Rafael R. Pilsczek, born in 1968, always looks into the lives of individual people in his works and draws conclusions about life itself. His painterly oeuvre impresses by sending out hundreds of human emotional signals. Decade on Fire invites us to think for ourselves, to rejoice as well as to be afraid in times that have become dark, in which nothing is as certain as it was long before. The diversity of his oeuvre is both frightening and powerful, as well as an indication that his personality intertwines writing, filmmaking and painting, and that it is in painting that his innermost views of the world are most radically represented. Without looking at guidelines, rules and norms, a unique collection has been created that interweaves the moods of the decade from 2013 to 2023.

Mixed Works
In his first creative phase, Rafael R. Pilsczek showed himself to be a master of expressive abstraction, skillfully alternating between raw, powerful imagery and clear, narrative aesthetics. His works address the deep emotional abysses of human existence and the longing for peace and familiarity. In this field of tension, Pilsczek radically varies his painting techniques and reveals the complexity of his creative process, which is reflected in the unique expressive power of his works.
Mom or old ladyOil on canvas.
In his impressive series of works in the style of abstract expressionism, Rafael R. Pilsczek reveals the deep emotions and inner conflicts of human existence through a powerful and dynamic color palette. Dominant hues merge with chaotic lines and drips to create shadowy faces, typography and vivid patterns. The unpolished aesthetic of these works reflects an expressive, unbridled artistic practice that is both intense and introspective. Pilsczek‘s free brushwork and overlapping layers of color create a deep emotional resonance that invites the viewer to explore their own interpretations and meanings.
This series is a powerful testament to Pilsczek‘s ability to convey the complexity of human emotion in an abstract and visually stunning way.
