Beschreibung

Available in a variety of styles, shapes and colors, quartz wall clocks make an affordable time-keeping option for any room in the home or office. Like any mechanical operation, however, they aren't exempt from the occasional need for repair, which can easily be done with a little knowledge and patience.

The first and easiest problem to fix is restoring the clock's battery power, which is done by removing the battery from the back of the clock and replacing it with a fresh one. If the battery contact points – those little metal tabs inside the terminal – are corroded, you can usually clean them by first removing any loose corrosion with a moist paper towel before using a small bit of sandpaper to exfoliate any additional material from the contacts.

In this guide “clock repair for beginners”, I will be teaching you all you need to know about repair and maintenance of different kinds of wrist watches from quartz, electrical, mechanical and antique clocks.

CHAPTER ONE

How to Repair a Non-Working Quartz Clock

Quartz wall clocks are a cheap time-keeping alternative that can be found in a wide range of designs, forms, and colors, making them suitable for use in any home or workplace. However, they, like any mechanical process, sometimes need maintenance, which is simple to do with the right tools, skills, and time investment.

How to Repair a Quartz Wall Clock

How Easy Is It to Make the Most Basic Repairs?

The clock's battery power may be restored by removing the old battery from the clock's rear and replacing it with a new one. Those little metal tabs within the terminal of a battery may corrode over time, but they can typically be cleaned by wiping away the loose corrosion with a damp paper towel and then using a little piece of sandpaper to exfoliate the rest of the material.

There are a variety of reasons why a clock's hands may require changing over time. Your clock's hands may be touching if it's operating slowly; adjusting the time will solve the problem. The central hex nut may be too tight, so giving it a quarter turn of slack may help the hands move more freely. The hands may be made less likely to become caught at 6 o'clock by pressing them down firmly against the shaft on which they rest. It's possible for clock hands to become permanently bent, so if you notice that they're sticking or seem to be pushing up against the plastic clock face, you can straighten them out with your fingers or a pair of pliers.
