Materials Required:

 

Columbia-Minerva Knitting Worsted (4 oz. skein)

Color 1--3 Skeins

Color 2--4 Skeins

Color 3--4 Skeins

 

--OR--

 

Columbia-Minerva Nantuk 4 Ply Knitting Yarn (knitting Worsted Size--2 or 4 oz. skein)

Color 1--12 Oz

Color 2--16 Oz.

Color 3--16 Oz.

 

Knitting Needles: 1 Pair "Boye" Size 9--10 inch

 

Gauge: 4 Sts. to 1 inch

 

Each Square measures 3 1/2 inches

 

1 "Boye" Aluminum Crochet Hook "G" (Size 5)

 

To Make A Small Square: With Color 1 cast on 2 Sts.

 

Row 1--K 1, increase 1 St. in next St.

 

Row 2--P, increasing 1 St. in last St.

 

Row 3--K, increasing 1 St. in last St.

 

Rows 4 through 9--Repeat Rows 2 and 3 three times (11 Sts. on needle), break Color 1 strand and join Color 2.

 

Rows 10 through 17--Repeat Rows 2 and 3 four times (19 Sts. on needle).

 

Rows 18 and 19--Same as Row 2 (21 Sts. on needle).

 

Row 20--K across to last 2 Sts., K 2 together, break Color 2 strand, join Color 3.

 

Row 21--K, across to last 2 Sts., K 2 together.

 

Row 22--P across to last 2 Sts., P 2 together.

 

Row 23 and 24--Same as Rows 21 and 22 (16 Sts. on needle), drop Color 3 strand and join Color 1.

 

Rows 25 and 26--Same as Rows 21 and 22, drop Color 1 strand and pick up Color 3.

 

Rows 27 through 30--Repeat Rows 21 and 22 two times (10 Sts. on needle), drop Color 3 strand and pick up Color 1 strand.

 

Rows 31 and 32--Same as Rows 21 and 22, break Color 1 strand and pick up Color 3.

 

Rows 33 through 36--Repeat Rows 21 and 22 two times (4 Sts. on needle).

 

Rows 37--K 2 together 2 times.

 

Bind off 2 remaining Sts.

 

Make 192 Squares. Block each to measure 4 inches square.

 

To Make Large Squares: Sew 4 small Squares together, having Color 1 at center (Striped Pattern will be at outer corners). Make 48 Large Squares.

 

To Join Large Squares: Sew Large Squares together, matching Stripes, having 6 Squares in width and 8 Squares in length.

 

Border: With Crochet Hook and Color 3 work 1 row of slip St. around entire Afghan, working 1 slip St., Ch 1, 1 slip St. in each corner to keep work flat. Work 4 more rows of slip St. in this manner, working in back loop of Sts.

Size 50" x 72"

 

Materials Required — AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED, ARTICLE W11

36 - 1 ¼ oz. Skeins Flame.

10 - 1 ¼ oz. Skeins Amber.

1 Pair Bone or Plastic Knitting Needles No. 4 or No. 5.

1 Bone or Plastic Crochet Hook No. 4.

 

Center Stripe — With Flame, cast on 67 sts and K 1 row.

 

1st Row of Pattern — Purl across row. Purl every uneven row.
