PHARESE

In order to host our esteemed gu-ests in Ezine in the best way, we have worked for all year, researched, visi-ted, photographed, mapped, desig-ned and prepared the Secret Trea-sure Ezine Guide.

When I put forward the idea of using qr codes in the guide, my team thou-ght that we could prepare all these places on the computer right away at the desk and did not say much. However, as a meticulous academi-cian, when I told them that we were going to prepare all the qr codes by going from place to place, they were all surprised but no one objected. We worked four seasons. While everyo-ne was swimming at the beach, they were quite surprised to see us with cameras, tablets and computers. We got very tired, sweated blood while wandering around the historical ci-ties where even the archaeologists have not touched.

However, when the piece in your

hands came out, we saw that it was worth it all. I think you will like it as well. I would like to thank dynamic Mr. Ali İkram Tuna, the District Governor of Ezine, and Mayor Haluk Babaoğlu for their support in the emergence of this work. Ezine is where my childho-od was taken place, my home. I’ve always seen the world as my home-town in this huge universe, but one shouldn’t forget his own home, the place where his childhood was taken place. I am really happy to be able to do this work for Ezine and to leave a piece for future generations.

I would also like to thank İbrahim Ünlü, the great master of our beau-tiful Turkish, who assumed the edi-torship of the book and pandered to my whims, my young assistants Er-han Akyel, Giray Işık, Ramazan Çelik and Osman Furkan Çoban. I am de-eply grateful to my father Yahya Avcı and my mother Emine Avcı who wel-comed me and my team to their ho-mes especially when we were tired

WHERE ELSE CAN BE SEEN?

Assos

It is believed to have been named Pedassos during the legendary Trojan Wars, and has been preferred as a settlement since prehistory. It is in a unique place worth seeing with its location next to the village of Behram and across the island of Lesbos. With the Temple of Athena at the summit, the mosque from the period of the Ottoman Sultan Murad I (1370-1389), and a theater with its unique view on the hillside overlooking the island of Lesbos, it is one of the places where you should spend at least a day to see.

12

13

Apollon Smintheus

It is located in Gülpınar village of Ayvacık. Built in the 2nd century B.C, the temple, which is an important work of Hellenistic architecture, measures 41.65 x 23.20 meters and has 8 columns on its short facades and 14 columns on its long facades. Trojan War was engraved on the frieze and columns of the temple. The epic of Iliad has not been engraved in such detail in any other temple.

14

Another city that must be seen after Ezine is Bayramiç. It is a stopping point with the famous Turkish poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy’s house, Ottoman bridge, mosque and mansion.

Located on the north-northwest slopes of Kazdağı after Bayramiç, Ayazma is a must-see place with its promenade, natural waters, fresh air and snow-fed trouts.

Bozcaaada, where you can reach by taking a ferry from Geyikli Gestas Pier of Ezine by your car or on foot, by about 45-50 minute sailing, is a must-see island for history, sea and nature enthusiasts with its historical castle, Latin castle, Byzantine-Roman ruins and bays each of which is more beatiful than others.

To go from Ezine to Gökçeada, take the ferry departing from the Çanakkale Merkez Gestaş pier, it will take you to Eceabat. If you don’t have your own car, you can go to Kabatepe Gestaş pier from Eceabat by public minibuses. Then you can reach Gökçeada by ferry from Kabatepe Gestaş pier. It is possible to reach Gökçeada with a single ticket you buy in Çanakkale city center. I re-commend you to book the ferry in advance to avoid any problems on your round-trip. Gökçeada is the richest island of the Aegean Sea and even the Mediterranean Sea in terms of the springs it has. The domant volcanoes on the island have made the land of the island fertile. In this respect, the dishes made with the meat and plants of the island are very delicious. You can en-joy the sea in the beautiful bays all over the island. While you can taste fresh seafood at the fish restaurants spreaded all over the island, you can see dif-ferent cultures, old streets and houses in eight Greek villages on the island. Ancient ruins from Roman-Byzantine period, King’s bay and mud bath on the south of the island is also a must-see.

While still in Ezine, you can visit the legendary cave of Paris, ancient route, and Sarıkız and his father, which is the subject of legends, by going to the summit of Kazdağı either from Edremit with your vehicle or tour vehicles or by riding a motorcycle embarking on an advnture from Bayramiç. At an altitude of 1767 meters, you can be chilled to the bone on the hottest day of the year, and view the the magnificent Aegean landscape from the top of the legen-dary Mount Ida. You can relish Aegean, the blue and greenery.
