it will resonate with people concerned about world peace and how this might be achieved. The short and visual nature of the book will also appeal to younger readers.

Bios

for Marios

Based on an idea in the back of my mind plus a whim, I decided to pen a short novel, a narrative with minimal characters set in the future. I imagined it immersed in relevant, meaningful yet abstract images, which is when I spoke to Umit, a Cypriot pacifist.

Susan Michaelides and Aileen O’Donoghue reviewed the logic and the language of the chronicle. Panos Siozos and Panos Economou reviewed the science and the speculation. Between them they brought some things from the world of pure fantasy somewhat closer to the realm of reason.

I thank them very much.

Dimis Michaelides

When Dimis, a Cypriot pacifist, asked me to design a science fiction book and illustrate his narrative in an abstract yet identifiable visual language, I took up the challenge. I used details from my paintings as allegoric and hermetical abstract symbolic narration to combine with the metaphysical imagination of Dimis’ prose.

Y2.050K

Energia takes off.Historians and futurists agreed that Y2.050K was a landmark year in transport and communications. All transport on land, air and sea, private and public, had become fully autonomous and all people were now able to communicate with one another instantaneously using their own languages.

Energia exited the solar system in Y2.052K and fired its main engines redirecting the vessel to Proxima Centauri. The whole journey was expected to take nearly 140 years travelling at an average velocity of 9,000 km/sec or 3% of the speed of light.

It was the fastest object ever made by humans and the first spaceship to another solar system. Launched from Vostochny, a thriving new city inhabited by people of all nationalities, professions and ways of life. All united by the most ambitious space project ever in a global partnership of space organizations.

They had prepared thirty years for this launch which sparked controversy from the start: why go interstellar before even scratching the surface of our own solar system? The likelihood of finding a human-friendly habitat is higher over there, said the sages. Just to satisfy a few individual egos, the skeptics retorted.

This decade marked a period of many local wars fought with modern military and space technology. Fought with solids, liquids and gases and with that timeless resource – men and women on the ground. No nuclear arms.

The Energia project partners kept their hands clean. They were not directly involved in the wars. Their countries sent no field troops, only weapons, intelligence and training to different belligerent parties fighting in a classic bloody cocktail of clashing economic interests and ideologies.
