The "Folklore Dedication" is a brief seminar on folklore singing. You will become acquainted with a technique of breathing and singing of Bulgarian folklore songs. The characteristics of all folklore regions, traditional dresses and instruments, measures and rhythms, padded with reach pictorial material. There are 21 folklore songs here, 11 of which are Ivanka Ivanova's, all include the lyrics, each of them is notated, some are in two voices with attached links where you can hear the original sound of each song. Alle sind mit Texte und Noten zum Nachsingen ausgestattet, einige von denen sind Zweistimmig mit beigefugten Links auf denen Sie den Original Klang jedes Liedes horen konnen Songtexte sind in bulgarischer Sprache Original in lateinischen Buchstaben geschrieben, und in Englisch ubersetzt. ------------------------------------- ---- Фолклорно посвещение" е кратък семинар по народно пеене. Introduction

He author of the book is the folklore singer Ivanka Ivanova-Pitrek from Pazardjik. She has gained over 1000 authentic songs from her home land, which she is going to present in a series of several books. The first of them is “Folklore dedication”. It is also the first step by which the professional singer is going to reveal the original beauty of the Bulgarian folklore and the folklore singing.

The book is for anyone, who loves listening and performing Bulgarian folklore songs. It is also a peculiar guide on folklore performing technique, because Ivanka Ivanova gives short indications about how to control the Bulgarian folklore singing: breathing, articulation, modeling of the sound…

The tempted and inquisitive readers will become acquainted with the features of the Bulgarian folklore regions, traditional folklore instruments and dresses. The will get to know the measures and rhythms of the folk songs: common measures and uncommon measures. And all of this in photos and notated songs of each folk region: some of them are with first and second voice, so that everyone can rehearse and perform it in two voices- alone with friends or with small choir. A single link is attached to each song in order you can hear the original sound.

The lyrics are presented in original Bulgarian language with Latin letters and English transcription and they are also translated in English.

A Technique for Breathing and Singing of Bulgarian Folklore Songs

The first and the most important condition for good singing is the technique for breathing. Women breathe principally with breasts and men- with the diaphragm. When the singer breathes with breasts he can`t finish the phrase. That`s why it`s better for him to learn to breathe with his diaphragm, which is especially important for the phrasinga phrase of the lyrics or the melody is performed with one taking of breath which is exhaled slowly. It is followed by rapidly taking of breath as much as it is necessary for the next phrase to be performed. The influence on the audience depends largely on the ability of the singer to phrase. Of course, the diction, which is connected with the extraction of the tone, is also important.

Here are some traditional practical exercises for beginners:

Lie down comfortably on the sofa and put a heavy thing on your belly, for example a thick book. Inhale deeply through the nose: the breath must raise the book. Then exhale slowly slowly as you try not to move your breasts but only the belly. While you are exhaling lisp: “sssssssssss”. Watch on the clock the seconds for this exercise as you don`t forget that the controlled duration of the exhalation guarantees endurance in the singing of long phrases. When you exhale you can exercise the vocals “I, E, A, O, U” or the combination “Mi, Me, Ma, Mo, Mu” in order to improve the diction. Take out the breath through the throat and at the same time open wide your mouth in order to achieve correct vocalization. It`s good for you to be in front of the mirror to scrutinize the opening of the mouth in each single vocal.
