The Amazon shopping experience has greatly improved thanks to Amazon Dash. Amazon Dash is not just about the devices but also the great service that goes with them in helping you get the best out of your shopping. 

The Service

Amazon Dash is about the service of customer replenishment. It is about enabling a customer to easily re-order products already purchased without necessarily going online to key in the required information. The Dash service enables this to be done remotely through the dash devices without the need to immediately go online until necessary.

To be able to deliver fast, efficient and effective replenishment service at the most minimal effort, Amazon came with two greatly innovative gadgets;

Amazon Dash Wand

Amazon Dash Wand is Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled gadget designed to enable you to quickly capture information about the product that you want to order. It has barcode reader functionality and the voice command functionality. Thus, you can either scan barcodes to capture the information of the product that you want to order or you can simply ‘talk’ to it about what you want by issuing a voice command (i.e. uttering the name of the product that you want to order).

Amazon button

There are two types of Amazon Dash Buttons;

Physical

Virtual

Physical Amazon Dash Button

A physical Amazon Dash Button is a small Wi-Fi gadget about two-thirds the length of an adult’s thumb. There are several buttons each representing a category of items you need to buy.

Virtual Amazon Dash Button

This is a button attached to Amazon shopping page whereby you click on it (instead of pressing a physical button) and it makes an order for you.

So, the main difference between physical and virtual is “pressing” and “clicking”.

Key similarities between Amazon Wand and Amazon Button

Both have Wi-Fi

Both are linked to Amazon app installed in your phone

Both are used for ordering (re-ordering products)

You don’t have to open the app on your phone for them to work as they remotely access your app

Key differences between Amazon Wand and Amazon Button

Amazon Wand has Bluetooth capabilities

Unlike Amazon wand, Amazon button doesn’t have a barcode scanner

Unlike Amazon Wand which you can use to order millions of grocery items on Amazon, each category of items on Amazon requires a specific button to order (re-order)

With Amazon Button, you have to create a shopping list of items online for each category represented by the button.
