CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION TO AFRICAN CICHLID

African cichlids are members of the cichlid family of freshwater fish. African cichlids are available in a range of vivid colors and are among the least expensive colorful freshwater fish available for purchase.

African cichlids are a bigger species of African, Asian, and South American freshwater fish. Even if you don't have a saltwater tank, you may maintain a wide variety of colors with these fish, making them a popular choice among aquarists. Each species has a temperament that varies somewhat and is tolerant to confinement.

African cichlids are a very active genus of fish, making them a popular aquarium attraction. Although they need particular care, many species are suitable for new aquarium owners because to their resilience.

This species comes in a variety of colors and patterns, however it might take up to a year for them to acquire their full color. The kind of care a person receives may have an effect on their coloring (we'll discuss this in further detail later down).

When putting African cichlids in an aquarium together, the aggressiveness of each species must be considered. They are often more aggressive than other typical tropical fish.

There are several verified species of African cichlids in the wild, but considerably fewer are accessible as pets. Almost majority of the species seen in home aquariums are native to Lake Malawi in East Africa. A few number also originate from Lake Tanganyika and Lake Victoria.

Some species of African cichlids are not appropriate for beginning fishkeepers due to their aggression and territoriality, despite their attractive appearance.
