1. You are who you are!

You are who you are because that’s who you are meant to be! Many of us have trouble accepting who we are and spend a great deal of energy trying to become someone else. The more we try to be different the harder our task.

Whether it is our skin colour, race, physical features or anything that indicates we are not part of the “normal crowd” gives us a challenge in how to deal with it. The world is full of discrimination and ridicule and provides you with a choice about how to conduct your life knowing that the ideal way of life is camouflaged with all these difficult obstacles.

You can never be happy until you confront the truth – you are who you are! Accept this and be thankful and appreciative of who you are. An important part of your wellbeing is about accepting you as you. This doesn’t mean you can’t keep improving and growing. You must build upon a solid foundation. That foundation is simply about accepting and believing you are a wonderful human being and everything else is value add.

In an Eastern approach to life it is said that every human being is made up of two parts, namely the spiritual being and the ego. The spiritual being is often challenged by the ego. The spiritual being wants you to be true to yourself whereas the ego is always telling you that you are not good enough until you achieve certain external things such as having more money, a bigger house or a promotion and so forth.

The ego makes you compare yourself to others and makes you doubt your own achievements to date. The ego will cause you to compromise your values in the name of ‘saving face’. Your spiritual being provides the true fulfilment and allows you to live your own life in alignment with your values. Take a leap of faith today and trust that you are good enough.

An experience:

An accountant used to complain when he was young that his clients never took him seriously because he wasn’t worldly and experienced. As such he tried a number of strategies including growing a beard to look older.

As he grew older he admitted the amount of energy he used to project his professional experience made him exhausted at times. He somehow came to the realization that it did not matter what other people thought about him. He just learned to focus on being straightforward and as simple as he could with his communication.

He also noticed that what made a difference was taking a genuine interest in all aspects of his clients’ life and just being himself. Taking an interest also provided new diversity and fulfilment for him. The more comfortable he became with himself the easier his career seemed to perform.

Key points:

Accept unconditionally who you are;Know that you are who you are due to your total life experiences to date (good and bad);Be true to yourself and to others;Relax into your own agenda not someone else’s; andEvery person is unique and you have your own unique set of strengths.

2. You were born a champion

At birth you were a perfectly unique individual capable of anything. As you grew, your seemingly unlimited potential was influenced by all those responsible for your upbringing and education. Unfortunately, while your parents and teachers had nothing but the best of intentions for you, many of their influences contributed to you forming limitations on your capacity to live a life with no limits.

Now that we live in a world highly supported by technology, we are constantly bombarded with advertising, media opinion, reality television shows and social media. These distractions often dominate the use of our time. It takes a disciplined individual to break the bonds of distractions and influence of others to start being who you really are.

While respecting others, stop worrying about what others think. Make time to enjoy being true to yourself. Allow the champion locked within you to re-emerge by the way you live and treat others. Think of yourself as a champion in your life and you will become that person. You have always been that champion but have let yourself become a victim to the views of other people. Adopt a positive mental attitude and in spite of any setbacks in your life you have a choice about how to think about yourself and behave for the rest of your life.
