Chapter 1: All you need to know about Dump Cakes
Not many people would want to put the words “dump” and “cake” together. Cake – one of the most favorite desserts of people is not an easy thing to cook. Not even seasoned cooks can master the art of baking a cake. This is the reason why despite such an unflattering name, dump cakes are so popular and people rave about it. The cake is extremely easy to cook, requiring bare effort from the side of the cook. In fact, all you are supposed to do is to collect the ingredients and actually “dump” them in a baking dish before letting the oven do its work.
Recipes for dump cakes can be numerous, depending upon the various permutations and combinations one can apply over some popular ingredients that go into dump cakes. The basic method of cooking is the same.
First of all it involves some fruit as its basic flavor, pineapple and cherries being the most popular ones. Other flavours can be black forest and peaches. The fruit is poured as the bottom most layer in the baking dish. Next, a layer of either white or yellow (dry) cake mix is added over it.
There might be some variations according to the recipes, though the typical pattern is butter as the third and topmost layer. Once baked, the dump cake has a buttery top crust below which lies a layer of sweet fruits. One might sprinkle the top with nuts. It can also be served with whipped cream or ice cream of your favorite flavors.
