An indentation of the dialogue means the characters are in the hide.

Blank space on the page means a pause of equivalent length.

( / ) means the next speech begins at that point.

( – ) means an interruption.

(…) at the end of a speech means it trails off. On its own, it indicates a pressure, expectation or desire to speak.

A speech with no written dialogue indicates a character deliberately remaining silent.

This ebook was created before the end of rehearsals and so may differ slightly from the play as performed.

Scene One

CARLY and ASHLEY are looking around the house.

JOHN is showing DAVID the hides.

CARLYWorktops are probably granite that’s what they use. You think I can take pictures gonna show Fiona she’ll be so pissed off. She asked me for the number so she can get in on it and I was like no way, not stealing my thunder.

Soft-close drawers.

Induction hob, you know what that is, you have to use special pans but they give you those. You need the loo or something?

ASHLEYWhat?

CARLYDistracted.

ASHLEYJust looking.

JOHNYou excited?

DAVIDYes.

JOHNTo see it?

DAVIDAbsolutely.

JOHNYou don’t look excited.

CARLYIt’s a lot to take in I know.

ASHLEYYeah.

JOHNIs it what you expected?

DAVIDI suppose… I had an idea from the description but…

JOHN…but?

What?

Any comments? Thoughts?

DAVIDNo. No.

JOHNIs there anything you think we should improve?

DAVIDYou mean… No. It all looks good.

JOHNYou’d be happy with it like this then?

DAVIDIs it finished?

JOHNYou tell me.

CARLYHot tub.

DAVIDYeah. Looks good. I like it.

CARLYYou know what you’re supposed to do in a hot tub?

ASHLEYYou mean –

CARLYYeah.

ASHLEYBut wouldn’t they be…

CARLYNot all the time. No.

ASHLEYOkay.

JOHNWouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea, stuck in here all day.

DAVIDI’ve done worse jobs.

JOHNWhat?

DAVID…you know. Cleaning up, slopping out.

JOHNCleaning? This isn’t like that.

DAVIDI know

JOHNThis is skilled, we need people who are highly trained.

DAVIDI am

JOHNProfessional. David, you’re here because we thought you had the relevant skills.

DAVIDI do.

JOHNYou do?

DAVIDI have the experience. The skills. Look. I really want this. I think I’d do it well.

DAVID looks around. Trying to find something to say.
