Materials Required—

 

AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" RUG YARN, Article 44

3-80 yd. Skeins Blue.

1-80 yd. Skein White.

Bone Crochet Hook #6.

1 Pr. Inner Soles.

 

Directions are given for a medium size (sizes 5-6-7). Small size (sizes 3-4) and large size (size 8-9) are given in parenthesis.

 

SOLES—With Blue, ch 24 (20-28) and work 2 s d c in 2nd st from hook, 2 s d c in next st, 1 s d c in each of the next 19 sts of ch (15-23) 2 s d c in next st, 3 s d c in last st. Working on other side of ch, work 2 s d c in next st, 1 s d c in each of the next 19 sts, (15-23) 2 s d c in next st, 1 s d c in same space with 1st 2 sts, join.

 

2nd Row—Ch 2 (counts as 1 s d c) s d c in same space, 2 s d c in each of the next 2 s d c, 1 s d c in each of the next 4 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 15 sts, (11-19) 1 s d c in each of the next 2 sts, 2 s d c in each of the next 5 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 2 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 15 sts, (11-19) 1 s d c in each of the next 4 sts, 2 s d c in each remaining st, join.

 

3rd Row—Ch 3, d c in same space, 2 d c in each of the next 4 sts, 1 d c in next st, 1 s d c in each of the next 9 sts, (7-11) 1 s c in each of the next 13 sts (11-15) * 2 s c in next st, 1 s c in next st, repeat from *, * 1 s c in next st, 2 s c in next st, repeat from *, 1 s c in each of the next 13 sts (11-15), 1 s d c in each of the next 9 sts (7-11) 1 d c in next st, 2 d c in each remaining st, join.

 

4th Row—Ch 3, d c in same space, 2 d c in each of the next 6 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 4 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 25 sts, (21-29) 2 s c in each of the next 6 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 25 sts (21-29) 1 s d c in each of the next 4 sts, 2 d c in each remaining st, join.

 

5th Row—Ch 1, s c in each st, join, break yarn. Work another sole in same manner.

 

UPPER SECTION—With right side of sole toward you attach White in center of heel and work 1 s c over each st by inserting needle under entire st, join, break yarn.

 

2nd Row—With wrong side of sole toward you attach Blue and working in back loop of st only throughout, work 1 s c in each st, join, ch 1 to turn each row.

 

3rd Row—1 s c in each s c, decreasing 3 sts at center of toe, (spaced evenly).

 

4th Row—Work in s c, decreasing 3 sts at heel and 2 sts on each side of toe (spaced evenly).

 

5th Row—Decrease 1 st at each side of instep and 1 st at center of toe.

 

6th Row—Decrease 3 sts at center of toe.

 

7th Row—Decrease 2 sts on each side of toe.

 

8th Row—Decrease 1 st at heel and 2 sts on each side of toe.

 

9th Row—Work even, break yarn.

 

VAMP—Ch 8, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 5 sts of ch, 4 s c in last st, working on opposite side of ch, 1 s c in each st, ch 1, turn.

 

2nd Row—Working in back loop of st only throughout, work 1 s c in each of the 1st 7 s c, 2 s c in each of the next 2 s c, 1 s c in each remaining st, turn.

 

3rd Row—Skip 1 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in next s c, 2 s c in each of the next 2 s c, 1 s c in next s c, 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, turn.

 

4th Row—Skip 1 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 2 s c, 2 s c in each of the next 2 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 2 s c, 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, turn.

7th Row—Skip 1st s c, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, 2 s c in each of the next 2 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, turn.

 

8th Row—Decrease 1 s c at the beginning and end of row, break yarn.

 

TRIM—Attach White in 3rd st of 2nd ridge from beginning of vamp, * ch 2, 2 d c in same space, skip 1 st, sl st in next st (shell) repeat from * across row, break yarn.

 

Work a row of shells in last row of vamp but skip 2 sts in¬stead of one. Sew lower section of vamp between 1st row of shells to upper section. Work a row of shells around free edge of upper section skipping 2 sts instead of one. Sew re¬mainder of vamp in position. Place inner sole between soles of slippers and overcast together.
