Introduction
Thank you for downloading this book and I hope that I am successfully in addressing your woes and worries about training your dog.
I have been a dog lover for the longest time now. I’ve shared my living space with dogs from the day I was born and that established a bond of a very special kind with their species and made me intuitive towards dog behavior.
My mother often said I should write about dog behavior as I’d always decode what their silent stares conveyed, or what a certain kind of bark meant. I ALWAYS seem to know what dogs mean to say, while literally not saying anything at all! – did that make sense to you? Don’t worry if it didn’t. I assure you at the end of this eBook you will.
Honestly, it doesn’t require a special talent. All it takes is an understanding that gradually helps build an eternal bond between a pet and their pet parent, the rest follows.
It is a relationship like no other. Of course, it takes some work during the initial stages, especially if you have never had a dog. But, if you accept a dog as an individual – who has a personality and a temperament, just as you would naturally accept one in a human, half the job is done.
So let us embark on this amazing journey of being a parent to one of the most loyal friend you would ever have – a dog!
Dogs have always been man’s best friend. Dogs, like children have certain needs and understanding those needs makes it easier having them around, or being around them. Dogs make excellent companions, and their affection is beyond all bounds. Sadly, man’s best friends often land up on death rows in shelters because certain parents find it challenging to live with them.
I often come across people who gift their loved ones a puppy. It sure is a thoughtful gesture, BUT are you absolutely certain that the person is prepared to take on a responsibility of that kind. Raising dogs is similar to raising children.
Following a routine is extremely important with puppies or even an older dog in a new home. Since puppies have been taken away from their mothers at an early stage they often seek your attention, assuming you to be their mother. Play with them gently and quietly. Do not indulge them with too much attention and activity. (You do not want a hyper active pet now, do you?)
Puppies sleep a lot. Designate an area in the house with a comfortable puppy bed and encourage them to sleep in it. This way you will form a habit where the puppy doesn’t jump into your bed. I personally have no trouble with a dog sleeping on the same bed but the reason this habit needs to be instilled is because puppies litter just about anywhere until thoroughly trained and its best for them to do so in their designated spot than in your bed.
